The Like/Hate Thread - Pinky - 01-27-2012 like/hate: terrible movies. can't. stop. watching. matrix 2 Rafael Wrote:yeah, loved RE1, 2 and 4(never played 3 for some reason, but w/e) but 5 was too much shooting and no real survival horror feeling. Hey, more angry black dudes and random mexicans, pewpew! No fear or suspense or anything, so dumbi thought RE was moving into realism. ever been in the middle of a flash mob at a 7/11? RE5 covered it pretty accurately The Like/Hate Thread - Vad - 01-27-2012 Jarka Wrote:My personal input on horror games: I'm with you there. Well... Facebook status from today: "How hard is it to find a non live version of some songs on you tube... Why would I want an acoustic version of hinders how long" Facebook status from one week ago: "wow ppl amaze me those laws were not censorship laws they were anti piracy laws and frankly the only issue with them is the language used was too broad in spectrum" I want to respond and point out to her that the reason she's having trouble with finding certain songs on Youtube other than live versions or people doing covers is because, and I know this may seem strange, some labels actively defend their copyrighted content and standard, non-self recorded versions of the songs are not supposed to be on Youtube nor are tv shows and similar. She doesn't understand that a lot of Youtube videos regarding the music and video industry are in themselves classified as pirated material (material shown uploaded without permission for others to enjoy), nor does she understand the details of WHY EXACTLY those bills were considered poorly worded and promoting general censorship rather than just "the good guys fighting the bad". It reminds me of the time she posted an update saying "The atheists need to stop trying to remove our right to pray and thank God in the pledge! If they don't believe, what's it matter to them? You have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion, and you aren't free to not believe, just sayin". I was like "But... but... you're pagan..." She's all "so, that's no reason to need to change how the pledge has always been just so the atheists feel better!" I told her that she was drastically misunderstanding a few things and explained to her a history of multiple changes to the Pledge over time, as well as pointing out the context in which these changes were made (the Red Scare, etc) and then she asked me why I came onto her Facebook deciding to pick a fight (despite me discussing with her through private messages regarding an obviously intended confrontational Facebook status. Since then, I've managed to just avoid responding to a lot of statuses because, honestly, a lot of times when we post messages, its just generic thought processes randomly being thrown out there and we may sound confrontational but aren't necessarily wanting to sit down and argue it out. I guess. The Like/Hate Thread - Kayne - 01-27-2012 wooooooooow. I read that whole thing. Its stories like this that make my day complete. Then I was like "OMG SOOTHING." Like: Alcatraz The Like/Hate Thread - Jonathan Meer - 01-28-2012 Piper Juunanagou Wrote:The originals were fantastic pieces of survival horror. You were thrown into a terrible situation. There wasn't endless boxes of shotgun shells/machine guns/rocket launchers lying around nor was there some creepy guy in a robe with access to some Spanish black market. You...didn't like Dead Space? The Like/Hate Thread - Super Buu - 01-28-2012 I think he very specifically used the phrase "Dead Space was a shitty survival horror game". I would say that true survival horror games are not 'fun' in the strictest sense of the word. You do not finish Silent Hill with a grin on your face. The same way I would describe Dark Souls as being not fun, but something in me desires to play it because I am a masochist and like a challenge. In that sense, I guess I 'get' what's enjoyable about the original Resis. The Like/Hate Thread - Jonathan Meer - 01-28-2012 Ok. There was ambiguity there. Whether or not it fits into the genre, I have a hard time imagining someone finding Dead Space to be deadly dull. The Like/Hate Thread - John Doe - 01-28-2012 Like: http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/where-did-survival-horror-go The Like/Hate Thread - Piper Juunanagou - 01-28-2012 I liked Dead Space for the ambiance and the fact that it kept me guessing for at least the first half of the game. Like Greg said, I thought it was crap as a survival horror game. As a game game, I liked it. The Like/Hate Thread - Belle Hibiki - 01-28-2012 Dead Space 2 just shat ammo at me everywhere for the first half of the game. Then it stopped and suddenly I was running dry and terrified that I was going to run out of plasma cutter rounds towards the end. I imagine higher difficulties are even more harrowing. The Like/Hate Thread - Pinky - 01-29-2012 i like dead island. drop-in, drop-out multiplayer zombiefest by deep silver. not the most polished but it gets the job done. it has gameplay elements that remind me of farcry, project breakdown, and mass effect. the only thing that bugs me is that it doesnt get enough attention. http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?v=56SfgnRsqZQ i think i saw a pc download going for $10 on newegg The Like/Hate Thread - Shun - 01-29-2012 Dead Islands opening sequence makes me nauseous, lol. I haven't gotten far into it yet but the game seems interesting. Kind of reminds me of Left 4 Dead. The Like/Hate Thread - Super Buu - 01-29-2012 Belle Hibiki Wrote:Dead Space 2 just shat ammo at me everywhere for the first half of the game. Yeah I think in some cases you simply have to be really good at games to play hardcore survival horror. I'm all about a challenge but sometimes the difficulty becomes a brick wall rather than a hill, in which case you can't even continue playing. In Dead Space 2 I was still outright running out of ammo, in Resident Evil I just RAN OUT, on several playthroughs, though I got a little further each time. Then corpses would get back up and turn into worse zombies, it was kind of a brick wall. Dark Souls would have been the same if not for the experience system that allows you to grind a little to make the game slightly more doable. Even then I ended up gimping my character and had to restart (which I still haven't gotten around to). The Like/Hate Thread - Piper Juunanagou - 01-29-2012 Rose Wrote:in Resident Evil I just RAN OUT, on several playthroughs, though I got a little further each time. Then corpses would get back up and turn into worse zombies, it was kind of a brick wall. That's what you get for not burning the bodies. You gotta get dat kerosene, man. On a related note, I give Dead Space mucho props for making me mutilate every corpse I came across (although this was mainly to save myself time rather than any fear/paranoia of them all animating and trying to kill him). Still, that gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling. The Like/Hate Thread - Super Buu - 01-29-2012 I ran out of kerosene. There's not enough for all the bodies =( Next time I'll just use it on the ones in the main hallways first. There's also kind of a luck aspect based on whether or not you get critical headshots, which I'd try to get with every zombie. Hell knows how you're supposed to beat the game without knowing all that, though. |
