Saving Grace - Dehan - 05-19-2012 Is there any saving the rpg of Chubbs RPG? Just curious. Things seem dead, we comment oocly more often. Maybe someone lingering has an idea of how to get things rolling again. Saving Grace - Jonathan Meer - 05-19-2012 Nope. RPG's dead. People aren't writing. People haven't been writing for years now. OOC community'll probably stick around for awhile, though. There's a pretty cohesive gaming contingent in the mix now. Saving Grace - Waffuru - 05-19-2012 we quit. Saving Grace - Ashe - 05-20-2012 Its not really a discussion I want to participate in beyond what I say after this. We, as a site and community, seem to have moved more towards being people who use each other as a network for gaming or other interests. Bottom line is that the forum is here and paid for, the information is there, and yet writing does not happen. Everyone has their reasons and excuses, but it doesn't change the end point that it isn't happening. If I knew a reasonable change to make within my lifestyle that could improve that, I entirely would out of a sense of loyalty. I do not see one, so I do not plan to. Maybe this stance will change and we (the community) will find another interest to use this for. Only the future can tell. Saving Grace - Undrask - 05-20-2012 My Little Pony play-by-post. Saving Grace - Kayne - 05-21-2012 I think the option of writing should still be there, but we should also keep this OOC community. To some of us, we're the only real friends we have, so keeping it around gives us a sort of common ground to come and leave messages and keep up. As far as the roleplaying, I think we all understand what our limits should be, no god mode, etc. But I think we can all benefit from having more creative freedom by relaxing some of the rules as far as what abilities/etc we are limited to. It was nice to have as a checks and balances sort of thing when we were bigger, but I really feel it is stifling sometimes. I think that if bob wants to shoot beams of fire out of his fists but cannot because of this two abilities limit thing, then why the hell not if he isn't going to go apeshit with it, as long as a) he knows he can't just catch everyone on fire and declare himself the winner of the game (and I think we're all mature enough not to do that), and b) if it will enhance his desire to write what he wishes without those restrictions. Saving Grace - Belle Hibiki - 05-21-2012 The problem isn't really one that can be 'addressed.' Most of us agree that we like roleplaying - or would like to see more - but it doesn't seem to be #1, #2, or even #3 on most peoples' lists. Part of it is just that I'm older now. I was just starting college when I joined back in '05, still a teenager and with more creative energy than I knew what to do with. Since then I've gone through college, graduated, gotten some jobs and fallen into a lot of other projects. I just don't have as much time as I once did, and the same probably goes for a lot of people. Roleplaying and writing used to get me excited; now it just feels like obligatory work that I have to get out of the way to satisfy some inner need I have to think of myself as some kind of writer, rather than something I really desire. I've come to the realization that I'm not very good, and being a prideful person, it's hard for me to put something out there that I know is going to be inferior: especially when I have no real idea on how to improve. When given the choice between investing hours in that or playing from a slew of distracting games, it's not really a surprise to me that I've chosen the latter. Saving Grace - Alexander Trafford - 05-21-2012 That last paragraph is a tad ridiculous Belle. You've been one the best writers on this site for years, so I don't understand where that's coming from. If that's one of the reasons you're not writing anymore, then that's plain silly. I hope that's not actually how you feel. The problem is exactly the same as it has been, which Belle has already mentioned - we got older. We're not 15-16 years old anymore. At the height of our activity we were a bunch of teens with too much energy and too much free time and wild imaginations that were being channeled by video games and anime and Chubbs. Now we have jobs, and relationships, and responsibilities, etc. We don't have that energy, or the time, anymore. When I get a free two hours, do I want to write? Or would i rather watch a sports game, have a beer, and put my feet up. I'm picking the latter every day of the week and twice on Sunday. One of the things that I think could spur some minor writing activity (maybe 5-12 active members, posting once, maybe twice a week each) would be a game set in a world that we're still interested in, like Game of Thrones or something. I've said a few times we should create a mini-rpg, with a singular, large, quasi open-ended plot (like the War of the Five Kings, with the possibility of Targaryen or White-Walker invasion, etc. (I'm not saying copy this, but just an idea)) in an appealing world. This would give the world focus, but we'd keep it open enough to do your own thing in the context of that larger plot line. I could be a farmer in the north trying to collect my harvest and stave off the wolves before winter, while finding a knight to squire my eldest boy to. Maybe I could be the Lord of a small, nearly irrelevant house that serves as a Bannerman to a higher lord who's preparing for war. Maybe I could play a vicious assassin from Braavos or something, who's trying to avoid detection and escape to north of the wall. Whatever, create a mini-rpg with a world we're actually interested (not dbz), with an overarching story and enough freedom to maneuver. Saving Grace - Kayne - 05-21-2012 To be honest, there's really very few dbz elements left anyways. The very few I can think of are just some of the canon characters floating around in NPC land and the planet names. That's pretty much the extent of it. Saving Grace - Super Buu - 05-21-2012 Alex hit the nail on the head. Additionally in my personal case, I'd like to actually write a novel at some point, and it's hard to dedicate myself to that AND writing for Chubbs. There are other factors but they've been discussed to the death. What Ashe sort-of-implied is correct - there are probably things that would revive the site. But are they feasible to implement for the current staff and members in the near future? Probably not. Saving Grace - Undrask - 05-21-2012 I think we should just all post shit that we write, regardless of what its about or where it comes from, and if writers want to collab, then they can. There's not much point in having rules etc unless you feel like using them. Me and Seventeen have been writing independently and posting shit on facebook like 16 year olds lol. If we're all here anyways, might as well just post what you've got and read at your leisure. I know I wanna get back into the CDBZ universe w/ piper and vad and whoever the shit else wants to. I also wanna write about giant mecha and other crazy shit. I figure you guys might maybe read it some time, and if you don't, its not as if you are now anyways. xD I enjoy writing with you guys and we should just be able to post and reply to... whatever IMO. I mean, the hub thing is cool or whatever, but maybe we should just save the threads we have and dump em all into a common folder. Saving Grace - Alexander Trafford - 05-21-2012 Make a subforum in the Workshop called "Reading by the Fire" or some silly thing, where people can post independent writings, and people can discuss other people's ideas and such. And yeah, Kaz, this place isn't DBZ anymore, but the content needs to be shaken up again, regardless of what we have now. Edit: My User Title is Banned? Saving Grace - Android 17 - 05-21-2012 Yea, I still write on the side, and when I have the time and motivation, I still write for Chubbs (I plan to do so once the burden of classes is done for the summer, rest assured). That aside, I agree with pretty much all the stuff that the people before me have said about aging and lifestyle changes. I like this place for what is (a somewhat coherent internet community), even if it's not always what I wish it could be (the writing website of my younger days). S'life. Landslides and so forth. Saving Grace - Vad - 05-21-2012 My imagination is more powerful than the sun. As others have said I work on other projects on the side. For example I've wanted to write as a Gundam pilot or some sort of pilot a long time now. Saving Grace - Pinky - 05-21-2012 That reminds me I was working on a G Gundam RPG ruleset a few years ago called Mechworld, where Domon had become Master in the age-old circle of life plot arc. Dunno what happened to it. And a Naruto RPG called Ninjaworld, where the manga's jinchuuriki had become the new demons. I think Naruto literally *was* a ninja village via permanent mass shadow clones. Oh well. And a Psyren RPG called Psyworld. I've never been too clever with names. (Other) Alex did exactly this, minus the GoT brand. It was called Stories of Erde. No one wrote. As has been the case for months now, anyone who is interested in started a writing environment (be it a topic in the Workshop, or a larger venture with a dedicated sub-forum) is absolutely free to do so. To date, only Mario and Alex did it (and neither of those efforts, though valiant, resulted in activity). Everything being said in this thread so far is a 1-for-1 reflection of what was said before the recent hub-update. Saving Grace - Undrask - 05-22-2012 My idea was to just write whatever the fuck you feel like and post it somewhere and if people feel like collaborating they can. We don't need a hub to do that lol, we just need a place to be like, "Yo dawg, I am gonna go ahead and start a thread with 'Story Title' as its name, then I'm gonna write in it. Or not. Whaevs." EDIT: I'll just dump what I've done in the Workshop. If we decide on what's happening and it's different, we can move it. Saving Grace - Mal Nova - 05-23-2012 Oh someone posted here... I'm not done with Nova... The day I am is the day I prolly start writing here. I'll just take my time pass the top CA person then turn around and troll them till they fight me =D HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE Saving Grace - Vad - 05-26-2012 Me and Sigfried are working on a Gundam RPG located here. It hasn't gotten off the ground yet, but I'm actively working on it. So I guess we're just busy with other things, but I still plan to write for Vad. Saving Grace - Dehan - 05-27-2012 If there were more DBZ elements in the rpg I know I'd write. Not that it matters much, just hope I can get myself into writing into an anime/fictional/whatever rpg world that appeals to me. |
