Sorry to hear about your friend Ashe, that's some crazy shit. @ Jack hate to hear you got mugged. As far as the no snitching thing goes whenever someone says something of that nature around me I tell them to eat a shitty ass.

The Like/Hate Thread - Jack - 04-14-2009

xD!! I learn a new, awesome insult every day.

Snitching is ratting on a friend/associate for self-preservation purposes. Filing a police report because you got mugged on the way to school at 8 AM wouldn't be snitching. I'll most likely do it, but I'm just jaded is all.

I like that I can justify buying a new iPod =D.

EDIT: Where the hell was this girl driving 55? =/

None of that post was serious. I couldn't give a fuck less if it was reported or you fought back or w/e. Long as he got out with his life. So you could say I'm something, not stupid though.

If Jack rps tonight I'll rp Smile It'll be random but it'll be a rp.

I hate that a girl I went to school with (though was in no way close to) lost control of her car on a narrow treelined road and died from it during the rain. She was going faster than the road wants (though its stupidly marked 55 when it should be 45 due to all the deer and how curved it is, and its not even enforced) while passing someone, overcorrected after coming back and hitting the side of the road, boom, hit a tree 5 feet off the ground. She was 23 and had just begun a teaching career while also announcing her engagement. My bus driver was actually her dad.

Someone in the online articles comments said "Another life lost for a stupid reason" though and everyone of her friends and people that know her are getting up in arms about him being a rude dick that needs to keep his comments to themselves. Their argument is that "She couldn't have done anything to prevent this, God decided it was her time." That road is a double solid, why was she passing? I understand you have to speed up to pass, but that road isn't exactly the most forgiving one, especially to pass on. What if another car was coming? I have to agree that she died for a stupid reason. I'm not saying she's a stupid person, but she made a mistake, and unfortunately it cost her.

Wrong. It's not the speed limit's fault. She should have been driving within her ability. She drove beyond it and died for it. It sucks but it changes nothing.

The Like/Hate Thread - Waffuru - 04-15-2009

It's an excessive speed for the road. Just because you can drive faster doesn't mean that you should. That's pretty stupid mang.

The Like/Hate Thread - Sage - 04-15-2009

Which is why you can be ticketed for doing speed limit in inclement weather. Sometimes speed limit is too fucking fast.

The Like/Hate Thread - Ashe - 04-15-2009

Sage: I agree with you. That doesn't change that people routinely will drive faster than their ability if there is no outside limitation (like a speed sign or irate passenger) that will prevent them from doing so. Otherwise, there would be no need for speed limits anywhere (well, outside of "Please don't run down the small children at play.")

The Like/Hate Thread - Jack - 04-15-2009

55? Was she on the express way?

The Like/Hate Thread - Ashe - 04-15-2009

No.

Its effectively used as one though. Its one of those small country roads that connect Appling and Lincolnton (two fairly rural areas, one of which I previously lived in). The road is bordered by trees (with constant threat of deer due to this) and weaves a bit in a wave.

It IS a 55 zone. It should BE a 45 zone.

Cops don't even watch that road, as they'd obviously prefer to go to the more frequently traveled areas (due to lower populations, just because this is a regular drive for a lot of people doesn't mean its more frequent than, say, Lincolnton to Augusta, which would be a higher priority.) Throw in some youthful inexperience AND inclement weather (as was the case) and you've got a single car wreck over a single and unfortunate mistake.

Like I said, I understand the anger and need for her closest family and friends to want to lash out at anyone who feels this could have been avoided or says it was a stupid decision (as I'm seeing them do citing disrespect, which, the comment that caused this uproar did not refer at all to the girl herself as being stupid, but rather the mistake and the cause of death). However, they are directing their anger at the wrong people, when they are really angry with the circumstances.

Similarly, when another of my good friends got impatient and went out driving with his unlicensed underage friends to play paintball rather than wait for their mom to get home to drive them, and ended up with said friend's head being smashed against a tree. Some people blamed the driver and ostracized him (who already felt like shit for losing his absolute best friend and obviously also blamed himself), some blamed the bad roads (as I'd like to point that I'm intentionally not doing, rather I am noting an additional point about the road), some got angry at anyone who felt that they made a stupid decision. But the bottom line was, they made a stupid decision. Its no more that driver's fault, regardless of what he felt, than it was my friend and each one of his other friend's faults. They chose to get into a vehicle (most of them without seat belts) with someone they knew should not be driving. That was stupid, and this lead to one of their deaths, and the other that actually had a seatbelt has to this day a hug gash scar across his chest (but he's alive.) The other two are similarly alive, but living the results. It sucks, it shouldn't have happened, I wish it didn't, but they shouldn't have done it. And yeah, we all have done stupid things and some of us have lived through them, some haven't. Its like rolling dice. Sometimes you can roll that 2-20 for 22 years in a row, even if you are making the same repeated mistake (which builds false confidence that you can handle it and it won't kill you) but all it takes is that single one critical fail roll of 1 and... "Turn in your character sheet."

EDIT: Regarding her, I even heard someone blaming the other car for being at fault as they "should have slowed down further to let her over". The other car had nothing to do with this. It didn't speed up and keep her from coming over, it didn't push her off the road, it didn't do anything. It's driver watched in horror as someone attempted to pass him as normal on the road under weathery conditions, then watched them come back over a bit too far and hitting the dirt side, freaking out, and overcorrecting so that they went back off the other side and into a tree. And now they are reading about it having killed the girl, and that is if they didn't stop and see her dead right there. And I'm sure that they too are blaming themselves as if they should have done anything different. They'll always remember this. And yet someone has the audacity to blame the other vehicle for what was stated to be a "single car accident" for a reason.

The Like/Hate Thread - Sage - 04-15-2009

Whoa, whoa. I wasn't trying to ostracize her or anything.

She made a mistake. I've made tons of mistakes, and it's actually really surprising I haven't had to pay with my life yet since I've done things far worse than what killed this girl. I'm just saying - don't blame the road.

Had I died when I went through that guardrail a few years back I wouldn't have wanted someone to blame the road. I was speeding and it was icy as fuck. That's my fault. Just as an example.

I hadn't meant to say "oh well she's stupid" or something like that. I really apologize if that's how it came across.

Oh, that wasn't actually pointed at you in any tiny way.

The Like/Hate Thread - Sage - 04-15-2009

Yeah, okay. I just wanted to make sure.

The Like/Hate Thread - Jack - 04-15-2009

Yeah, it should definitely be 45 if she died trying to make a turn. No residential street here goes above like 25-30 miles per hour, and the expressway's limit is 55-60. I've been in cars that can make the turn on the expressway at full speed, they are pretty wide turns. That's aweful.

The Like/Hate Thread - Vad - 04-15-2009

My school has a near hair pin turn at 35 MPH passing the parking lot entrance. Beyond better judgment I hit that thing at the full 35 and just lean into it.

But then again, I'm driving a Corolla which has a pretty low center of gravity. Considering the car comes up to the bottom of my ribcage when I stand next to it.
