Heavy Update - Pinky - 08-20-2008

Worst unlockables and achievements so far. I was kind of expecting an accurate ranged weapon to replace the shotgun so the Heavy wasn't so limited. Also, the KGB should have the slow effect and the new minigun should be lighter to allow faster movement while firing but oh well.

The Sandvich needs an immediate reduction in the cooldown, at the very least.

omnomnomnomnom

on a serious note I've only gotten the sandvich, which I have no problem with, but the boxing gloves look fucking ridiculous (not in a good tf2 way) and Natascha sounds pretty stupid, unless the slowdown is greater than I imagine. Of course I thought the flare gun was worse than it really was when it first came out. Still not good, but not as bad.

Also make surer you watch meet the sandvich. DOEET

I don't like any of these things. You have to actually kill somebody with the KGB to get the crit bonus, and since the sandvich replaces the shotgun you have to add the minigun's priming time to the eating time for a total of about six seconds where you're completely vulnerable. Natascha could go either way, and could be really great or useless depending on the situation.

Also, omnomnomnom.

I like standing around eating sandviches while my team does the work for me. Its almost like real communism.

Valve has been very forthcoming with their design philosophy for TF2. One of the key points for unlockables is that they should not relieve a class of its core weaknesses.

The TF2 classes are built around that system of flaws. Valve did a very good job, imo.

Heavy Update - Pinky - 08-21-2008

Yeah, I understand that the characters are cast into roles, but the Heavy has been painted into a very small corner. The sandvich has obviously been in the works since the beginning, but the other unlockables? It's like they were picked out of a hat at random.

The KGB gloves are just dumb. I know the Heavy does a lot fo damage with melee strikes, but how often do you ever kill anybody with punches? And on the off chance that the person your attacking doesn't run away (because all other classes can move faster than the Heavy) and you do manage to kill them, and there's someone else in the immediate area to use that crit time on, you switch to something more useful like the minigun and you've got to spend a few of those precious seconds of crit time priming the gun. You could use the shotgun (if you aren't using the sandvich) but that has a worse range than the minigun.

I always rush the last point with my fists out, the pussies can't run or they loose the point faygs.

Heavy Update - Pinky - 08-21-2008

If you melee the last point, then what's the purpose of the crit time?

Heavy Update - Rem-13 - 08-21-2008

None! I just want to punch things and then eat a sandwich. I am a simple man.

Heavy Update - Pinky - 08-21-2008

Okay.

The other characters that have unlockables have silly items, too, (axetinguisher? ubersaw?) but at least they have a practical use. If the Heavy got five seconds of 100% critical hits simply for landing a melee strike, then the KGB would be much more practical. But, you have to actually kill someone with melee using the slowest character in the game to get a few seconds, most of which is used up by just switching to the main weapon, and there's no guarantee that anybody will even still be around by then. That's asinine.

Heavy Update - Super Buu - 08-21-2008

I can see where Natascha would be helpful, and it really only works for the Heavy. The Heavy has an advantage in health, but most of the other classes can get around this with hit and run tactics, because they're faster. Ie Scout. This weapon stops them from being able to dart back behind cover, and turns it into a slogfest - whoever kills who first wins. The Heavy tends to win in those.

It also makes him even better at defending, since people can try and 'rush' a point, a heavy slows them, whilst all the other defenders use that to cut them down whilst they're out in the open. Obviously it all depends on how much it slows the target, but if it turns out to be 'useless' I'll eat my hat.

The only thing that doesn't seem useful is the KGB, since you need to actually kill someone for it to work.
