Saying "there is no set, but you have to choose one of these two things" is completely contradictory. It's not a real choice. The point of saying "there is no set" is to encourage people to experiment with builds that they like. Saying "these are the only two boots you should ever buy" encourages the exact opposite. I understand all the pros and uses of Reverie (I even stated that it's a great item). I don't usually build it on Nasus and, for people who are almost guaranteed to forget to use the item during a team fight, it ends up being a waste of gold. That's the audience I was speaking to. And no matter how much you like the item, there is not a single argument you can make that says that Reverie is worth the gold even if you never use the active.
While repeating the conventional wisdom of LoL can be helpful, it's more helpful if you tailor your comments and advice to the people you're talking to. Active items with the ability to disengage are not the level Mal is at. Trying to force it down his throat because you've heard as much from high Elo players isn't really helpful.
EDIT: I sound like I'm being a bitch here and that's not the intent. I'm just tired and don't really have the energy to make the words all pretty and nice. Just know there's no malicious or otherwise aggressive intent in my choice of wording. I was simply being blunt.
That's fair enough. I agree with you on the points you've mentioned. There's no need to debate about these issues. Once Mal gets comfortable and really gets into the game maybe even in competitive levels, he wouldn't need our suggestions anyway. You were right, I wasn't taking into account of the activation of Reverie, many people forget to use it, heck even I forget to pop Zhonya's Hourglass sometimes. Good stuff.

Nothing personal, but I am usually 90% of the time the first one to die in team fights. Ok... maybe not 90% of the time when using the jackal, but yeah. So yeah.. this mythological thing they call disengage.... =P

This was taken from the initial tips I was given when asked about Nasus. I've gotten lots of info about Nasus, one of which also referenced another guy using CDR boots on Nasus IRC(It would have been Kaden or Tryg I think, but it could have been someone else). It might also be somewhere on these forums but im not tracking it down.

Actually Skyarts tournament build is Shurelya and Frozen Heart, with Merc Treads. None of the top players play for real in solo queue, which gives them space to try stuff out. If you look at the replays for the tourny, he rocks merc treads every game.

I do usually go Merc or Tabi on Nasus, but I don't even decide on this until I have seen how the game goes. The primary reason I go Merc is if I feel I'm being kited. Occasionally, I'll take Cleanse to deal with that but usually I'm Teleport + Exhaust (This seems contradictory with Wither, but I like having the ability to absolutely shut down their carry OR to even use the combination on a problematic bruiser to let me get even more Q dmg through. Its extremely are to get away from me with both up.) Sometimes Flash, sometimes Ghost. Almost always TP in that combination though.
Since I tend to wait till later in the game to get boots, I don't tend to get CDR boots, because my playstyle prefers I just rush Sheen to ensure that my Q's actually kill the mob more than just take it to 10 hp for a mob to steal. Since I'm farming the lane for a while, I don't really need the extra speed. I will go CDR boots if I feel, however, that I'm being left completely alone with no harassment and thus have no need for the extra immediate survival from other boots.
After Sheen, I tend to take a Force of Nature + Sunfire Cape combo, finishing Triforce as well and then after that, maybe GA, depending on the context of the situation.

I raged at my modem last night, after comcast was a dickhead with their service again. I was having fun with Drunken Jungle Xin and the shit seemed like it was going to act up. It froze once for a few seconds. In top bush ready for gank.... Tryg says he's ready..I say go.... I cant go.....and No one can hear me on mumble....
Look at modem... Blue light goes offf...
After about 15 minuted of taking it out on the adapter.... the blue light on that modem will never come on again

As common courtesy, let people know beforehand if you're just planning to troll with some joke-build like Crittlesticks or AP Ezreal. I don't like getting into games and finding out that it's going to be a 4v5 lategame because you want to dick around.
EDIT/RELATED: Wasted a fucking hour in a game today on this shit; last game of the night. Lost entirely because it was a 4v5 at the end game.

Early on double kill in the palm of my hands... only to find out that I was totally unable to use abilities.
Not silenced or stunned. The client just decided I shouldn't use abilities as Corki. Couldn't even mouseclick a gatling gun. Tried resetting keybindings and whatnot, ended up restarting the game.
Okay, back in. Let's get back to lane and... OH SHIT. Screen goes black, game closes, and a bug report window pops up.
Riot, please stop fixing your servers and instead fix your freaking game client.

There's only one team that I've run into lately that can compete with our inability to team comp. This team picked Gangplank first, WW, and a bunch of other guys (my LoLReplay apparently didn't save this match). Essentially a team of mostly junglers. They decided that Rammus had to solo top lane against me on Udyr while WW (Magewick) and Gangplank (gp10 support plank?) would take bottom, leaving someone I don't remember mid. Jungle was Nocturne. Yeah, that failed miserably.
