The Stage of History - Zangya - 07-31-2008

Rented. =D

EDIT: Wow, Yoda's story is short. (It was awesome, though.) Movin' on, I guess.

Super Buu Wrote:I guess 'awful' is a strong word. More like 'mediocre'. The series was getting pretty stale at 3, I thought, and with these additions it seemed like they had completely run out of ideas. I wasn't going to buy a sequel unless it added something significant, but it seems they've actually done that.

The skill system they added is completely unlike anything they've ever done before. The Soul Gauge is system is a little reminiscent of the old Weapon Gauge system they used in Soul Edge, but there's no weapon destruction.

Also, they no longer have the unique fighting styles for custom characters like they did in Soul Caliber 3. So no "Monk" or "Barbarian" or "Dancer." You just attach them to one of the already existing character's move sets. I have absolutely no problem with that, but if you were really into the custom characters from SC3, I could see how that would make you sadface.

Zang: All stories are five stages long. Vader's was also pretty short.

Noticed that once I played Siegfried's.

Created a custom, "Skaar." He's in executioner gear, got a Claymore, based off of Nightmare. He's fun, but slow. I think when I create my female custom I'm going to make her faster.

I read about that, and I actually like it. That way if I like a character's fighting style, I can keep it for my dude but otherwise make them look like whatever I want. I don't have to memorise even more button combinations (my main beef in fighting games) and it means they're balanced,.

Skills sound like the most interesting thing.

It does make me sadface, actually. =(

Whichever style had the stick that kept changing size was awesome.

The Stage of History - Saz - 08-05-2008

Just got the game today.

I've got to put in some game time, this time round. Try to take on the harder differculties.

EDIT: Oh and the story mode is ridiculously short. I completed Siegfreds in about 5 minutes.

The Stage of History - Raditzu - 08-05-2008

Like I said earlier, all the stories are 5 missions long. Doesn't take long to beat 'em. Fortunately, that also makes it pretty easy to get some extra gold.

The Stage of History - Pink Underoo - 08-05-2008

Played this at a friend's house. Unlocked all of the unlockable characters, but didn't play with them. Mitsurugi has always been my favorite character, and I've always thought that he lacked horizontal range so it really blows that they actually reduced his horizontal range compared to previous releases. It also felt like everyone's movement speed was slow, and the double-tap hops were short. The skill system has promise, but it's too demanding. Don't think I'll bother getting my own copy until they come out with some serious balance patches.

The Stage of History - Zangya - 08-09-2008

Story mode fails. I'm just saying that.

Personally, five stage stories with no depth are not to my liking.

The Stage of History - Saz - 08-09-2008

The endings are really sucky too. 'Cerberus now had God-like powers, teh end...' ect.

I don't know why I'm so bad at fighting games. I can never seem to get any good, I haven't even played a Xbox live match yet, cause I'm not really interested in getting butt fucked on this game right now.

Not to be overly negative, I think it's a great fighting game. Critical finishes = the sex.

The Stage of History - Bujin - 08-09-2008

Finally got my hands on this game.

Story mode is alright if you're trying to get used to the gameplay, or something. Otherwise yeah, it's pretty useless.

So...yeah. Not enough to make it my favorite fighting game series, but it still rocks.

The Stage of History - Super Buu - 08-09-2008

If a story mode is a pointless waste of time, I'd rather spend 5 minutes on it than 15 minutes. Just my 2p.

The Stage of History - Saz - 08-17-2008

Wow, the tower of lost souls is ridiculously hard. It took me like ten attempts to get through the 4-6 floors, the one with all the lizardmen. Is/did anyone else finding it differcult? Or is it just me.

The Stage of History - Raditzu - 08-18-2008

I've gotten up to floor 30 something before I hit the proverbial brick wall.

My problem is that I've only really gone through and given Sieg any real skills and stats, so the other characters I choose just aren't up to snuff. I came pretty close using the default Sophitia, though. I just need to do a custom of Sophitia and see where that gets.

btw, the Auto-Impact/Impact Heal combo is badass. Through in Soul Repel and you have a character that can take a serious beating without missing a step.

The Stage of History - Saz - 08-18-2008

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong. I only ever use characters with default weapons/skills, I haven't played around with the customization aspect of the game too much so far. Seems a bit complicated from the little I've seen. But I've got a crapload of gold, so I might aswell use it.

The Stage of History - Super Buu - 08-18-2008

Customisation vastly improves all the characters, my main problem is that I can't be bothered to customise them all. Especially since I'm always getting new skills to better the old ones. The whole armour system turned out to be just a big pain in the ass (why did I try to put that word in all caps?) since if you want to have good stats you have to make your character look like a mismatched piece of shit, unless they use rings.

I pretty much stopped playing =(

The Stage of History - Saz - 08-23-2008

Ooooooooh, when you switch characters, the one you're not using regains their HP. No wonder I was struggling. It's funny, no sooner than I find that out, suddenly the next few floors only allow one character.
