How Do? (Minecraft) - Sigfried Hunin - 07-14-2011

I'm making a help thread for how to make things and the best way to get shit done. Please share your sage wisdom here for people who are dumb as shit. Like me.

Alright, first quandary: How do you power to adjacent pistons?

*How do you power horizontally adjacent pistons?

redstone?

Waffuru Wrote:redstone?

Yeah but if you put redstoen into both of them neither of them work because the redstone like, turns I guess and it's like, HURR DURR, HOW R I POWER?

How Do? - James - 07-19-2011

Neither of them activate? I believe redstone has a max conductive travel distance of 15 blocks if it's from lever/button to what ever it is being powered but what I'm gathering it sounds like that isn't the issue. A visual might help, maybe?

How Do? - Sigfried Hunin - 07-20-2011

I figured it out! Ok, basically the problem was that with a single redstone line going in the direction of the piston powered the piston. If I put a second redstone line it somehow diverted the line away from the second one. What I DID was put a repeater right next to redstone and it seemed to figure it the fuck out.

I will include pics soon!

Ingenuity!

So, is it possible to like, drain a lake? I made a glass wall surrounding a section of the water in front of my house, and I'd built a mine in the middle of it some time ago. If I open the mine up to enough water, will the water level recede or will it just flow out of where it is?

Water physics in minecraft are wonky.

There are two types of water blocks: flowing water, and water sources. Flowing water comes from a water source. Water sources are 'sitting' water, and appear to take up a whole block. Water sources can be picked up in a bucket, flowing water cannot. Water sources can be made by having flowing water collide in a certain way (too complicated to explain). This is different from lava sources and flowing lava; lava sources cannot be made.

All flowing water stems from a water source. Remove the source and you remove the flowing water (after a short delay. And assuming it doesn't bug, which it probably will, because Rule 1: Water physics are wonky).

There are two methods of getting rid of a water source: removing it (done by placing it in a bucket), or destroying it (done by placing a block, such as dirt or glass, in the space where the water source is). These are the only two ways that I'm aware of. There might be some piston weirdness I don't know about.

Chipping a hole in the bottom of a lake and having it spill into an underground area will never fill the underground area. It will just create a finite amount of flowing water.

Bah, this is gonna take way more work than I hoped. Thanks

How Do? - Jonathan Meer - 09-01-2011

Either

make glass, place glass, break glass

or

make a buncha shovels, place gravel, break gravel, get back gravel/flint

How Do? - Rafael - 09-01-2011

yeah, I think I'm gonna do that
