Dead Space - Szar - 10-26-2008 Anyone played this game? I'm on Chapter...5, I think, and it's pretty sweet. For those of you who know nothing about it, allow me to summarize: ZOMBIES. IN. SPACEEEEEE! Dead Space - Belle Hibiki - 10-26-2008 I'm currently on Chapter 3, or I was two days ago. Haven't picked it up since that first session. So far I'm having fun, but I think the game misses the point of survival horror. Killing enemies should not yield a positive return in bullets. It takes me two to three shots of the first gun to kill enemies that, nine times out of ten, drop 6. My inventory is overflowing with ammo. I'm having to DROP STACKS of ammo to make room for med-packs. Not that I take all that much damage yet, but I'd rather have four medpacks instead of three and miss out on one of my ELEVEN STACKS OF FUCKING CHARGES. *cough* But maybe I'm being harsh and Dead Space isn't 'survival horror', per se. Although is certainly seems to have a majority of the trappings of the genre (such as "go to the horribly terrifying and dark basement/engine room to flip a switch to fuel up the station and get the gravity generators online"), its pace is comparatively frenetic. It's like... action horror. Dead Space - Kaden - 10-26-2008 I think not having enough ammo is just a cliche pushed by Resident Evil. Personally, I think it would be scarier to have a gun that doesn't really do anything to the baddies I'm trying to fight off. Just personal opinion, though. Dead Space - Belle Hibiki - 10-26-2008 Having a limited ammo supply really does ramp up your anxiety, imo. Maybe having an ineffectual gun would do it, too. Or maybe one that has infinite 'ammo', but reloads really slow and only 'stuns' the enemy. But this? I dismember them completely in a few shots. When they get hit, they stagger back instead of continuing to rush. They're scary LOOKING as fuck, but so far they've all been pansies. I'm considering trashing my current starter gun and picking up a pulse rifle for the authentic Aliens experience, as that's what this game most reminds me of. Dead Space - Saz - 10-26-2008 I'll get this game eventually, looks really good but I had to decide to get either this or Fable 2. |
