Akira Toriyama's last anime - Nori - 05-22-2007

I would of preffered if he stopped after Frieza was defeated on Namek.

I mean. Goku was the Legendary Super Saiyan at that point; the hero of the universe. The Cell Saga/Android.. it made Super Saiyan like..

"Oh.. so your a Saiyan? Have you gone Super Saiyan yet or do you want me to help you become a Super Saiyan?"

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Kirano - 05-22-2007

Stopping at the Freiza saga would have been too short. It would have turned out like YuYu Hakusho, which I feel needed one more saga. And I don't get it.
Without the Buu saga, there would have been no Final Atonement episode, which a lot of people rate as thier favourite episode. It worked out fine.

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Nori - 05-22-2007

Yu Yu Hakusho had..

1..
2..
3..
4..
5..
6..

Arcs/Sagas. =O

Seven if you wanted to include him attempting to become alive again.

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Tapion - 05-22-2007

YYH was PERFECT! I loovvveessssss that show.

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Kirano - 05-22-2007

The sagas were really short though. There were only 112 episodes.

Agreed...

In my peronal opinion it would've been cool if it just ended there.

Android 19 is the only thing that makes the Cell saga a little bit better... Too bad he only starred in like 2 episodes :/

Dude are you kidding me? 19? Even Android 20 was better to watch than 19. Cell was the biggest factor. The key.

*Sniff Sniff*

He's cute!!!!!!!!!!!!

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Kirano - 05-22-2007

19 sounded gay in the Ocean's dub.

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Nori - 05-22-2007

Cell was.. unique. But I liked the Android 18 + 17 Duo better then Cell. When 18 beat the bajesus out of Vegeta with no effort.. awesomness.

Yeah... I agree with that..

But he's so funny!

If you look at him carefully in the android saga, when Vegeta tore away his arms.

Focus on his expression lol!

I remember having this discussion before. Super Saiyan was a legendary ability, yeah, sure, but to just end it at Freiza would have short changed the foreshadowing Akira did about Gohan's ultimate hidden power, one that made him have strength equal to or in some cases surpassing that of his father, which he'd been hinting at oh..I don't know, the entire series!

Ontop of that, only Goku becoming a Super Saiyan? Even though Vegeta claimed for so long that he should be able to due to his lineage? Then just....not? And Cell was the ultimate freakin' enemy. He was the amalgamation of all the greatest heros in the universe, Freiza was a random effeminate lizard tyrant. If Freiza was the biggest of the big bads, I think I would have liked DBZ far less then I do.

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Downy Peach - 05-22-2007

He should do something with more depth, something that most of us could relate to, something with a little realism. Like base it off an event that occured in ancient history or something, like the Heian period. I'm sick of kiddy kick and bash, which is kind of contradictory being on a website such as this. One or two is okay, but after that it sort of crosses my boundaries.

EDIT: Infact, as long as his career goes out with a bang, who cares, y'know? Fuck it, it's all about commercialism anyway.

Akira Toriyama's last anime - Aero - 05-22-2007

We all know that Akira didn't make GT right? He merely overlooked the project.

Also, hard to tell if this Blue Dragon will great; I don't even know the story.

EDIT: Also, it doesn't matter if Blue Dragon is a flop, because he'll be considered one of the most influential anime artists of the century regardless simply because of the DB chronicles.

Watch Death Note instead.

Turles, I think you have some misunderstandings regarding Toriyama.

Originally, he planned Dragonball to be a humorous series with only slight amount of fighting. This is quite evident from the loads of humor (or at least attempted humor) included within the original show. However, due to fan demand, the series started to lean more and more towards fighting. It still retained some of it`s original pourpose till the end. I guess that`s probably why it was never a big hit in the US.

Then came Dragonball Z. This too was something Toriyama planned (since he wanted to differs Goku`s childhood and adulthood), but he never planned it to go beyong the Frieza saga. He originally wanted to make Goku sacrifice himself in order to save the universe. Another indication of this is that early discussions about the Super Saiyan indicate there is supposed to be only one. But of course, the fans wanted more. But this also caused Toriyama to start slowly distancing himself from the Dragonball series. All up till DBGT where he only supervised the project.

Personally, I can`t really blame Toriyama for becoming and less and less involved. The Dragonball series had grown into a monster whos intention was completely diffrent from what he originally planned. Heck, they guy made his own parody of DBZ.

We`ll see how Blue Dragon workes out. However, I expect it will contain lots of humor, which is usually standard for Toriyama`s work.

Exactly, if he draws in and makes a bundle, it works. Who gives a shit how crap it may have been, the guy made a lot of money and so I don't blame him for any of it.

I didn't know all that, I always thought he had it planned out to go to GT then just sold it off or left.

Seriously. Yeah, I do. What's it to you?

I can relate to ancient history better then I can a cartoon character shooting mega-ultra beams from it's ass.
