IT IS GOOD IDEA. Questions about proposed changes - Kaden - 01-10-2011 Juno Wrote:My wall of text on the previous page gives my endorsement of this concept as well as Static Events as well. Just so people are aware, a thread about this exact topic has been in the staff forum for a week now. What would be helpful is if someone could make a place for people to recall what major moments should be included in an official timeline or history or whatever we want to call it. A significant amount of this is just going to have to come from memory and most of us have fairly -- I don't want to say "biased" but it seems fitting -- biased accounts of past events. Questions about proposed changes - Sigfried Hunin - 01-10-2011 For example: WTF is katchen. I mean, do I have to katchen all to be the master? Questions about proposed changes - Rebekah - 01-10-2011 Sigfried Hunin Wrote:For example: WTF is katchen. I mean, do I have to katchen all to be the master? Bad joke. You're not getting monies. Katchin is the strongest metal in the known DBZ universe. It appears in the Buu Saga when Supreme Kai makes it. Questions about proposed changes - Jarka - 01-10-2011 http://www.cdbzrpg.com/forum/showthread.php?p=547955#post547955 Thread for world building suggestions! That way we won't crowd this thread anymore. Questions about proposed changes - Josh - 01-10-2011 Jonathan Meer Wrote:It does not break the internal logic of the RPG, because the RPG has been built around the possibility that the weaker can defeat the stronger. It's not hard to make it work in IC, in a world where people can shoot laser beams out of their ass. This delineation between OOC and IC has worked for many years. It does break internal logic because the system works as a hierarchy like so: Power Level -> Stats -> Custom Techniques. The strength of your techniques are based on your stats, and the strength of your stats is based on your power level. It doesn't matter if you have a technical character who has a great number of techniques because none of their techniques will be strong enough to match up to someone who's considerably stronger than them. Also as you pump prestige into Techniques, it will cost more to buy PL. So someone who simply pumps PL will get much stronger, faster than someone who pumps techniques first or tries to balance the two. I'm sure we can write in many deus ex machina explanations for someone of a significantly lower power level defeating that of someone much stronger than they are. But it will become cliche rather quickly, and is something that can easily be remedied from the get go. Jonathan Meer Wrote:On your final point in this quote block, I, in essence, agree. When you paint it out to it's far-flung extremes, a sheer newbie shouldn't stand a chance in hell against an established and gifted veteran. But, of course, that's by-and-far the exception. 99.9% of the resolutions this system will have to determine will not be in regard to individuals 20x stronger than other individuals (by virtue of the diminishing returns). When those things come up, we'll deal with them. It's not far flung extremes, people just need to focus on PL and they will get much stronger quickly because they only have to buy into one area. While people who buy techniques, and items, and combat items won't get much stronger but become more versatile. But they still end up losing because of all their vaunted techniques, none of them will be powerful enough or fast enough to touch the guy who just pumps PL. It's retarded to have to purchase PL, it should simply increase with any purchase or the acquiring of prestige. Or it and stats should be removed and the only purchasable items being Techniques, Combat Items, and Non-combat Items. Just saying. It's like forcing us to strike a balance, or to go one way if we're interested in winning anything at all. It's fine to be based on techniques many people are, just make your primary stat focus. Questions about proposed changes - Jarka - 01-11-2011 Josh Wrote:It's fine to be based on techniques many people are, just make your primary stat focus. I just wanted to say that I agree PL should have more of a weight than the number of techniques for the reasons you've mentioned throughout this thread, despite writing a character who is kind of a weakling, powerlevel-wise (er, I should say, that's the way I'd RP her in the new system). Since it has been quite a point of contention now that we have some specifics, perhaps a new official poll of the members is in order? Questions about proposed changes - Belle Hibiki - 01-11-2011 The whole PL/CL thing seems pretty ... maybe not confusing, but needless. Like, okay. I build PL. I get PL, and at the same time I also get CL. Alright. Or I buy techs. And items. Which increase my CL. So even though IC I'm less "DBZ", I'm still strong in a fight against a person with a higher power-level. In essence, CL is the measure of how effective your character is in combat. Or that's what it seems like. ... In other words, it's exactly what CA is supposed to be under the current system. Some people currently roleplay as super DBZ characters with high power level, some as wily tech-mongers with a swiss army knife of abilities, and others as, say, cooks with psychic powaz... But it's all covered by CA. I don't think PL/CL is even necessary, unless it's explicitly there to make people think 'o hai this iz doragoon baur!' Then again ... I guess it would be nice to be able to actually see my character's power level, since I actually haven't been able to do any kind of judging on that score since staff decided CA != PL (one of the big reasons why I stopped RPing). Questions about proposed changes - Jarka - 01-15-2011 So, are we going to learn about any new changes to the proposed system or is the public part of the discussion done? Questions about proposed changes - Kaden - 01-15-2011 There's nothing new to say at the moment. Some specific things need to be looked at and evaluated. I haven't had the energy for it and my mind has been preoccupied with matters of much more significance. That said, this hasn't gone forgotten. Questions about proposed changes - Kaden - 01-16-2011 Might as well ask here: does anyone consider themselves to be particularly good at mathcrafting? EDIT: By mathcrafting, I mean coming up with reasonable numbers to fit a projected scenario. If player X makes Y posts per week and each Custom Tech posts (Z+CL*N), then what should all those different numbers be. Questions about proposed changes - Jonathan Meer - 01-16-2011 I'll take a whack at it. Questions about proposed changes - Sigfried Hunin - 01-16-2011 I'm really good at basic algebraic math crafting. I learned this from Pen and Papers. EDIT: I like to THINK I'm really good at basic algebraic mathcrafting... v_v Questions about proposed changes - Tyr - 01-16-2011 I'm basing my education on a primary of math to get into medicine, I can take a peek at it. Granted it might be too theoretical for me (I'm being taught a more technical/apply to irl approach), but I'm always looking for a reason to use this fucking expensive calculator. >_> Questions about proposed changes - Jarka - 01-16-2011 Sigfried Hunin Wrote:I'm really good at basic algebraic math crafting. I learned this from Pen and Papers. I second Sig's nomination most fervently. While I would like to assume I'd be good at numcraft, I lack the experience and confidence to say I that I am. However, I would be glad to try or to analyze others' attempts, as I am good at picking things apart for their strengths and weaknesses and finding solutions to those problems. Questions about proposed changes - Orion - 01-23-2011 So has anyone had a crack at the mathcrafting of the formula? Any results? Questions about proposed changes - Jonathan Meer - 01-23-2011 Yeah. There's a working formula. It'll probably be tweaked as time goes on, but it's just a matter of raising or lowering the numerical constant and seeing what happens. |
