I pretty much can't buy that game now, which is fine since I'm not a Diablo fan. I have like, no impulse control with that kind of thing(as evidenced by owning all champs and a skin for almost all in LoL. Also: only one I bought with IP was Poppy >.>)

Lol, so true. What makes it so I'm drawn however is that I have, currently, 500,000 gold on world of warcraft. I only play the game to run the economy on the server, and that's all I've done for months.
The idea that I can do that and actually make hundreds of dollars is way to good to pass up. XD.

Ah, you're one of those guys. I do imagine a few people per server or w/e Diablo does will make a good bit. Also, epic win on Blizz for giving gold farmers the middle finger with that one.

Yeah, I think its pretty annoying that they are doing that, but... there will be people it appeals to and there's enough out there to support and encourage this kind of thing to be put into games.

See, the thing is diablo 2 already had no viable in game currency. You either used stones of jordan as currency, or you bought things with real money. It's not much different, it just makes it so it's safer for the player.

This is true. After like, ACT1 gold had no purpose. Hopefully people can't duplicate stuff in 3(Idk how people did this as I didn't really get into Diablo 2, but I hear it was pretty rampant)

I think that's cool. I mean, it's already been established that in-game currency does have an actual exchange rate. I don't like farming in games in general, and I'll be finding my own items THANK YOU VERY MUCH, but this just seems like the next logical step really.

It's also rather clever on Blizzard's end because, unless you specify in the advanced options the money stays attached to your blizzard account, so you're like "Hey, got this money, why not spend?" and every time you do, they shear of a slice for themselves.

I approve of pretty much any steps taken towards the micro-transaction business model and I think this is a very good way to incorporate it (or some facsimile of it) into a game like Diablo. I previously would have said "yeah, it would be neat, but I don't really see how you could make it work" but I'm glad they did.
EDIT: When I say "they did" I mean I'm glad they found a way to incorporate it into the game in a seemingly reasonable manner. I, of course, have no way of knowing whether or not it will work before hand. I expect it will, but that's a long cry from having definitive knowledge.

Blizzard's flying the banner of “full player control” with its auction house (as opposed to developer-driven microtransactions), but snatching away standbys like modding and, well, single-player.
To which you probably reply, “Activision!” To which we definitely reply, “Nope.” Blizzard's got two of gaming's most mind-obliteratingly gigantic cash cows in its stable. Honestly, with its entire one remaining popular franchise (Call of Duty), Activision's not in any position to be making demands. For now, then, we're just going to keep watching Blizzard and making that face dogs use when they're confused.

Unfortunate. Mods make WoW playable and Starcraft worth playing after beating the campaign and playing like 20 1v1 matches. Without Phantom Mode I'd have called SC2 a boring game
