For role-play purposes and IC motivation, each person who signs up is considered to have been sent a personalized invitation addressed to them. Whatever the invitation says is entirely up to you, because it's all about saying whatever it needs to say to convince your character to join. The envelope includes a special chip which is used to grant passage past the security checkpoint.
This is outlined in the Welcome! thread. You can post an "I'm here" role-play in there, but you can just go straight to another area if you'd like. There's no maximum cap on how many role-plays you can do, but I recommend everybody post at least once.
