Considering the discussion that's been taking place, and some of the things people have expressed in the varying threads, would people be happier with Combat Ability turned back on? As I stated before, it's been there and active this whole, simply not displayed for anyone.

So... yeah.

Turning CA back on - Sophia - 01-06-2011

I voted "I don't care" because I don't care. Simple enough, right?

Seemed pretty unanimous in the other threads, though.

Something should be done to address the alternate situation though. I don't know, I just was reading this poll and I was like, fuck, all these alternate characters, it's basically like having a wave of new people swarm in with baseline power levels. Right now if Victoria joined the saga, which she is saying that she will, than I hope there is no PC fights since basically every other participant is at 500ish CA.

Turning CA back on - Victoria - 01-06-2011

For the record, I RP Vic as being less powerful than she is. It's not like she's going to go all over the place stomping on people ^^.

Understandable though...Isn't it fun to have someone who's strong, someone who's weak, and the stuff between? What's a game without challenge?

Either way, I don't think PL will be the deciding factor in fights from the way people are talking. Optimism!

Turning CA back on - Garbanz - 01-06-2011

I'm neutral. I don't want CA to be gone forever, but I also obviously don't like the huge power gaps. If you're planning on making system changes, I'd probably just wait.

That was the intent. Wait to see what shakes out of the discussions about changes and then make a decision.

Given the saga, though, I thought people might want some sort of context when interacting with others in a combat scenario.

If we're gonna have a stat reset to acompany the new system then I see no point in bringing it back at this point in time.

Turning CA back on - Piper Juunanagou - 01-06-2011

I voted yes.

Turning CA back on - Jonathan Meer - 01-06-2011

I voted Yes.

I would be against a stat reset.

From the sounds of it, a diminishing returns system is the most likely revision of the current system. Diminishing returns would not require a complete overhaul of the current CA system.

For the purposes of the saga, it would be very worthwhile.

Basically sums up my opinion so qft.

Turning CA back on - Super Buu - 01-06-2011

Well ... I do like the idea of having some hard powerlevel fluff in the saga. As long as it doesn't mean I'm now going to die a horrible death as a result >_>

Turning CA back on - Juno - 01-06-2011

I'm okay with defeat, as long as good writing is rewarded in some way. A good way to reward quality writing in a saga would be to NOT kill the loser, for example.

500 CA guy versus 10000 CA guy; obviously 10000 CA guy wins. But if the 500 CA guy role-plays well enough, he might be able to escape with his life, unlike a less awesome writer.

Yeah. Death as a reward for good writing is fucking lame.

Since we've been encouraging honesty in these threads lately, I might as well say this: while I'm indifferent towards a lot of changes, I'm not sure I like diminishing returns. I've seen the idea fail so many times, including here.

EDIT: I was not on this profile when I clicked to reply. <.< What the hell happened?

This, and I voted yes.

Having a newbie beat an established, consistent, productive writer in a roleplaying game (it is, and has always been, a game) is fucking lame.

"Fail"?

The system we had when I started, of weekly TP and stats to put it in, was very popular in a certain sense, but was nevertheless a complete failure. There were a number of issues; it had been going for so long that people at the very top were untouchable gods (not to mention the whole Determination issue).

The success or failure of a system is not determined by its popularity, but by whether or not it solves particular problems. A Diminishing Returns system solves particular problems, which have been deemed to be substantial over the last several years.

It does introduce its own complexities, but then, nothing is a perfect fix.

My statement and yours aren't mutually exclusive. Like Juno said, it'd be nice for someone who clearly wrote better to escape with a person's life. That's by no means saying that the newbie will beat this established, consistent, productive writer of yours. Also, for reference, I was mainly hinting at Sophia's death in FoF III, which, with respect to your scenario, was the fucking lamest of all.

I'm too lazy to quote the other part, so...whatever. I have no idea why it doesn't work. That doesn't change the fact that I've never actually seen it work. In short, I guess my position is "I'll believe it when I see it."

If it's going to be implemented, it's going to be implemented. I just wanted to say my piece.

Turning CA back on - Jonathan Meer - 01-06-2011

I heard about Sophia's death at FoF III. Sounded lame.

Turning CA back on - Belle Hibiki - 01-06-2011

You guys could try one not-staff saga without it.

You know, for variety.

Turning CA back on - Jonathan Meer - 01-06-2011

lol wtf, CA and PL have, for the last several sagas I remember, been either substantially downplayed or not considered at all
