Going in for surgery on my left thumb in five days. The doctor specified that I was just going to be slightly sedated and locally numbed. Now I have no idea what that entails. Am I going to be able to fucking watch them cut into me?

Nahh youll probally pass out from the sedation. Slight sedation is there way of saying, we aint givin you major drugs, were gonna give ya just eeeeeenough to maybe knock ya out until its over. And were gonna numb the area were working on so you wont feel it incase you do become somewhat awake.

You will probably have the chance to look, but if you look away you feel nothing but someone touching/pulling your skin in a pushy way. It wont hurt.

Mild sedation will make you feel loose and silly. The local anesthetic means that you won't feel shit when they do it. They'll probably have a drape up, but they might not. You WILL be conscious. Putting people under would be unnecessarily risky just to do your thumb.

I know. My ass surgery was much worse. On a shittier note I can't apply to UPS or make an appointment I was just offered BECAUSE I CAN LIFT PACKAGES WHEN MY THUMB IS FUCKED UP!

If you're nervous about catching a glimpse (and not a creeper like me), you can probably ask them to put a curtain between you and your hand. I know they've got that shit for C-sections, so I'm assuming they'd be able to make some sort of similar adjustment for you.

No it isn't untouchable. It just changed my outlook on things a bit. Having an artery burst less than 5 days after I had the procedure was the icing on the cake.
