My CA keeps rising. and i'm not RPing.

That happened with me as well. He said I was 20th, and without roleplaying, a couple of days later I'm 19.

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Kazuya - 02-14-2009

People switch and lose what CA they had, so the XP they spent is lost, but the remainder all goes towards the new CA of 500.

So wait... If you switch characters, you only lose the XP you spent on techniques, but you keep all your unspent XP in addition to the starting XP?

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Kazuya - 02-15-2009

You keep whatever XP is over there in the post bit. You know how we do that whole translating of XP -> CA thing when someone buys a tech? Like, you have 23 XP, so roughly 230 CA, plus your current CA.

So, a person who just switched will have 500 CA, and they brought over say, 19 XP that they didn't spend on their old character. 19 XP roughly equates to 190 CA. 500 CA + 190 CA = 690 CA. Now, say that person makes a roleplay worth 8 xp ,that'll be 80 CA, whether they spend it on a tech or not. That 80 CA will go onto that 690 up there, and give us 770 CA. Follow?

EDIT: (PART DEUX!) The unspent XP over there won't show up as your official CA. The standings above are basically, from my POV and understanding, 'Potential CA', which is basically your current characters CA and the sum of your unspent XP's CA.

EDIT:

Quote: TL;DR:

If you switch characters, you lose only the XP you spent on that character. The left over in your post bit is universal, at least, from my understanding and what I've been told.

So in other words...

*lots of excessive words ;-)*
"Yes, though you don't get the starting 5 XP a new member gets."
*more ways of explaining it*

Alright, got it, thanks Smile

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Carter - 02-15-2009

I'm climbing! =O

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Kaden - 02-15-2009

It's also possible that Reb missed your XP during an update and added it in later, or something like that.

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Alura - 02-15-2009

With Alexander, it's because of the whole issue with his XP. I kept having to fix it because there kept being mistakes on the editing.

With Ashe, I was probably just late.

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Sullivan - 02-15-2009

Should my Inner Power effect my standing?

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Celena - 02-15-2009

No.

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Alura - 02-21-2009

A nice big update to lead us into the FoF signups

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Kokukashin - 02-21-2009

First off, please excuse me for being completely ignorant on this topic, but I have a few questions.

1. If you spend XP on techniques, does your CA go down? Basically, is CA directly correspondent to your available XP, plus the joining bonus?

2. Is the whole concept of CA an informal ranking system, or is it really relative to IC role playing? For example, Szar is 28 ranks below me, so if for some reason I sparred or fought him IC, would I pretty much have the ability to invariably win?

If somebody could point me to a thread explaining all of this, I will be very appreciative.

Reading through the relative thread in the RULES Forum should help.

Regardless, here's a quick run-down. CA goes UP as you gain XP. The only way you'd ever permanently lose CA is if it was incorrect to begin with (if someone typed in "12000" instead of "1200" for example).

Combat Ability DOES impact a character's performance. Right now, for example, Piper (with a CA of 1300+) is almost twice as strong as you are (with a CA of 700+). Not quite, but almost. You'd be hard pressed to win that fight. Going the exact opposite direction, Bill Baer Jaxx would have a much better chance of beating you, and his CA is 550+. In both cases, the characters are 17 rank apart, but the circumstances of their fights would be significantly different.

Does that help?

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Szar - 02-21-2009

=(

I was sort of strong once. XD

Yes, that answered my questions perfectly. Thanks!

And Szar, I just randomly chose your name off the list, not a personal attack or anything.

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Szar - 02-21-2009

I know. No worries.

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Alura - 02-25-2009

Big update. Not a lot of place movements. Xena moved into the top 5 but is still pretty dead set with Alexander Trafford, by a mere 2-ish XP. A couple people, including myself, moved up one spot. Also, Ren Woxing was replaced by the Wizard, who actually roleplayed, and moved up the list.

-The distance from #5 to #1 is 30.15 XP

-The distance from #10 to #6 is a mere 10.5

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Alexander Trafford - 02-25-2009

whatever happened to Juno? and Misa?

Combat Ability Rankings (UPDATED 11/26/09) - Piper Juunanagou - 02-25-2009

Misa's on leave, although she's been gone for longer than she estimated.

No idea on Juno.
