So Steam is doing this awesome gift-pack thing, where you buy like six copies of a game for dirt cheap.

So like, this is a bit of a gamble, and I dunno how well it'd work out ultimately, but maybe a bunch of us could get together, pool some resources, and share the gift packs?

I'm envisioning something like this: I buy a six-pack of Borderlands, investing $40 (keeping one for myself, in this case). Anyone who wants a copy of the game can have it, and they therefore owe me 40/6, or $6.75-ish. To remedy this debt, they would purchase a gift pack, perhaps of something I would want (among others), and giving me a copy of that game would counter-balance the debt they owe me.

It's the sort of thing that might not work exactly as well as we'd like, but they're offering four gift packs today (Half-Life 2, Deus Ex GOTY, RUSE, and Borderlands) with at least 50% savings for each game.

What do you guys think? This wouldn't really work out so well unless we got a significant (read, ten people) number of folks interested, and who'd check in each day and would be responsible and honest about it.

Except none of them are priced the same... or even all 6 copies. =(

Deus Ex is like $12 for 8 copies when RUSE is $150 for 6. I guess if you had 5 extra copies of Borderlands you could trade it for other stuff if people wanna buy packs. Sadly, nothing on there today really piques my interest.

I know people have gone in together to buy packs and split the cost but it can be hard to find people for it who aren't douchers.

Yeah, that is a problem. I'm figuring we'd stay away from things like RUSE, and keep it simple.

Also why we need ten people or so, to even out the interests.

I'd be completely willing.

Borderlands I have. Its good. I'd suggest getting it at the sale price, singly anyways.

I'd do this kind of thing on a case-by-case basis. Deus Ex and Borderlands have been on my radar for a while.

I'm waiting for Borderlands GOTY to drop down.

Deus Ex is great.

I'm thinking this probably wont' work out so well (though I'd really like it to). The games they do end up putting on bulk deals seem to be getting a bit of a price slash anyway, like Deus Ex and Borderlands. With all the weirdness of only trading games that we want anyway, seems likely that at least a handful of people (and maybe more) will end up getting shafted.

Now, if this bulk deal was something they did over an extended period of time, and not just the next few days, THAT would definitely be a worthwhile thing to engage in.
