ME3 - Maruset - 03-06-2012

Discuss non-multiplayer ME-related stuff herr:

So, gotta say I expected the reapers to look more varied. I was kinda under the reapers were created from the DNA/fleshjuice of the races they exterminated/fought ala the human reaper at the end of ME2 and references to a Prothean reaper failing, but then you get to the attack and they all look exactly like sovereign and individual reapers are suffering from inverse ninja theory. I was kinda sad about that. I was hoping for a fairly small number of unique individuals as opposed to an army of same-looking enemies.

I will say on an unrelated note, powers being usable so much more often is awesome. Guess I'll see more of the real game after I get my ME1 shep to 60 followed by 30 in ME2...

ME3 - Pinky - 03-06-2012

eh, the franchise story never caught my fancy, so the copypasta villians never bothered me. its just so hollow and cliche and i accept that. i attribute it to the fact that the franchise shouldnt even exist and it was simply thrown together so w/e

that said, it was a mistake to preorder the game via digital download on the psn. took over seven hours to download the thing over the ps3's shitty built in wireless receiver. jebus

ME3 - Kole T. Merr - 03-08-2012

I'm playing through currently as a sentinel. What would you suggest my squad be for the most part? I'm running around with EDI and the DLC character
the Prothean
right now, but am just not sure who I need/want to have with me all the time.

ME3 - Pinky - 03-09-2012

oh man, EDI is a character in this game! imma sex a robot chick. giggity

also, this is the first high quality title in the franchise. i've never been interested in the story, only the gameplay, which i guess makes me the odd man out since most people don't like the gameplay and only like the story (explaining the new story mode that essentially lets you opt out of the combat). but everything about the game is so good now. even the loading screens are fun to watch

i mean, it's the details. in me2 you had to get down behind cover before you were allowed to jump over it. that was terrible. but now there are two options: one where you diliberately hop over a low wall, and the second where you simply run at the cover and once you go into the auto-cover animation hit the Activate button again to slide over it without stopping. so good. so gotdang good

ME3 - Sophia - 03-09-2012

Beat the game last night. Multiple spoilers are going to follow, possibly even for those who have beaten the game, assuming you don't want to know the other possible endings (I looked it up):
Of the "standard" endings, you either become the thing you spend the entire series/game fighting, or destroy EDI, the geth (you know, the race that I spent a fuckton of time trying to save), all other synthetics, the mass relays, and strand the Normandy on some jungle planet. The best ending seems to be where Shepard synthesizes himself into the Crucible and provides the possibility of organics and synthetics of living together peacefully.

None of these endings are ideal. That's probably the point, but bittersweet endings are more suited for short stories in which you are not so invested. They could have provided at least one "hero saves the day and settles down as a hero" ending. I can't begin to explain how disappointed I am. KOTOR II's ending seems decent right now.

I ended up "saving Anderson," and choosing to destroy the synthetics. Shepard survived at the end, but all the other things I mentioned above happened. From what I've read, that is one of the better endings. I didn't want to spoil myself on the other possible endings, but for the first time in the franchise, it was a question of whether or not I even wanted to play through it again.

That said, I was thinking that this was the best game I had ever played until the last two minutes. In the end, it's just that really cool roller coaster that stops suddenly at the end and cracks your ribs with the safety bar. No matter how cool the ride is, it makes me reconsider going through it again.
ME3 - Vad - 03-10-2012

I just beat it. Sophia's spoiler expando bar sums up my thoughts.
Honestly, I didn't mind the endings so much, but I really think there should be an epilogue which highlights key characters and organizations. The endings don't have enough difference between them for this being such a consequence-based game, but I can get over the endings if you just explain to me how everybody was effected.
ME3 - Josh - 03-11-2012

Pretty much this sums everything up.

Also, don't click if you haven't finished the game.

lol. DLC = editing one line in one config file. Too good

Uh, that doesn't prove anything. That only proves that the Character Model was in the game, there are many elements that go along with the from Ashes DLC, which include a new planet, various cut scenes, and dialogue relating to Javik.

ME3 - Jonathan Meer - 03-11-2012

Oh. Didn't know that. Fair enough.

ME3 - Maruset - 03-12-2012

Well, finally got my Shepard crafted and ready to rock. Can start playing SP.

ME3 - Alura - 03-12-2012

The DLC thing is just...I dunno, I think it's silly for gamers (consumers) to dictate what they are and arn't entitled to with their money. It just seems like the people that work in should get to dictate how to sell their product. If someone wants to sell pieces of an apple for 2 bucks a piece when a whole apple is 3 bucks, it's up to them.

I'm not saying it isn't exploitative, but I do think we're blowing this whole thing out of proportion. A consumer is only entitled to purchase what the seller is offering.

I just don't understand the rage. It's frustrating, sure, but I can't say I wouldn't do a similar practice in the seller's shoes.

A-nope. As far as I know, it works 100% if you change that line. Edit: Nope, after some more research, you need to exchange the .exe too, but that's it. The 500 mb you download is probably just the same files ensuring that the DLC will be playable on first go.

Also, I'm really disliking the amount of retconning in this game. Why bother having importable saves if you just remove any influence they had with no explanation whatsoever.

Editing the one line in the file only allows you to use him in your squad. If you download a 20 mb patch file then you can get his audios, but if you want his planet and the rest of his stuff like the weapon and the cut scenes you need the 600mb file.

ME3 - Tyr - 03-12-2012

True, the actual acquisition of him isn't there. I'm not sure about the sound files and I believe he's not available for chat in the Normandy (not sure about station visits), but all his written dialogue etc. is already on and the squad members if you bring him along for missions. It's still EA cutting out something of the game to sell further if it's already that integrated on the disk.

e: not sure why I used the term 100%, my bad on that one.

ME3 - Super Buu - 03-12-2012

I caved and ordered, because I am pretty much a hypocrite. YAY MARS AFFECT 3

well, the cost of producing a game has gotten out of control. it used to be something that a handful of nerds could do in a few months, and finding glitches were actually treated as part of the game (ie phasing through walls in SMB). now its a multimillion dollar venture that takes years with constant patches after retail release to fix the swarm of game-breaking bugs that are going to show up. they cant just keep selling it for a single base price anymore
