I posted my first post from "Let Go" on the Outer Space board into this. It takes your word selection choices and syntax and figures out who you are most similar to.

I took a post from Judgement, a thread from last year, and it said I write like Dan Brown. It was more of an interaction scene.
Second post from the same thread yet slightly more violent was also Dan Brown.

I put in several different things I've written. Each entry always resulted in a new name. Results are on the left with their most recognizable work on the right.

Well...if this is accurate, Ander's "utility" theory about my writing is right. xD I got H.P. Lovecraft for my first example, Douglas Adams for the second, and Edgar Allen Poe for the third.
EDIT: After trying it several more times, Stephen King and Dan Brown seem to be the most consistent.

I entered all of my work as Carter and got either Dan Brown or Raymond Chandler.
Either Dan Brown is a fabulous writter and I need to look into him or this is all hogwash, lol. However, I will be looking into both writters now. Very interesting.
Edit:
Raymond Chandler only seems to be praised by critics, so I can at least feel some gratitude for my work. However, Dan brown has repeatativly been noted to have a 'clumbsy' style.
I'd probably say that is how I would sum myself up in anything I do. Impressive yet lacking at the same time. Again, very interesting.

That has to be a lie. Out of all the writers mentioned thus far in this thread, with the exception of Poe, Joyce is easily the most influential. Guy wrote Ulysses, probably one of the most challenging and taxing novels ever. Took two reads through to fully comprehend it. Just mind blowing shit.
Honestly, not even trying to be a dick here, I don't understand the comparison. Which of your posts did you submit?
Edit: I submitted Dreams and Doorways (I think was the title) in it's entirety. I got Raymond Chandler, a novelist known for hardboiled detective novels. I didn't know what hardboiled met, so i looked it up and it said 'literary style distinguished by an unsentimental portrayal of crime, sex and violence.' I thought that kind of characterized my grimy, darker style that, at least in my opinion, i use frequently. Needless to say i thought it was fairly accurate.

I used my post on New Day for the evaluation and it spat out James Joyce. I didn't take out the tildes then, so I'm not sure if that would have had an impact.
Tried it about an hour ago and it spat out Margaret Mitchell.
Was wondering what I did different and tried a few different pastes, wondering if the one this morning was somehow truncated or incomplete. First 'section' still get Margaret Mitchell. The second, starting at "Master Long awoke..." and ending at "she's strong alright." returns James Joyce, as does the fourth.
I was wondering what changed, and it appears that the software for the site was updated about five hours ago (also here). They added new writers and "a small analysis bug," whatever that was. I'm guessing that's why.
So no, I didn't lie.

It says it analyzes word choice and writing style, but I have to believe based on some of the results that it takes into account the genre of your writing. If there aren't any specific references (e.g., sex, science fiction terminology, etcetera) it will give you an author who has a specific style but doesn't necessarily match the genre you yourself are writing.
