First post at the top of the page, tech called "Lionheart" that uses ki to enhance striking power. It doesn't use that language exactly, but that's what it seems like to me, and approved in the following post. This is a tech that follows the same kind of pattern that I mentioned in the post above: a moderate boost to one aspect of one stat. What gives?

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Ander - 01-22-2009

He's surrounding his fists and feet in ki, so instead of just using his physical strength, he is adding his ki into the equation. He's not substituting one stat for the other, he's changing a physical attack (a physical punch or a physical kick) into a ki attack (an energy punch or an energy kick), or at most, using both Strength and Focus at the same time. No boost of stats whatsoever.

Quote:Shrouding his hands and feet in ki, Griffith enhances his blows to give them an added sting.
It's definitely not replacing one thing for another, but a combination. So, if I found a way to combine Focus with Agility I could move with enhanced speed like this tech hits with enhanced power?

Like using a burst of ki to move really quickly?

I think there's a Technique for that...

Is your underlying point that you want his technique removed or changed? Or is there something in particular you have planned for your character?

Conversely I guess you could use a big ki wave to propel yourself like kid Goku did in the original Dragonball.

But some could argue that'd do more harm than good what with the energy expenditure.

EDIT: You answered your own question.

EDIT: This is already a tech! It's called After-Image. :p

Who in the hell keeps editing my god damned posts? Stop it.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Pinky - 01-22-2009

I was planning on making some tech for enhanced generic movement (a combination of Afterimage and Super Leap) to run around faster than normal. But, if all I can get is another version of Afterimage, which is what you're all sounding like you're thinking of, then that's fine.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa. This describes my custom technique, explosive contact, which augmented my fists with energy utilizing my psychokinesis and ki specialization, basically just wrapping my fists with energy, and i was told that it would not be allowed because i was bypassing a weaker stat (strength) in order to take advantage of a more powerful technique of mine (focus). Now you're saying there is no problem with that? I had to completely alter the idea of technique to merely imbueing ki into a pair of leather gloves because i wasn't allowed to do it to my fists.

Because that's not how you described the Custom Tech. You actually said you would use Focus in place of Strength.

That's what we don't allow.

i said emphasize focus rather than strength, i never said replace. I got gloves now though, and i guess that's alright.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Ashe - 01-22-2009

Let me be brief.

We'll allow someone to punch the crap out of someone with a ball of Ki energy wrapped around their fist. In other words, holding a stationary ball of energy and pushing it against the enemy instead of actually firing it.

What we won't allow is "I suddenly go from being extremely fast and agile into a slow lumbering hulk of muscle" type stuff. In other words, take your Focus and add it to your Strength all you want, but don't take your Strength and try to CONVERT it into Focus, going "I flex my muscles and oh snap my beam is super strong now due to adrenalyne".

Ok, screw brief.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Alexander Trafford - 01-22-2009

I didn't want to add my strength to my agility. I wanted to be able to engage in melee combat while still playing to my strengths, but i have the gloves now so i can do it, i was just confused on ruling i recieved. And now i have my answer.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Ashe - 01-22-2009

I was just making a blanket statement since multiple people keep asking. I wasn't singling anyone out.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Pinky - 01-22-2009

I wanted to use Focus to buff my other stats. That's why Focus is my highest stat, and the other stats are in the same general range. It is disconcerting that it can be used to buff Strength but not Agility. I would have distributed my stats differently if I knew all this beforehand.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Sage - 01-22-2009

It's not being used to buff strength. Encasing your hand in ki doesn't make you punch harder. Sure, your punches hurt more; it's like brass knuckles made of ki. You're no stronger for wearing them. O.o

A stat cannot be used to buff another stat. Sorry that you didn't know this, but you're right. You should have asked beforehand.

so, the attacks are "harder" not "stronger". that is a distinction that makes little difference.

I'm sure that at this point a staffer will have no problem just adjusting your stats and being done with it just to assuage your concerns.

However, I highly doubt it would end there.

Importance of Stats - Staff Only - Sage - 01-22-2009

You know what? It is a distinction that makes little difference, as far as end result is concerned. If all you're trying to do is punch something. Even then, it's not really very good at all unless your focus is high.

But as far as implementation, it's totally different. Sorry.
