Just a thought that occurred to me a week ago or so, and I haven't fleshed it out, but Rad's comment to me one time about worrying about putting too many SP into speed got me thinking: now that we have diminishing returns on stat points, it becomes less and less easy to rectify stat allotment errors or desires the longer the game goes on. I'm not sure how switching characters affects stats beyond the initial penalty, but if it functions the way it did before it, too, doesn't allow you to just swap around SP.
Perhaps there could be a yearly free 'respec' for players? Awarded on the first of every January? And not allowed to 'accumulate', but expire on December 31st?

I've thought about this before, actually. Haven't really thought of something that I thought was a great solution, but what you suggested is pretty close to what I was thinking.
