All over the news. I do not know what happened to her, but I think she's braindead, right? They are trying to get the feeding tube off of her so that she may die peacefully, but the president's brother wants to have all legel control over her.

I think that they shoudl let her die peacefully, but that is just my opinion. The only opinion that should matter is the family since they are the ones who are going through this, not the governor, not no priest, not the president. I have had family members where the only reason they were living was because of a feeding tube or something else, and their wife pulled the plug, I can't blame them.Such as my grandfather was in an accident and he only survived through a pacemaker, now he may not be braindead or in a coma, but the family wishes that they never signed for him to have the operation because he was an active man now he is confined to a home and he is never going to be the same mentally either.

The problem is is she isnt brain dead. The doctors say she could recover with therapy, but the husband would never approve treatment. This isnt a kindly husband who wants his wife to die peacfully from the stories I hear about, he has complicated her recovery at every turn.

See, here is my problem. If someone is only sustained by a machine and theres no chance of recovery pull the plug... but this is a feeding tube. Shes slowly starving to death and has for a week or so now.

I dont think thats a nice death for anyone.

Terri Shivou - Tobias - 03-27-2005

Yea *puts apprectice backing on that* =/

Terri Shivou - Hellfighter 17 - 03-27-2005

May I just make a retort to what you said, GJ?

Through PM

This topic is fine. You can talk about it as long as people don't flame or throw "You f'ing moron!" around (for those that don't know the definition of flame.

Terri Shivou - Tobias - 03-27-2005

I would want to live as a vegtable if they could bring me back. I defidently wouldnt want to starve to death. Id rather they just shoot me and get it over with.

Terri Shivou - Hellfighter 17 - 03-27-2005

That's what sucks about the law, not enough loopholes. I'd say even if I had a great chance of "recovering," I still wouldn't want to be on the feeding tube. Simply because I would most lilely be dependant on my family, it would be a huge starin on them, and I wouldn't really be myself. That is just a summary, but I think it suffices.

Terri Shivou - Ruhiel - 03-27-2005

I may be an american, but I hate how stupid the american public is. They can't seem to stay away from bothering other people when it isn't their business. Not only that, but the majority of them don't have a clue how their government works.

This whole thing got me incredibly riled up, when people started rioting outside her husband's house. This is ridiculous. You have a right to petition and everything, but this is not something you do. You can voice your opinion in other ways than marching around outside someone's house and barging into their lives.

Secondly, do they not have a single CLUE what the system of checks and balances is? The Florida governor, CAN NOT INTERVENE, END OF STORY. The Executive branch is separate from the Judicial branch for a reason.
While I don't fully agree Terri Schiavo should die, and she could get better, if the courts' rulings are overturned by Congress and the Governor, the entire way our government works would be backward. Checks and balances on each branch were there for a reason, so that no one branch could become too powerful.

Sorry, been wanting to say that for a long time.

Terri Shivou - Ruhiel - 03-27-2005

Yeah, I saw that... but I just had to say it. If I didn't I think I might call in on some radio talk show or something weird like that 8o

Terri Shivou - Tobias - 03-27-2005

Honestly my ferver had been ebbing as of late, I was into in the beginning it but now... I dunno. I never met the lady. I wonder if I'll even care when I hear how it turns out.

Terri Shivou - The Not Cool Not Tapion - 03-28-2005

Husband gets the choice, that's the law, that's what should be done, 'nuff said.

But my personal feelings are, pull the plug after 5 years because they are a waste of space, or move them into your home with the equipment and a home doctor.

Terri Shivou - Burter - 03-28-2005

This is gonna sound cold, but I don't see what the big deal is.

Now I'll admit, she should be allowed to die. BUT it's really her own fault for not signing any papers about this sort of thing. Hell, I'm 21 and I already have it so Tami and my mother have the say if something like that happened, they know what they would want from me.

So, basically, whoever she gave the rights to(no one, in this case) has the say. It's their opinion.

But, if your wondering, she should be allowed to die, but legally I see nothing wrong with it. It's a matter of opinion in the people who can legally decide.

She gave the rights to her husband when she married him.

The fact that this is being made into such a big deal is ridiculous. Stupid media. And the parents trying to turn this into a breach of constitutional rights is even more freaking ridiculous.

Terri Shivou - Hellfighter 17 - 03-28-2005

The spouse doesn't necassarily get the rights when the two are married. If you are on life support, your doctor can overthrow the decision and say you stay on it. So you should have the rights signed over to who you trust and consult your doctor.

At least that's how it is here.

Terri Shivou - The Not Cool Not Tapion - 03-28-2005

The parents just want attention and are using the press to swade the views of the jury by putting the picture of her on the TV all the time. It's retarded, this shouldn't be an issue.

I can see some new amendments being suggested now.

Absolutely not. This has nothing to do, whatsoever, with constitutional rights. The parents were claiming that it was an obstruction to her freedom of religion to get it to the Supreme Court. They were laughed out of the court room. (Figuratively, of course)

Terri Shivou - Hellfighter 17 - 03-28-2005

I hate when people try to mix religion and law, the two just don't go together.

Terri Shivou - Raditzu - 03-29-2005

Religion is law. Religion brings about law and so the two are inescapably linked. Religion is what sets us apart from Neanderthal.

Not all the way, though.

Humans would have learned common since and there is actually a "natural law" that tells us, this is wrong, we shouldn't be doing it.
