Changing Power-Ups - Kaden - 12-24-2010 There have been a lot of idea thrown around in the CA Removal thread about things that could/should/would be changed to help improve things. We're facing some definitely problems, everyone's aware of that. Some of these things can be treated with a few changes, some of them can't. Regardless, we'd like to do what we can to help get people active and encourage them to RolePlay. One of the recurring themes in the CA Thread was that Power-Ups are no longer these meaningful badges of achievement. The change to Power-Ups was made for definite reasons, but if those changes are proving detrimental then they're not in our best interests to keep around. So feel free to weigh in about how you think Power-Ups should be changed, if at all. Changing Power-Ups - Super Buu - 12-24-2010 I think it depends on what you do with the rest of the RPG. I'm pretty neutral, I'm fine with how power-ups are now but I wouldn't mind if they got changed. Changing Power-Ups - Kaden - 12-24-2010 How would other potential changes affect your position on this one? Changing Power-Ups - Kaden - 12-24-2010 Just realized I didn't mention this in the OP. Any removal of Power-Ups implies a refund of any invested XP. Changing Power-Ups - Jonathan Meer - 12-24-2010 Change them back to how they were. Make them very rare, as before. It's hard to give concrete examples when we have no idea what the grander plan is. Not to derail, but I think systems should be designed as a whole with a mostly-complete vision, not voting on bit by bit. If you change powerups, you have to consider not just the 'feel' of the RPG but the balance of the game. If you changed how CA worked, powerups could become ridiculously important and game-changing, and that raises more issues. Since I have no idea if you guys are going to make any other changes, it's impossible to know what potential problems there could be to consider. This feels like a totally redundant post but I feel it would be rude not to at least try to answer your question =P Basically, 'do whatever you think is best'. Changing Power-Ups - Sigfried Hunin - 12-25-2010 I agree with Rose. We can't address an issue that doesn't really have a home right now. I'd say until we've decided on how the site should be operated as a whole it will be impossible to gauge how the interaction with Power Ups will effect gameplay. The poll and question, it seems to me, is concerned only with how power-ups are earned, not how they function. Changing Power-Ups - Sigfried Hunin - 12-25-2010 Yeah but how they are earned is still part of the big question. I mean, if major changes are going to occur, they should all happen as cohesively as possible. Changing Power-Ups - Jonathan Meer - 12-25-2010 Well I'm certainly not going to argue with that. I suspect the disruption of changing the way Power-Ups are earned will be minimal. Changing Power-Ups - Kaden - 12-25-2010 The overall direction and design of the RPG won't be changed by this question, or the outcome of the poll. Yes, thing should be implemented as cohesively as possible, but not everything needs to be contextualized in order to be discussed as effectively. There are two methods of giving out power-ups. One is by allowing people to purchase them with a form of currency which they've worked to earn. The other is by having a governing body decide who as earned them and when. This is a decision that does not require an entire layout to be made. If the member-base, or at least the most vocal part of the member-base, have strong opinions about something, those opinions should be heard. Posts in the CA Thread made it clear that there were definite opinions about how Power-Ups are handled. It makes no sense to say, now that you've been given a platform "yes, I feel this way, but it doesn't really count." You guys give us pieces that think do or do not work and we can make sure they're pieced together properly. For some of you it may be weird to deal with putting an issue or mechanic in a box and just giving us your gut response, but the gut response is exactly what we're looking for in this case. Changing Power-Ups - Piper Juunanagou - 12-25-2010 I think they should be earned/rewarded rather than bought. Getting my old 40x power-up was one of the high points to my Chubbs career. Changing Power-Ups - Vad - 12-25-2010 Getting Toma's Kaioken was mine. Changing Power-Ups - Dehan - 12-25-2010 Don't matter to me. Maybe a combination of the two so people know where they stand. Changing Power-Ups - Orion - 12-25-2010 I'd be fine with either way. The only concern I have is that existing characters who have rped transformations have to do even more retconning. EDIT: It also creates an issue for XP. A lot of it needs to be used in order to gain power ups. If we go the earning route, XP will be worth less. It makes no sense to say, now that you've been given a platform "yes, I feel this way, but it doesn't really count." Personally, opinion-wise, I was pretty ambivalent in that thread too about powerup acquisition, that last post I made was something I came up with based on what other people wanted. =P I actually kind of like being able to buy my powerup because I know how I'd like my character to get it and in the case of a character with a custom powerup, I'd have to then instruct staff how it might one day possibly happen, or whatever (obviously this is less of a deal with fixed powerups like SSJ). But like I said, I could still work it if it was changed, and I see all the advantages (makes it more dramatic and meaningful) so I wouldn't kick up a fuss if it was changed. Changing Power-Ups - Jesper - 12-25-2010 Just for reference, I think allowing people to keep their current power-ups would trivialize changing the way it works, and I say this with full understanding of what it would do to characters. Changing Power-Ups - Android-18 - 12-25-2010 It would ruin Vicky, but, as long as I could RP that she DID have it those two times she used it, I'd be happy. She needs it to be triggered by an NPC as it is, and I've yet to RP explaining how she'll do it on her own yet, so I'd be alright having to earn it again. Changing Power-Ups - Sigfried Hunin - 12-25-2010 I think those who are most active and participating, who have truly EARNED the right to be mighty by multiples instead of by points, should be awarded powerups. Changing Power-Ups - Alexander Trafford - 12-26-2010 Why not both? Keep a x2 power-up that can be purchased, but then also have a x5/x10 level power-up that has to be earned. |
