Band - Celipa - 05-06-2007 "She's got a smile that is seems to me, reminds me of childhood memories," Oh, Guns 'N Roses... Band - Bojack - 05-06-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Celipa Holy fuck, that solo was kickass. Other than that and 'Welcome To The Jungle' though, I'm not a huge fan. Band - Celipa - 05-06-2007 You don't like 'Paradise City'? Band - Bojack - 05-06-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Celipa Oh. Yeah man, that's actually probably my favorite one. Forgot about that. EDIT: And they did a 'Live and Let Die' cover. GnR fuxing rawks actually. Band - Celipa - 05-06-2007 xD Quiet Riot? Bon Jovi? Poison? Any other 80's hair-bands you like? I enjoy all of the above. Band - Bojack - 05-06-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Celipa I haven't heard a lot of that stuff. Other than KISS (Detroit Rock City ftw), I never really got into anything glam/hair band. I love 80's music though, but more stuff like Prince, Rick James, Billy Idol, Ozzy, AC/DC of course... I'm sure I will remember more later. I'm more inclined to like songs from that era than actual bands. I LOVED that GTA: Vice City soundtrack though. So yeah, all the shit on there as well. Band - Pigero - 05-06-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Celipa Lol....that's the kind of music my mom listens to =/ Only Bon Jovi song I like is "Livin' on a Prayer." John Bon Jovi actually owns my city's AFL team. EDIT: Well....Nirvana is late 80's and Early 90's, sooo... Van Halen....... The 80's were such a dead 10 years for Music Band - Celipa - 05-06-2007 You're mom's badass, then. Around here 80's music is all the rage. Band - Krillin - 05-06-2007 I loathe hair bands. I double-loathe Guns n' Roses for shitting up "Knockin' on Heaven's Door". If they ever go after Classical Gas, I might have to pound some skulls. Band - Celipa - 05-06-2007 Aw. You're making me sad Chris. I thought what we had was special! Band - Aero - 05-06-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Bojack I'm saying that Buckethead doesn't make a good restricted band member. Slash does. So replace Slash with Buckethead was stupid. They should've just held an audition like other bands do. Band - Bojack - 05-06-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Krillin Honestly, I don't know how much fucking up that song had left in it. I never saw what was so great. Yngwei Malmsteen > Eddie Van Halen 80's were a dead 10 years of music? Pigero fails. Back in Black? Ozzy discovering the talent of Rhodes, Zappa and Wylde? The last good era of 'heavy metal'? New wave? Prince? I'm Rick James bitch? =( Band - Pigero - 05-07-2007 Quote:Yngwei Malmsteen > Eddie Van Halen Well of course Eddie Van Halen sucked...self taught...(no offense to you Jimi Hendrix enthusiasts...but face it. Self-Teachers are good song writers that get lucky, not good guitar players overall). Back in Black? From the viewpoint of a Guitarist, that album is one of the biggest upsets in 80's Rock. Ozzy was better off in Black Sabbath. And not acting. Or biting off bat's heads. Band - Bojack - 05-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Pigero Self taught doesn't matter. Angus Young learned from watching his brother play, Jimmy Paige only had a few months of technical training, among others. Eddie didn't suck, Malmsteen was just better. Eruption remains the best guitar solo ever. Back in Black is a classic album. There was something on the radio not too long ago where they played the greatest 100 albums ever, Back In Black came in third. Many people consider Angus Young one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) guitarist ever. The riff to Back in Black is the most popular guitar riff ever. She Shook Me All Night Long has one of the best solos ever recorded. What chu talkin' 'bout Willis? =( Ozzy was better in Black Sabbath, but through his solo career he discovered the brilliance of Frank Zappa, Zakk Wylde and Randy Rhodes. But yeah, Black Sabbath > Ozzy solo career. Band - Downy Peach - 05-07-2007 Stevie Ray Vaughan is one of my favorites. Oh, and Chuck Berry. Don Felder's solo in Hotel California was rockin', and deserves a mention. Band - Pigero - 05-07-2007 Quote:Self taught doesn't matter. Angus Young learned from watching his brother play, Jimmy Paige only had a few months of technical training, among others. Eddie didn't suck, Malmsteen was just better. Eruption remains the best guitar solo ever. I knew you'd bring up eruption. Though Van Halen remains 1 of my favorite bands, eruption and Eddie Van Halen's pickslides and new use of distortion are all the band really has. Again, self teachers are more creative - better song writers. Eddie's biggest talent was tapping, though that takes many less years of practice to perfect than typical "shredding." Jimmy Page, again, wasn't much of a guitarist. He was, however, an amazing song writer. A guitar teacher at any music store you can find will most likely be 2x better than he was at playing guitar, but they probably can't write a riff half as good as he. Back in Black, regardless of how it "sounds," remains a joke to guitarists everywhere. Leave it at that. Angus isn't even a guitarist. Learn to play his songs on guitar. The most simplistic songs ever. Once you actually learn to play an instrument, your whole sense of music changes. Shook me all night long is 3 chords. 7 Notes added in during the chorus. The solo wasn't even his. It was basically the Stairway to Heaven solo played slower, with a "bluesy" backtone. The only reason "Back in Black" is referred to as one of the greatest rock riffs ever is because...well....simply, the band got lucky. I like to listen to their music occasionally....but listen to other bands. It also seems to be that the most underground a band is, the better they are. Randy Rhodes also turned to be out a fart of a jackass. Band - Krillin - 05-07-2007 I love how people bring up great solos/lines/lyrics/riffs in all of their favorite songs in their favorite genres, and declare them to be the "greatest _____ ever". Not quite. You need to actually look at all music in entirety to claim that. Rolling Stones magazine can't tell you which are the greatest Rock n' Roll songs of all time. Radio jockeys can't either (though both of them probably have a greater grasp on music than you do). On a side note, again, I absolutely loathe the bands you guys've been discussing. I'd literally rather have silence than those bands. You want to start talking some 'real music' (to use your absolute-imposing musical views)? American Pie, by Don McLean Chasing Cars, by Snow Patrol Those two right there sum up my genre selection. Band - Blind Man - 05-07-2007 Aquabats ftw kthxbye. Band - Bojack - 05-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Pigero Here we go, AC/DC is 'too simple'. That's the whole point, they have been playing the same song for 30 years and still pwn. That's rock and roll. There's no bullshit involved, it's just a Gibson SG plugged into a Marshall. No effects, no distortion (a few times maybe), no fucking with the tone knob, they just rock the house. They don't keep it simple, they keep it primal. Everyone can relate to it and love the hell out of it. Angus is my hero. I play guitar. I will entertain that foolishness no further. Jimmy Paige wasn't a great guitarist.... um, ok? Dazed and Confused.... with a fuxing violin bow? Exploring damn near every tuning known to man? A pioneer of the heavy metal sound? =| Have you heard 'Since I Been Lovin You'? @Krillin- I've heard enough. Rock guitar has only been around for 60 years. Band - Pigero - 05-07-2007 You're just confirming what I said... He's NOT a great guitarist. He IS very creative, as well as a great songwriter. What does experimenting with a violin bow have to do with being great at playing? Btw, Angus uses so much distortion (though he uses more tone), it's ridiculous. And I don't like how you call 'simple,' 'rock and roll,' mainly because you used Led Zeppelin as an example of rock and roll right after. Led Zeppelin is NOT simple. |
