The Like/Hate Thread - Ashe - 07-03-2011 Belle Hibiki Wrote:I read the first four books of the series, and Goodkind does that shit in, like, all of them. So? Its realistic shit. That's part of what Martin was going for in his Game of Thrones series as well - you see incest, things involving children, homosexuality, the whole gauntlet. The stuff happens, and was super prevalent even in the times that we don't consider modern (the Romans and Greeks were infamous about it), so there's no point in pretending that modern fantasy should be only PG style. I don't consider the sexual or violence material to be evidence of having issues. That said, one thing about Goodkind is that he's mentioned he's a huge supporter of Ayn Rand and supposedly it strongly influences the "preaching" he does through the character of Richard (I interpret it more as simply being very practical and hard ass yet honorable, but if I actually read some Ayn Rand, I'd probably see it in other things that I don't think of). Those pros and cons aside, the entire series is very awesome and I really enjoyed it, with the preface that I had "finished" the series when it was at the book just before the Chainfire trilogy started, which I have yet to read. He's also releasing a new book that will involve the characters and start a new arc, but he's stated that "The Omen Machine" is not what he considers a "Sword of Truth" book, as that story is finished, and this is simply a new story within the world with the characters after the events of the original. The Like/Hate Thread - Vad - 07-03-2011 Jarka Wrote:Like: Weemus's sister. D: The Like/Hate Thread - Belle Hibiki - 07-03-2011 I thought the main character getting kidnapped by a women-centric culture whom he then cures of their BDSM-hardened cold hearts through the magical power of his cock (paraphrasing... slightly) was stupid the first time. But it happens more than once. The women who doubt him come to realize how awesome he and his ... sword ... are. I mean, hey, I liked the books that I read (the first four? it's been like over a decade since I read them). I thought they were okay. But those parts? That's what I mean when I say he 'has issues' - it's not because there's violence and sexuality, but because it's the same kind of fetishistic sexuality over and over again. I should've said 'kinks' and not 'issues,' really. The Like/Hate Thread - Jonathan Meer - 07-03-2011 Like: Hey Chris, don't worry about work today. Just...go back to bed or whatever. Cheers. Hate that she actually forgot and wasn't joking...then it went to being serious and me having to pull out a bank statement. Like that she was awesome enough to apologize and I was my usual annoying self to rub it in her face and am texting her now to continue to rub it in: 'Hey don't forget your daughters names. Like you forgot when you owed me money.'. I'll probably get a 'jump off a cliff you bastard' reply or something really creepy and vile. Like: Dragon Age 2 somewhat. Not really feeling the modifiers of the armor...makes no sense to me at all. But whatever. The Like/Hate Thread - Tyr - 07-03-2011 Ashe Wrote:So? Vad if you're reading the end of this paragraph, you've bought the book already and you're sick man! SICK![/spoiler] This author have FUCKING ISSUES. GOD DAMN Also, Belle right on the money! Collar introduced after 200 pages into the second book. Sword of Truth series my ass, more like "Richard and collars". Then again, I saw the author picture. The guy looks like a s/m kind of guy. The Like/Hate Thread - Belle Hibiki - 07-04-2011 God what the Hell is up with hentai these days. Like every single one the girls are yelling about some guy's dick 'churning up their insides' or 'ruining their stomach.' From like normal sized pen0rs. And the constant narration of the obvious. Good God, having sex with an anime girl must be like having sex with Rush Limbaugh. The Like/Hate Thread - Nori - 07-04-2011 XD. It's because every man wants to feel huge. The Like/Hate Thread - Ashe - 07-04-2011 SoT Topic: Belle - I think you got more hung up on those scenes than I did. I felt they fit the storyline. I didn't suddenly feel any urge to go run to the other room with a tissue in hand. The things that happened made sense. Leo - Yeah, I know what scene you are talking about without even looking at the spoiler. There's a lot of other things the Sisters of the Dark have to go through. The entire point is to show the violations and abuse the SotD and the Mord Sith have to endure and why they DO endure these things, along with how it affects their personality. In later books, Sister Nicci makes it very clear just how terrified the SotD actually are of the Keeper AND Jagang. There are a lot of things that I find frustrating (recurring themes in general, not what the content itself is of but the fact that there are a lot of recurring situations). I just find it amazing that Martin can have full blown incest and six year old breast feeding and gay knights and all people can say is "Holy shit, this character is fucked up, A+ at making characters who really show you how fucked up they are!" and Goodkind can do the same and its "This author was obviously fapping the entire time he wrote these books, its obvious he has fetishes for this stuff!" |
