I'm currently learning Dvorak and typing a new RP post!

Discuss.

I was meaning to make a Dvorak discussion.

And to point out how slow I'm typing currently in Dvorak.

What the fuck is Dvorak?

Just set it so that only Word is running Dvorak, so I can keep learning while writing. Took me the better part of 3 hours to get like 200 words down. At least it's making me slow down my pace enough to think everything through.

And I'm now reaching for the semi-colon key when trying to type s.

Sweet.

It has a "Win" Key. =D

QWERTY is still better than DVORAK.

It was good in theory but... doesn't work well. Some people do actually like it better but I've never really heard of anyone improving upon their speed in switching layouts.

I'm mainly switching to test it, besides the cool factor. But obviously, I'm only keeping some windows on that layout, because otherwise I'd never get anything done properly. I'm still writing. Up to around 400 words in like...hours.

I'll also probably set up my computer to set itself up as Dvorak if I'm idle for hours, so that if I get random people sitting at my computer, they can't do anything properly.

I can type like 100wpm with qwerty that's good enough for me, unless I become a secretary there would be no need to speed up any further than that I would think.

Mwahahaha! - Cain - 08-11-2009

The latter might be effective.

Mwahahaha! - Josh - 08-11-2009

Though my typing style itself is unusual.

Most people type like this:

w w

I type like this

E w

So you have your hand facing sideways? That is unusual. I usually type like this:

w

Mwahahaha! - Jack - 08-13-2009

I don't get it.

Bil Baer Jaxx Wrote:I don't get it.

Think of the w as your hand facing away from you, and E your hand facing to the side. I assume to the right.

Also, I gave up on using it in the post around 80% through because I was losing track of the story.

Uno Wrote:So you have your hand facing sideways? That is unusual. I usually type like this:

Yup that's how I does it

My left index is on the C, the middle is on the F and the ring is on the R. As for my right hand, the index is on the H, the middle is on the U, and the ring is on the O.

If you want to see how I have my hands positioned.

Mwahahaha! - Waffuru - 08-14-2009

That's uncomfortable.

Mwahahaha! - Orion - 08-14-2009

Yeah that's weird. Any reason you do that?

Mwahahaha! - John Doe - 08-14-2009

It actually feels alright if you tilt the keyboard away from you at an angle. But no way in hell would I try that. It's hard enough for me with two hands the regular way.

I have big hands and find it nearly impossible to type the normal way, I sometimes type with just one hand.

To give you an idea of how large my hands are, I used to play Pokemon Red one handed on the Gameboy color, and I can hold a can of soda(top to bottom) between my thumb and index finger

That's around the same size as my hands. And I know it's difficult to type the normal way at first, but once you get used to it, it's pretty easy. Of course, you also need one of those 'ergonomic' keyboards, else you can't really type fast. Luckily, I learned how to type fast before my body fully grew up, so in my case it's only a minor inconvenience in that I move my hands a lot outside the keyboard, and sometimes have to hold them as if I'm playing the piano.
