Activity Jumpstart Suggestion - Vad - 10-31-2008

Recently I've been writing with a friend over Instant Messenger. I was thinking, what if we did that here. Exclude the Instant Messenger and just make a thread to do it in.

How it works.

In the AIM version of this idea, I would write about 2 paragraphs then send it.
My friend would continue the story however she saw fit. And I would continue where she left off at the end. The key is to leave each post open ended so the next person can pick up. Basically we're creating characters, but when it's not our turn, someone else has full control. It could be a new way we do saga. But I suggest we devise a control device so no drastic things happen. But it is extremely different from what we're used to. It may spice up roleplaying. It did for me, that's why I'm back.

Let me know if you want details. And please, anyone, post questions, I'll be happy to answer. And I can post some examples.

That's the thing which I always thought seperates this RPG from others, the quality of the roleplays. 95% Of roleplaying sites do roleplays like that which you suggested. So I'd imagine it'd probable boost activity, as in the amount of posts per day/week people would make, but it might also cause the quality of writing to drop.

Not necessarily. It should increase quality here, since it's not in a struggle for speed like on Messenger. And most boards are consisted of idiots. Chubbs is an elite group.

You could certainly do that if you found someone who would join you.

I know I wouldn't...I don't like people controlling my characters unless I've RPed with them one on one, like Rad, for many years.

Activity Jumpstart Suggestion - Orion - 11-01-2008

I wouldn't either. All the other DBZ SSJ6764 Vegetrunks RPG sites tend to do that. They just want to talk about DBZ, not actually roleplay characters/etc. In any case, I don't like that style.

Someone had an idea that involved partnering people up. I think if you don't have a personal storyline in mind, that would help with the boosting. Making it mandatory might hurt the individual activity though.

'Partnering up' is basically roleplaying with someone else, which happens a lot around here...

As for your idea, Baldwin, I don't particularly care for it... I enjoy the way we RP.

Activity Jumpstart Suggestion - Belle Hibiki - 11-02-2008

I don't particularly care for it, but I don't see a reason for stopping people from doing it in a limited fashion.

The problem is when you partner up with someone like 18 who doesn't like anyone to RP her character without years of knowledge of the character.

Asking a question, then having to spend like 500 fucking words describing a goddamned flower on the ground, or the rust on the wall, or some diatribe about your personal issues to reach what the Chubbs community considers a 'good' post length is so unbelievably fucked, but I see it happen all the time; not so much in staff sagas, where you almost always have a wealth of shit to respond to, but a lot in quests/personal sagas when the players haven't really worked out where they're going or how their characters work.

Activity Jumpstart Suggestion - Vad - 11-02-2008

Yeah, no one likes it. I dropped the idea a long time ago. Its fine. Its good to suggest. Thanks for the opinions.

Activity Jumpstart Suggestion - Waffuru - 11-02-2008

We didn't need everyone to reply just to mention they don't like the idea.

If you want to do this, and all parties agree, go for it.
