[Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aqua - 06-27-2007 In honor of the pre-presidential frenzy, what does staff think of getting approval ratings from the members. By that I mean there is a poll designated to each staffer wher the members can vote their approval of the respective staffer. This might help staff better figure out who's "reaching the people" and who "rubs the community" the wrong way. In the way of voting options, I suggest: Very please Moderately please Indifferent Moderately Displeased Very Displeased These would all have to be spam off threads. But I feel like it might be good for the members to get to voice their opinions about each staff member in an attempt to better the experience here. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Alura - 06-27-2007 Nah. I understand where you're coming from, but Chubbs staff was never designed to be a democracy. If any staff wanna do it, that's cool, but I don't need a fancy poll to know who likes me and who doesn't [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aero - 06-27-2007 I suggest that maybe there should be a Member Association, where a small group (between 2 to 3 members) represent the entire body of members and discuss with staff topics that members may have issues with. Kind of like Representatives and Senates, except it would be more like this Senate approaching the Supreme Court about issues or something. Feel free to shoot me down though. =) [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aqua - 06-27-2007 It wasn't aimed so much at learning who liked you, it was meant to be aimed at what % of the people you staff for approve of your execution of your staff duties. I'm beginng to feel, more and more, that the members here have no sway or choice whatsoever and it's a scary feeling. edit: interesting suggest Gokua. hmmm [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Alura - 06-27-2007 Chubbs isn't a democracy, it's a dictatorship. That's how it's been for years. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aero - 06-27-2007 I'm not going to try and sway your mind since you've made it clear that Chubbs is a dictatorship (Actually, it's more of an Oligarchy, but whatever). Just want to say the things evolve to suit the current. That's all. And cooley. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aqua - 06-27-2007 Burter Wrote:Chubbs isn't a democracy, it's a dictatorship. That's how it's been for years. Are you figgin kidding me? I mean seriously... are you being for real? Not spamming or flamming, I just can't tell if you're joking... [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Alura - 06-27-2007 Welcome to Chubbs. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aqua - 06-27-2007 Holy shit.. that's fucked up "in my opinion." [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Waffuru - 06-27-2007 Why? We're all unpaid volunteers and we've been running the site successfully for nearly a decade. We do put a certain amount of weight into what they members say but only when the use the proper channels. If you PM a staff member asking about something like this it always gets posted in the staff forum. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aqua - 06-27-2007 You are all handpicked volunteers that are on the same site as the members. I know what work goes into running a site, I do it. If you aren't making the members happy, what's the point of doing anything. The purpose of the staff is to make the site as good as possible. "Good as possible" relates to the member base's approval of what's going on. if the member base doesn't agree with what's going on, then it shouldn't be happening. Ergo, this should be, on som elevel, a democracy. I'm not saying every single decision should come to a vote. I'm saying that disallowing the members to have an adequate voice by warning them or locking their threads every time they dissagree is fucked up. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Waffuru - 06-27-2007 If we were really trying to snub out your voice do you think this thread wouldn't be locked by now? We're not trying to stop you from voicing your opinions, we just don't want you to derail threads with the "he said she said". If you have a problem with a post, report it. It gets emailed to every staff member and then we can deal with it. How is that not an adequate voice? From past experience, when people post their minimodding and saying "oh lock this delete that change this that or the other thing" threads go in off-topic directions and it is generally not beneficial. We just don't need the "oh my ____ is wrong with that post!" in every post. I don't know why you think that means we're trying to stop you from having a voice. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Old Zangya - 06-27-2007 Alright, a compromise then, before this gets too ugly. We have two groups here: the staff and the members. Of course, the main point here is that the staff help make the site a fun experience for the members, and the members try to follow the rules to make the staff's lives easier, right? Okay. The members already have a big amount of freedom by being allowed to suggest things, as Aqua was doing. And Chubbs being a "dictatorship" is okay with most of the members. But to come to a compromise, perhaps for a day or so every month, the staff could put up a survey and ask the members for their opinions on various things: Who's your favorite staff member and why? Who's your least favorite staff member and why? What's something you think Chubbs should add? What's something you think Chubbs should get rid of? etc., etc. I was looking over the "Debate Hall" forum, and perhaps the staff could go over these surveys, pick some big issues, and then put up a type of Debate Hall forum for these things. EX: "Should Powerups be Easier to Get" or "Is so-and-so a Good Staffer" Perhaps, then, also, whenever staff is thinking about appointing someone to a staff position, they could put up a poll, just for research purposes, to see how many people (or a percentage, perhaps) would like them on staff. Just an idea.
[Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aero - 06-27-2007 I don't think all of this is necessary. I think staff does a wonderful job and really, I like all of them. I may disagree with some of their views on things, but I like all of them. They all contribute, and all deserve their position. Now, I think there may be a little bit of a communication problem between staff and members at times, but that's all. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Rem-13 - 06-27-2007 If a mod bothers you, you should probably just talk to a staff higher up, I don't thinks it needs to be so public. And a board for suggestions is enough to get a debate, just like we are doing right now. As for staff positions, they know better than members what it takes, so we don't need to give our approval. Which I know is not what you were getting at, but is what it makes it seem like. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Old Zangya - 06-27-2007 I have no problems with the staff. I think most all of them do a wonderful job. I was just saying, the idea was for the mutual benefit of the staff and the members who constantly or frequently are at odds with them. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Kaden - 06-27-2007 Burter and Waff, chill. This has nothing to do with our style of "government." If the members have something to say, they can say it. I made a poll, like Aqua suggested, here: http://www.cdbzrpg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22172 Any staff member is free to do the same, but I'm not going to make one of those for everyone. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Old Zangya - 06-27-2007 And that's why I put what I put about you, Rad. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Aqua - 06-27-2007 I commend you Rad for offering the members the chance to voice their opinion. Hopefully, good and/ or bad opinions will help you guys in your efforts. [Suggestion] Approval Ratings - Kaden - 06-27-2007 Its unfortunate, and incredibly infuriating, that others decided to make light of it. |
