Help, Computer Nerds! - Vegeta Jr - 01-05-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Pui PuiActually it does. By ordering all data together in a "right" order, your hard-disk will be able to access a file faster then if it has to grab a file from 5 different places scattered over the disk. It wont turn your pc into highspeed modus, but it's something. Help, Computer Nerds! - Captain Silver - 01-05-2007 Quote:But, in some cases, it can make your computer slightly faster. But you can't even notice it. I know it does, thats why I said it. =X Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-05-2007 Actually, I noticed a difference. Then again, over 50% of my hard drive was fragmented... Help, Computer Nerds! - Vegeta Jr - 01-05-2007 You contradicted yourself ![]() Plus, in extreme cases it can speed up your pc considerably. Especially if you have a slow rpm hd. Help, Computer Nerds! - Captain Silver - 01-05-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Vegeta Jr I know I did, I was to lazy to erase the first part of when I said it xD On my PC, I did it, and ive had that for about 4 years, and it made no difference. I've done it on my laptop, pointless. But I did >.> Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-05-2007 Other than reloading windows (which I really don't want to do) anything else I can do to help? Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 Ok, there are a few things I want to mention here. 1) VJ, while Symantec makes norton they are two diffrent programs. Symantec gives you a few more options while Norton is just an anti virus program. 2) Talking about defraging and making it faster it all depends on when the last time you did a defrag. If its been a year or so you will notice, if its been a month, not so much. 3) Spop you have what is called Rouge spyware. A company creates it then markets a product that will get rid of it for you. Don't fall for it. Search google or something for the name of it and then find out how to get rid of it. Another good program is Spyware Doctor...its one of the best. Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-05-2007 I know that much about it. It just sucks cuz it's fugging hard to get rid of. -_- I don't know what the name of it is though, and several different sites seem to be part of it, though they all share very similar IPs. Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 Get S&D and do a scan. complete it and do another scan. The thing that keeps popping up will be your rouge spyware. post it on the board and we can find a solution. Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-05-2007 S&D = Spyware Doctor? Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 That would work but I meant Spyware Search and Destroy. Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-05-2007 Bleh? v.v Oh well. I put the scanning version of Spyware Doctor on, so it should work. I be a bit too poor for the pay versions of stuff. I need to check my Army email and see if they have anything on there for free. Help, Computer Nerds! - Krillin - 01-05-2007 Hey, Kid Buu, is that shit free? Help, Computer Nerds! - Vegeta Jr - 01-05-2007 Quote:Originally posted by MurasakiPlease get your facts straight if you're so sure.. http://www.symantec.com/product/index.jsp There is no product called Symantec. Symantec is the company's name. Some of their products indeed carry the company's name before the productname, but it's never the name of the product. Run the free internet Kasperky virusscanner if youre unsure if you got a virus or rootkit on your pc. (http://usa.kaspersky.com/services/free-virus-scanner.php) Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 Yes but while he just said Symantec I assumed he meant Symantec Anti Virus, not Norton. Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-06-2007 So, the military has free spyware/adware software as well as free antivirus. Pretty kickass. So I downloaded something called E-Trust PestPatrol. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it any good? Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-06-2007 Double post. So sue me. Anyway, I scanned my computer. I quarantined stuff. But something keeps coming up and doesn't seem to able to be quarantined. PuperHM: Win32/Puper.HM [VET], Trojan.Emcodec [Symantec], Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Zlob.awq [Kaspersky], W32/Zlob.gen68 [NORMAN] Any advice? Please? Edit: Also it found this, which doesn't want to go away either. Nuvens: Claims to be: intcodec-v6.107 and pornomagpass_ver1.107 when instead installs a coolection of pests. Help, Computer Nerds! - Warako - 01-06-2007 Generall when I have a problem with my computer such as a nasty attack on it or whatnot, I use HiJackThis programs, and post the log on this forum: Geeks To Go They'll look it over and walk you through step by step on how to remove all nasties. Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-06-2007 So... I figured it out. Finally. While my software couldn't quarantine the bitch, I could type in the file names into my system search. The thing came with an uninstall program, which seems to have fixed the problem. -_- Atleast I hope it did. Thanks to everyone for the help! Help, Computer Nerds! - Krillin - 01-06-2007 What kind of SpyWare would supply its own Uninstall program? O.o |
