This just goes back to Women's MMA. The people who criticize the sport are going to use it as another round of ammunition. Like in the early UFC days where some tiny guy in a karate suit almost gets ripped in half by some guy that resembles a tub of lard more than anything else.

Women are just as capable of employing the skills used in MMA. Women should have their own division. The only point I had in saying what I said is that it's going to be used to objectify women far more easily than it would taking another step towards making it a legitimate sport like boxing used to be.

The mere fact that Zena initially referred to it as "women's MMA" makes this all pretty amusing.

The Like/Hate Thread - Celena - 08-19-2009

There's mens MMA and then there's women's MMA. In terms of divisions so to speak.

Hate: lots of rage on the site today. Can't people make a point without getting angry at people who disagree?

or, LOVE AND PEACE, BROS

The Like/Hate Thread - Jack - 08-19-2009

Well, idk... this has kind of evolved into something else.

But at first you said "welcome to the world of women's MMA" like it was something totally different from men's MMA (which it is). And like, the difference is that they are women, and people watch it to watch women fight (for whatever reason), and then this whole thing about sexism exploded. It's kind of funny.

Not as funny as Saz's Dark Ages views on gender roles, but that's hard to beat.

Hope this doesn't include me. I try my best not to do this anymore, but it wouldn't surprise me if other people are still seeing it and I'm not.

Eh..all I said was "welcome to the world of women's MMA" as in the women's division. Wasn't trying to imply anything else.

It's pretty differcult to see Womens MMA as a legitimate sport, it does have an element of the freak show about it... people wanting to see two women fighting like men because it's just so out of the ordinary. I mean, you can bet your ass the men in the audience weren't watching to see two female athletes battle each other in a match of strength and skill, they just wanted gawp at two women beating the shit out of each other, the hotter the women the better, and you know, if you wanted to throw some jelly into the mix, I'm sure they wouldn't argue.

From the little I know about womens MMA Gina Carano has been hailed as "The Face Of Women's MMA" (presumably because she's the only female MMA that actually looks like a woman), and has basically been given a easy ride, being put up against weak opponents to bolster her record. Her fight against the crushinator or whatever her name was, proved that she wasn't a high enough calibre fighter, and basically is just window dressing for the "sport". Because the people who pull the strings know womens MMA will get little to no attention if all they have is she-hulks fighting.

I don't know maybe I'm being harsh, but that's just the way I feel about it.

For someone who's ignorant about Women's MMA that's a pretty bold statement. I'm pretty sure the majority of people who watch these women fight are fans of MMA so I doubt they'd just ignore the strength and skill aspects which add value to their fights. It's like you're trying to compare it to women fighting in mud where there's a male audience. These women are professionally trained fighters with various fighting styles and train year in year out.

It's sad that the majority of fans believed Carano carried women's MMA, when there are talented female fighters out there better than her, who aren't shown a lot of attention.

Exact same can be said about the WNBA.

Didn't stop it from being awful.

The WNBA is awful. I can't defend it.

It takes a penis for athletics to be entertaining on the basis of competition and performance. All other "women" sports are popular because of hawties: Anna Kournikova is not known for her skill with a racket.

I love how people always pick out the hottest athletes of female sports but totally forget about the talented ones, who actually make the sport interesting to watch like the William sisters of tennis. Who cares whether they're attractive? Not a lot of people actually do. People just want to see a good match and that's the part a lot of people forget.

Sorry, your assumption isn't as likely as ours. Hormones probably trump logic.

Me and a fellow coworker were discussing womens tennis yesturday actually. He said he dosent watch anymore. Instead he turns the volume up and closes his eyes and listens to the girls yell when they hit the ball and then he masterbates to it. lmao And yea I watch womens mma just in hopes of a nip slip or the fight to suddenly become a lesbian sexy party beat down. SmileAtleast im honest.

I always get mocked in physical education when I start moaning like the female tennis players. Granted it was badminton, so maybe I didn't need to groan that loud.

It does work great for distraction tho'.
