Because we are writers, after all.

Pretty sure there already was one of these, but I don't feel like digging it back up.

Just finished 1984 by Orwell; quite scary. Felt a little predictable though, particularly in the chapter-or-two monologue near the end. Orwell's not the most enjoyable writer by style (though he's got his moments), but the work is nevertheless worthwhile. Frightening too.

Also just finished Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris. Pretty insubstantial and short. If you've listened to or read Chris Hitchens on the subject of atheism, then you really have no need for this one. He says in the intro it's to enable atheists in the conversation, but this is about as basic and general as it gets. It's only value would be for people who would be least likely to read it.

Currently reading Fight Club (Palahniuk), The Satanic Verses (Rushdie), and Paradise Lost (Milton).

I read Paradise Lost recently. I pretty much concluded what I already knew: I'm not a fan of Renaissance poetry.

I'm admittedly not reading anything at the moment, but I've never read any of the Harry Potter books, and although I'm more than a few years late, I've considered reading the first one at least.

finished blink by malcolm gladwell recently, and finally grabbed a copy of musashi's book of five rings. the other copies that i've read were always online and i prefer the feel of a book in hand.

What Are You Reading? - Sigfried Hunin - 01-08-2011

I'm currently reading the Graphic Novelization of Bram Stroker's Dracula. I don't read much. I don't know why.

I can ship you the copies I have...I need to get rid of them.

Does manga count?

What Are You Reading? - Jonathan Meer - 01-08-2011

No.

EDIT: ;D

What Are You Reading? - Vad - 01-08-2011

I read articles on Askmen.com and JamesBowman.net

I'm reading the play Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire; it's really good, and different enough from the film to be enjoyable.

I'm also in the process of reading A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines and Tolkein's The Fellowship of the Ring.

What Are You Reading? - Jack - 01-08-2011

Lone Survivor by Marcus Lutrell.

Next I want to find Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley.

What Are You Reading? - Rem-13 - 01-08-2011

Reading Great War, by Turtledove and Magic Kingdom for Sale Sold by Brooks in tandem. I had previously finished Washington: A Life by Rob Chernow which I very much recommend if you're into that.

Indubitably.

What Are You Reading? - Piper Juunanagou - 01-09-2011

REM: I read the entire 'How Few Remain' series of books. They're all good stuff, although as a history major, I may have some biased <_<

Right now I'm slugging my way through War and Peace.

What Are You Reading? - Dr. Cringle - 01-09-2011

Reading Pride and Prejudice. Pretty hilarious book; Mr. Bennet is a man's man. Don't tell the man how to help court his daughters, Mrs. Bennet. He's got 99 problems, but you ain't one.

Also reading the Gone series by Michael Grant. It's like Lord of the Flies, only throw in superpowers and ecological mutations. Good times.

@Cringle: Sounds bamf.

Finished Fight Club. Wish I'd read it before seeing the movie. The movie is pretty damn faithful, which makes reading the book kinda redundant.

Moving on to Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men. Another one where I watched the movie first, but I'm expecting to enjoy it nonetheless. I read The Road a bit ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

What Are You Reading? - Dr. Cringle - 01-09-2011

A book I'd recommend watching even after the movie is Jumper. The movie is more about wish fulfillment while the book is a more about growing into your powers and trying to figure out what purpose they could serve.

I've been chasing that book for a while, but it's incredibly hard to get.

Australia banned 1984 because the children. Think of them.

What Are You Reading? - Dr. Cringle - 01-09-2011

Oh that's right, Australia has some pretty stringent censorship laws, eh?
