The funny part is that I started up a country called Callasinth on the original just a couple weeks ago, then looked around. I was disappointed, I was expecting something up the lines of Utopia and other Empire building games, but it was more just a politic simulator than anything.

It's not a very good political simulator. I just take it as general fun.
Every political issue is super polarized, such that a verification of free speech laws will likely lead to '<YOUR COUNTRY>'s children are widely recognized as the most foul-mouthed in the region', and an affirmation of higher taxes for the wealthy will lead to 'The wealthy in <YOUR COUNTRY> pay a 100% tax rate'. Kinda lame.
