Its usually because of superior coordination. Being able to initiate a fight properly. Focusing the right people during team fights. coordinating split pushes. Stuff like that.

It doesn't have to end if you're playing correctly. Its very possible to just continue laning and split push the entire game. It generally requires a lot of warding and map awareness, and some champions are better at it than others (Yi, Udyr, Sivir, Karthus, Singed), but very doable.

I hate Mexican stand-offs in pubs. There's always someone who doesn't get the memo to stop wanking around in the middle lane and stays just long enough for the enemy to jump over and catch him, usually instantly triggering what I like to call "leave no man behind" syndrome, meaning the team feels such a tight connection to their fallen teammate, they decide to dive in to a min. 4v5 fight in order to join him in the afterlife.

He ended 0/8/0, arguing with me that HE was the tank and we needed to stay with HIM. I was Alistar. He had two items - Warmog's and Move Speed 3 Boots. No mana for his passive health boost. No AP. No defensive stats beyond the Warmog's. I had Glacial Shroud, Shurelia's Reverie, Move Speed 5 Boots, and something else I believe. Had decent defense stats, was 3/4/0 as jungling Alistar. This guy couldn't even get an assist with his poison, but it was "cause u suk".
Game starts with him solo top and... he never had lane opponents show up. So... bot suddenly gets ganked hard by a roaming Alistar + Eve team that are jungling, and then they catch me in the jungle. After eating our bot repeatedly (basically a four man lane there), they go top and gank Singed. Singed had no laning opp, had only around a 30 creep score against most of us having 40+, and had not really hit the tower, despite being directly under it the entire time. He couldn't get creep kills because he just ran back and forth with his poison, never attacking, and with no AP.
He gets ganked by Alistar and Eve suddenly and types in "lol does our Alistar even no how to jungle?" followed by "u have to gank, i need help at top". I go top to help him, I kill one of them while the other leaves (he STILL gets no assist because he was sitting at the tower doing... something), I get to the tower and get it nearly dead before two of them show up. I nearly kill one of THEM while I'm ulted and a third shows up, killing me. The ENTIRE TIME Singed is acting like Nunu-bot and is just PUSHPUSHPUSHPUSH on the tower beside the fight, letting two of them run off with 10% health while the third kills him, as another shows up. To which he's all "ffs, just stand there and don't help on the tower or anything".

There's a fucking reason that LoL is called a "TEAM GAME" because you have to stay together WITH THE FUCKING TEAM. It might go over you heads, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, you should pull back and defend the THREE FUCKING TOWERS you let die instead of needlessly backdooring top tower. Simple math, what is greater, 3 towers and two teammates dead, or one tower dead? HINT: YOU'RE FUCKING DOING IT WRONG.
As well, don't fucking give up early, especially when your team has more kills and farm than the other team does, and dive bomb into the fucking enemy fountain. That just makes you the number 1 prick of the fucking year. ESPECIALLY when the enemy team is clustered together in front of the fucking nexus with both towers at full health.

If you just bought it real recently and you e-mail support there is a decent chance they'll refund your RP. They're really cool about it.
