What Waf meant was that the specific process that we outlined would result in free gameplay.
The game, in and of itself, was never intended to be free.

If anyone wants to join us, we're going to start playing on the Xeebra.org servers. We haven't really even started yet, I've played maybe 30 minutes and I've probably played the most so far.
By the way, it's about a 3.8gb download for the installer so it will take a while.

Because honestly, to me, a "cracked version of the game" makes me a bit uneasy.

It's not a cracked version of the game.
It's someone other than NCSoft running the server but it uses all the official code from the other.
There are 100s of these servers around.
