Versatility - Jonathan Meer - 11-22-2011 For people into the ranked 5s thing, let's troubleshoot our lack of versatility and work on expanding it. Post at least three champions under each of the following categories that you're familiar enough with to play competently in serious, ranked matches. If you don't have three champions for that role, leave a space blank. Be honest, and don't round up 'general acquaintance' to 'competence'. Feel free to list a champ in more than one category, if that champ fits into more than one category (such as Udyr solo top and Udyr jungle). Champions that you are working on in a particular category, but aren't yet competent with, list in italics. The categories are: Solo Top, AP mid, Jungle, Ranged AD, and Support. For each person's blanks, it would be worthwhile for people like Mario and Tryg to suggest champs to fill that slot. Here's mine: Solo Top Udyr Gangplank Ryze Gragas AP mid Ryze Annie ---- Jungle Udyr Gangplank Nocturne (haven't tried him out since nerf) Amumu (haven't touched him in awhile, but he's pretty straightforward in jungle anyway) Ranged AD Ashe Caitlyn (close-ish to competent) Tristana Support Janna (Really bad with her) Alistar (Really bad with him) ---- Versatility - Piper Juunanagou - 11-22-2011 I think I have a lot of champs at 'leisurely decent'-level, but since this is for serious, I will spend some time dwelling on it. After some thought: Solo Top Wukong (my boy) Irelia (though I get countered hard by a lot of champs) Singed Shyvana AP mid (my bane) Morgana (used to play her a lot, but I'm out of practice) Karthus (really want to learn to play him, don't know if he'd fit into a ranked comp though) ---- (Annie? she does have that mean AoE stun) Jungle Malphite Warwick Amumu (I want to refine my Jungle Amumu, because of all that CC) Ranged AD Tristana Sivir Caitlyn (close-ish to competence) Support Soraka Janna Alistar (although I tend to go tanky Alistar than anything else) Taric Edit: I am open to any suggestions of champs that people thing I should learn based on what I seem to like. I think my main issue with League of Legends is that I just enjoy playing a variety of champs rather than any solid collection =/ Versatility - Rafael - 11-22-2011 Solo Top: As I've said many times, this is my biggest weakness, but... Yorick. Definitely my safest solo, I can hold most people back although I'm not really farming a ton Singed. - AP Mid: =D Pure, simple, def my best spot Fiddle Malz Heimer Jungle: Def shouldn't be doing this in ranked due to mediocrity, but Xin Zhao Fun, quick, reliable Jarvan: Pretty much just a weaker version of me playing Xin tbh Nocturne Ranged AD: Pretty much only play these two, but Ashe Cait Support: Def don't do this as much as I should, but I'm not too bad imo Alistar Sona - I'd def say I'm one of the people that would need to diversify though. That list is damn near 100% of who I play Versatility - John Doe - 11-22-2011 Solo Top Singed (my best) Garen Malphite Mordekaiser Shen (Saw a Shen solo top once against a Gangplank, so I'll work on it) Cho'Gath AP mid Brand Heimerdinger (my best) Karthus Jungle Xin Zhao Skarner (my best right now) Amumu Warwick Ranged AD Ashe Ezreal (my best) Corki Support Sona (my best) Soraka Taric Alistar I'm not the greatest in any category, but I'm not afraid to be in any area. Jack-of-all-trades ftl. Versatility - Trygelan - 11-22-2011 Haven't read through all of this yet, I'm just going to suggest 3 champs for each role that I think are pretty good to have in your line up over all. Solo Top Singed Yorick Nasus AP Mid Annie Brand Karthus Jungle Skarner Rammus Gangplank Ranged AD Vayne Caitlyn Tristana Support Sona Soraka Alistar These are all really good picks for their respective roles, almost able to fit into any team comp. Honestly though, don't worry about getting a specific champion for a role, there can be some flexibility in that, but do work on making sure you are competent with more than just 1 or 2 champions per role. Versatility - Mr. Zhu - 11-22-2011 Solo Top: One of my best roles, I enjoy playing Solo lanes because there's no one to get in the way of you. Keep in mind I have good knowledge on every single solo top hero, but the ones I list are the ones I play with extensively. -Pantheon: Although I tend to run him mid nowadays, he's still a force to be reckoned with at top running teleport. -Nasus: My farm machine go-to choice. Super strong. -Irelia: One of my best solo top artists. -Renekton: I can play a mean Renekton, but I'm a little out of practice with him because I simply don't play him as much as Nasus or Irelia. AP Mid: Not my favorite role, AP casters are like my Achilles heel when it comes to LoL. -Pantheon: Not an AP mid, but I find this is the best place to put him because of mobility and less room for ganks which Panths are quite susceptible to. With Pantheon I feel like I have the perfect blend of everything. The one thing that I need to work on with Pantheon is warding and last hitting because sometimes I stop farming and just get too aggressive overall. -Katarina: Plain and simple, my best AP carry. -Sion: I can play a mean Sion, always could, but since now he's considered OP I guess he's up there. -Akali -Annie: by this itallic, I mean I can't play her consistently, its either I facerape or I can't get in the zone and suck ass. Jungle: My second worst position, I have much work to be done in this position. -Pantheon: Yes, I have him on three of my positions. Wanna fight about it? -Warwick: He's the only other jungler I feel confident enough playing in a real ranked match. -Nunu: He's my pretty okay jungler, but not always viable in team comps. Ranged AD: I can play any ranged AD well, except for Ez and Kog. Sometimes though, I tend to be very streaky with my last hitting either I never miss or I miss the simplest ones and fall off. Other teams I play with simply credit it to being not enough practice because I play Pantheon too much lol. -Trist: By far my best. -Ashe: One of my best. -Caitlyn: One of my best. -Vayne: Still working out some kinks, but yeah I'm quite solid as her. Support: My best role. Weird I know, but I've been told by many platinum players that I could definitely hang with high elo as a support for sure. I've been a scrim alt for a 1.9k ~ 2k elo team and would've joined a sponsored team if I could have more time to practice. -Janna: My favorite and my best -Alistar: I'm definitely a rock solid Alistar -Taric: One of my favorites and possibly second best. -Sona: Sometimes I have really bad games with her, and sometimes I have great games. I don't know, need to work on her more. That ult is hard to land sometimes. -Soraka: I'm quite solid with Soraka, although since the "remake" I haven't really been playing her. -Supportplank: Easy concept, and usually end up doing quite well. The utility of his ult in the support role is definitely amazing. -Blitzcrank: My pulls are inconsistent but overall I can still hang with Blitz -Leona: Very out of practice with her, and out of practice means I've played her for like a week and that's it. lol. -Ashe: Been meaning to try out support Ashe, I can see how the concept would be amazing. Built in short range CV, awesome passive for zoning people out, frost arrows good for zoning people out, and great slowing utility even as a support. Who can forget though, that game-changing ultimate. My god. Versatility - Mr. Zhu - 11-22-2011 Trygelan Wrote:Haven't read through all of this yet, I'm just going to suggest 3 champs for each role that I think are pretty good to have in your line up over all. Would like to add to each role a little bit. Solo Top Renekton Galio Gangplank Cho'Gath AP Mid Cassiopeia Kassadin Kennen Jungle Trundle Nocturne Udyr Fiddlesticks Ranged AD Carry Ashe (Definitely pick her up as one of the first AD carries if you're looking to learn the role) Graves Miss Fortune (Feel like she's a sleeper) Kog'Maw Support Taric Janna(Low sustain but works with ANY ad carry) Versatility - Ashe - 11-23-2011 I'm going to fill this out, but I want to make something apparent that I'm not sure I've openly voiced recently. When I've played, a lot of my game play, for honestly close to a year now, (at least in non-ranked) has been me playing characters for enjoyment or with full intentions of improving on that character (...Shaco). The entire reason has been specifically to improve and broaden my range of character play because, nearly a year ago when we first started doing ranked, I would get into games and find my couple of characters banned (or taken) and I would be sitting there being told "Dariden, play a support" as the last picker and me being completely blank and playing a character that "is god tier" but I haven't played more than single digits (Taric long ago). I still know full well which characters I would consider my go to if I want to be serious and who I feel the most in control with, and honestly I don't play those characters all that often due to some of the fun fading from that exact experience. That said, I would say my most competent role would be AP mid and I feel that I'm fairly adept at gauging the MU there (whether it be knowing when I've been counterpicked hard, or knowing who I should pick for a situation). I've been really working on my jungling lately because that is my second preference of role but I haven't really played the characters I think I am most competent with because I feel I need to broaden my range there, as well as grow more adept at timings and paths. My third preference for a role would be solo top, which I've worked on a lot after past times where I would be told "You are going to solo top, don't feed noob" and I'd just get crushed going Malphite (as suggested) against a Poppy Ryze lane. I enjoy duoing bot the least, although I think I'm a competent enough AD Ranged, although it is weaker than my other roles by now. Versatility - Kaden - 11-23-2011 Solo Top Mordekaiser Nidalee Lee Sin Riven Nasus Gangplank Wukong Yorick Garen Xin Udyr AP Mid Cassiopeia Nidalee Karthus Kassadin Swain Ryze Gragas Jax Jungle Master Yi Xin Udyr Lee Sin Ranged AD All of them. Seriously. If anyone think I'm lacking on one of the champions, let me know, because I'm not aware of it. This is my most competitive role and if there's something I can do to keep it that way, I'd like to know. Support Janna (best support in the game, btw) Alistair Sona Swain (it's a thing, I swear) Taric Soraka --------- In case it wasn't clear, Ranged AD and top bruiser are probably my best roles. So... yeah... there's that. Really, I don't think there's a bad champion someone can learn for a given role. Just go look at the lineups from the previous MLG. People banning LeBlanc? That should say something about the balance of the game. Find a champion, for a given role, who's mechanics work for you and just master them. Soraka Taric Leona Top/jungle/mid are by far my best and most enjoyable roles, though I am getting better with ranged AD and I've been having fun with those 4 champs there (maybe not as much with tf). Versatility - Kole T. THIS GAL. Support - my best role, by far. I will love and tolerate the SHIT out of my laning partner. In no particular order (and probably forgetting some): Soraka Janna Taric Zilean Sona (but I will grumble under my breath the entire time while playing her) Supportlestix Nunu Alistar Maokai Some support that I play pure support early and hybrid into to a damagey role late game: Nidalee Karma AP Caster Lux Morgana Orianna Karth Fizz Ryze AD Carry This is the category I’m focusing on learning right now. Trist Cait Graves Vayne Corki Tankies –Not my strongest point Cho Singed Uhhhh Leona Jungle Mmmnope. I can get by with Cho/Fid/Nunu, but it’s one of those “everybody but me first” things. Versatility - Orion - 11-23-2011 Solo Top Xin Zhao Jarvan Irelia Cho'Gath Mordekaiser Nasus Udyr Urgot Janna Riven Renekton Garen Tank (I'm including this because it's one of my strongest types) Cho'Gath (pro at tank as Cho) Mordekaiser Malphite Blitzcrank (Off-tank) Maokai AP mid Malzahar Akali Anivia Karthus Kassadin Oriana Swain Zilean Jungle (My weakest area) Udyr Master Yi Warwick Ranged AD Urgot Ashe Caitlyn Miss Fortune Support Janna Taric Soraka --- My speciality is tanking/bruisers, with support and AP burst casters a tied second. Versatility - Mr. Zhu - 11-28-2011 I'm wondering in arranged 5's ranked match, who would be taking the AP mid role, because I see like 5 people maining bruisers and like no one maining APs. Let's not forget the chance for double AP top and mid comps. Versatility - Jonathan Meer - 11-28-2011 I see a bunch of people with a big AP repertoire. Versatility - Mr. Zhu - 11-28-2011 I see that too, but I don't see anyone except for Rafael that comes out and says, YO I'M GOOD AT AP CARRY AND I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD BE THERE 100% OF THE TIME. Which is what we probably need right now, because there are so many people that feel top is their best role. Versatility - Anzekay - 11-28-2011 I love AP mid, but I always end up in games where others really want to play that so I usually end up jungling or top. Or I call jungle because I feel like playing skarner Versatility - Kaden - 11-28-2011 I can AP mid pretty well. Versatility - John Doe - 11-28-2011 AP mid is where I usually went a few months ago. We are beyond covered for AP mid. What we need is more bot laners. Both AD carry and Support. Versatility - Rafael - 11-28-2011 I need to brush up on Ali some, but as for AD bot I almost exclusively Ashe. Also YO I'M GOOD AT AP CARRY AND I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD BE THERE 100% OF THE TIME |
