The Stage of History - Bardock - 07-30-2008

Surely you've tested Mitsurugi. He's too popular for his own good.

The Stage of History - Raditzu - 07-30-2008

Oh yes. Mitsurugi is as sword-tastic as he's always been. He's actually never been one of my favorite character and is often one of my worst. Not enough footwork and too much vertical motion.

The Stage of History - Bardock - 07-30-2008

I've never liked Mitsurugi for those very reasons, but his weapons have always been ridiculously powerful and his moves (when properly executed) hard to dodge.

I stick with Maxi, Raphael, and Kilik, in that order.

The Stage of History - Bojack - 07-30-2008

Misturugi is a beast. Misturugi, Siegfried/Nightmare, you're set.

The Stage of History - Raditzu - 07-30-2008

Pfft... Nightmare's a fag. He's the leftover crap that Sieg was tired of dragging around with him.

The Stage of History - Bojack - 07-30-2008

Maybe it's the way around!

The Stage of History - Android 17 - 07-30-2008

Do they still have the pirate?

I always played as the pirate back in the day. He was awesome.

The Stage of History - Bojack - 07-30-2008

Fuck me.

Misturugi > Cervantes > Seigfried/Nightmare

The Stage of History - Raditzu - 07-30-2008

I really hope you're not saying that Sieg and Nightmare play the same. I would have to </3 you for that.

And yeah, 17, they definitely still have the dead pirate.

The Stage of History - Bojack - 07-30-2008

How different are they this time around?

The Stage of History - Raditzu - 07-30-2008

Different enough that they shouldn't be lumped together.

Sieg a lot more technical with different stances that work better at different ranges and in different situations and so on. Nightmare is more of a "hulk smash" kind of character. He reminds me of the old Rock.

The Stage of History - Super Buu - 07-30-2008

I wasn't going to buy this, because I thought if they were trying to sell more copies with Star Wars characters, the gameplay itself was probably going to be awful. But it actually looks not that bad, and the customisation stuff looks fun, so I ordered it (comes out tomorrow in the UK).

Vader and Yoda are almost certainly going to appear later as DLC for 360 and PS3, respectively. There was a video of them fighting on Youtube, which has now been removed, and there's also this. I hope it's true, because it would suck if you couldn't pit them against each other, and Darth Vader looks way better (I'm getting 360).

The Stage of History - Saz - 07-30-2008

Hmm. I can't decide whether to get this. I got Soul Calibur 2, and 3 on the PS2. But I never really got that good at the game, mostly just completed each characters storyline and moved on to another game.

The Stage of History - Bojack - 07-30-2008

DLC?

The Stage of History - Bujin - 07-30-2008

Downloadable content, or something similar to that.

The difficulty seems scaled down for most of the single-player content, meaning it's easier (and more enjoyable for those who don't want to be uber-serious about it) to get through storylines and arcade mode and such.

The "Tower of Souls" (a pseudo Weapon Master mode) offers some great challenges and the "tag" system they use is actually a lot of fun as well. It's also an easy way to rack up money and unlock weapons/armor.

You've played a Soul Caliber game before, right? How could you think the gameplay would be awful?

The Stage of History - Zangya - 07-31-2008

I've honestly never played a Soul Caliber game, but I've read up on this one and I'm itching to get my hands on it -- but, being a newbie to the franchise and also being rather skeptical on fighting games (anything besides Dragonball Z doesn't usually tickle my fancy) I am probably going to rent it.

Oh, and I'm getting the 360 version; mainly because I don't have a PS3, but even if I had both, I'd get 360 because Yoda > Vader. That's just how it is. Which game is the Secret Apprentice a character on? Both?

The Stage of History - Super Buu - 07-31-2008

I guess 'awful' is a strong word. More like 'mediocre'. The series was getting pretty stale at 3, I thought, and with these additions it seemed like they had completely run out of ideas. I wasn't going to buy a sequel unless it added something significant, but it seems they've actually done that.

@Zangya: Yeah, the apprentice is on both.

Really, the character I'm looking forward to playing as most is ... a self-built one. I didn't really take to the one in 3, but this sounds like it'll be a lot better, especially with the ability to use them online.

Cool. I may buy this for my 360. I never had a chance to really get into the Soul Caliber series when I was a lad.

The Stage of History - Super Buu - 07-31-2008

Woot, that means I can pown your ass on Live.
