Yea...lets make more impliments of war...how about a more effective cure for cancer, or just a flat out cure for some of the more deadly types of cancer. A more cost effective treatment and possible cure of the HIV virus. Continued advances in prothetics. Bascially take all the medical advances we've run across in the past 10 years or so and make them even better.

I could probably drum up more, but thats just off the top of my head.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Amadeus - 05-31-2005

Id especially like to see cures for deadly disseases, like Kami mentioned. Also, id like to see sun cells get developed to the point where it will be able to provide sufficent energy. Fuels and stuff will run our in about 100 years so its advisable they start researching on new resources as fast as possible.

Thats off my head, but I will say if I can think of any more.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Krillin - 05-31-2005

Lightsabers would be completely useless in real combat. First off, it calls attention to you, and that's not a good thing in war. Second off, you'd get gunned down in seconds. As cool as lightsabers are, they wouldn't be practical.

Plus, as far as I know, they are physically impossible. The only thing that comes to mind is a laser, and how are we going to stop the beam from extending indefinitely and, more important, how the hell would we make it powerful enough to be stored in a tiny little tube?

On a side note, someone said that with medical advances and all, our generation's life expectancy will be 125. I don't have confirmed evidence on that, it's just word-of-mouth.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Kami - 05-31-2005

Lightsaber : Jedi
Samurai Sword : Samurai

Jedi are loosely based on Samurai, and that whole era of honorable battle has been ushered out...much like it was in the movie.

Back to the topic!

*flies away*

I'd liek to se ethe downfall of teh gaming industry (pretty damn useless in all actuality) then all advances go towards the medical industry and the developments of the hydrogen-fueled car.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - The Not Cool Not Tapion - 05-31-2005

I've heard numerous times already that doctors do have a cure for cancer but to keep their jobs and keep getting paid, they wont give it out.

I wanna see military advances.

Why?

Because as the Military advances, each opposing contry advances in the opposite & same feild. So Military will link to Medical (by making cures to some sorta screwed up chemical weapon), which can also link up to transport methods (how to usher the chemical quickly & also how to cure it) & also advance in to space travel as each contry (eg America) keeps trying to dominate the whole world.

So really, if we all focus our advancement's on to one single aspect, the others will all come along with it. Regardless if you chosoe to focus on medical or what ever, the other side effects would be deploying some form of the technology developed in to another aspect.

Medical would lead to military masterminds trying to fuck up the enviroment some more. Enviromentals would try to make more safer methods of fuel consumption & such. Car maker's would use that technology to develop new methods of transport.

It goes on endlessly in a loop if ya think about it..

1) I want to see a reversion of electric powerplants in automobiles. Kind of like an internal combustion engine that doesn't damage the environment? That'd be cool. Electric motors suck.

2) I want us to slow down-or even backtrack-our military capabilities. We should not have the power to obliterate entire planets. Not even once, let alone the hundreds of times over the US alone is capable of.

3) We need medical advancements. Badly. =\

4) I should get money. Lots of it. For no reason.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Bra - 06-01-2005

-_-

Okay. You take a lightsaber. Give me a gun. Even an old-fashioned one. Hell, a revolver. Okay, now let's fight.

*Bang*

Well... that was a waste of billions of dollars invested into the lightsaber project, huh?

In other words, even though they may be cool, they're about as useful as a pair of scissors made of jell-o.

I think Krillin explained the lack of necessity of a blade made of light earlier on.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Toshiro - 06-01-2005

Lightsabers aren't jsut technology..

You gotta find a crystal which allows light to emit though it at a solid rate, a focsing lense to focus that light in to a laser & sort of compact its length. You gotta get a battery system which even in SW times it took about a millina to develope. I can show you the original saber design if ya want? Also, you gotta think about finding those crystal's, doubt you can find 'em on Earth. Also, the other componant's that go in to making a saber as we all know it is very complex, to match it, we'd have to as advanced as Croucsant is to even begin making them as we all know 'em.

So Pikkon, shut up with saber's before you got pwned by one.

PROTOSABERS was used by ancient Jedi & Sith.
This unit comprised of a separate hip power pack, power line and saber hilt. Some of the unique features of this lightsaber is that they were typically carved from duranium. Making this a truly hand crafted weapon of the Jedi or Sith. The crystals used for these were also very crude and typically exposed.

I think that would be as close as we could ever get with out understnading the full copacity of the force &U other SW aspect's..

If we keep developing cures and technological solutions to our physical ailments won't they grow more an more apparent and increase our dependency on our technology?

For example, people with bad eyesight would probably be killed off because of something they didn't see or see clearly enough. Now with glasses do you think there is probably 10x-100x as many people who need glasses than before glasses were invented? Perhaps the cure is not a solution but a patch. That we have to keep applying to every generation. Course simply letting people with ailments die sounds too harsh too do but its something to think about. Is modern medicine actually hurting us more than it is helping us?
I get what your saying. Natural selection in a nutshell, really. I'm all for Darwinism (sp?) at times, which includes this. There are only giraffes with long necks 'cause the ones with short necks died off. Though, diversity may be a good thing, at times, it can also hold us back. Sure, if I went blind, I would fucking hate the world for not wnating to help me, but that's just natural selection. We humans think that we are such perfect beings, yet multiple people die every second. And even though that is happening, we cannot even space ourselves out properly, that's why people think the world is "over-crowded," 'cause we do not use up our resources as we should. Though, there is such a thing as conservation, there is also such a thing as a waste, which we do all the time.

Natural selection is just the way to being perfect, and some may say that being perfect would be horrible because everybody would be perfect and that the world would suck, but then you are not focusing on the true picture, you are focusing on the fact that humans do not get along now and yet we claim to be superior than all and that we have reached our limits, when I would say ants kick our ass. I'm not syaing all think like that, but on average.

Quote:I whole heartedly believe that we only use like 10% of our mental capacity/power and would like to push it further and see what we can do.

http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/10percnt.htm

Kid Buu, you are wholeheartedly wrong. Now I think there is evidence for the 20 or 30 percent of our physical power thing, but not mental.

Turles, a skilled sword master wouldn't be able to block crap. You can not feasibly block bullets with a sword. You just can't move fast enough. Perhaps you actually get lucky and manage to nick one...now what? No idiot is going to fight with a single bullet (unless, of course, you're Jack Sparrow).]

Janemba, the handle on that light saber is awesome, though the blade looks like it has the thickness of a Twizzler. I want more meat on the rod if I'm taking on bad guys, if you catch my drift. Big Grin

Pikkon, if you want something with the cutting power of the lightsaber, and ten times as much coolness, just get yourself a katana. A real one.

And Bra, that was a perfect example of why lightsabers suck. *bows*

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - The Not Cool Not Tapion - 06-01-2005

Krillen...do you know what a katana is? It's a sword, made of folded steel but a longer sword. Just because of it's size doesn't mean it is better than a lightsaber. I don't see katanas going through three feet of steel. o_o

But what's that? A lightsaber is burning through the door and cutting holes in walls.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Burter - 06-01-2005

STOP WITH THE STAR WARS TALK!

=(!

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - The Not Cool Not Tapion - 06-01-2005

Star Wars > You.

Plus, you need force power to make a lightsaber work.

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - The Not Cool Not Tapion - 06-01-2005

That would mean:

Star Wars>Pan

Everbody>Pan

And if Everbody>Pan then

Tapion>Pan

^_^

kdk,,v so ff !!!!! - Ruhiel - 06-01-2005

*agrees with Burter*

We've cleared the idea: Lightsabers=bad. Some idiots blew themselves up in my city recently by trying to build their own. They used some quartz crystals in their backyard, a flamethrower nozzle (don't ask me how they got 'em), and a metal container that looked like a lightsaber. Then, they filled the interior up with engine-grade fuel. They turn 'em on, and the hole place goes BOOM.

Anyways, just to let you all know, there HAS been a cure for several cancers developed. I read it in a Popular Science magazine (I use it to write current events for my science class). It turns out, the cure for a few types was done exactly the way I thought a cure could come about. They use a virus. By biologically engineering the virus to attack cancerous cells, it will leave all other body cells alone, and go directly after the problem, without having the problem of losing your hair. It attaches itself to the cancer cell, and injects its DNA. In a period of time, the cancer cells ruptures, and dies, releasing more viruses to attack other cancer cells. This has proven effective on a few types of cancer when they tested it, and they are hopeful that it may be able to work on many other types. However, there is much more safety testing to be done before it can be released, as they don't want an unstoppable virus that is communicable to be let loose if they slipped up on something. It should be done within a few years.
(Note all this is just recalling from memory, but I think I pretty much hit on it)

What I want to see in the future:
-Incapacitating weapons. While killing your enemy definitely stops the problem for good, we still don't need that many deaths. They have already invented some "pain rays" which jolt the enemy with something that causes enough pain to knock them unconcious, but not cause permanent damage. This could greatly reduce the death toll of wars, if they are adapted enough and actually put into use. But, I have a feeling it will end up being used for police containment squads more than anything.
-Instantaneous Transportation. Duh. If we can get rid of cars altogether, so the more for it. I believe it is completely possible for something like this, but I doubt it may appear in my lifetime.
-Hydrogen fuel systems. Gah, I hate oil. If we can switch to the most abundant element known to mankind, then we could greatly reduce costs each year. I hear Iceland already has 2 hydrogen fueling stations Smile)
-A way to unlock the mental abilities we aren't using. Humans only use 10% for thinking and doing non sub-concious things. The sub-concious (heart beating, breathing, etc.) takes up something like 45%, but what's happening with the rest of the brain? There's got to be a way to use that somehow.

Meh, I think that's all I got.

But what about the monster that you would unleash upon the world?!

Why not just have a machine which can store all of the knowledge of all human beings, 'cause then we would practically have the knowedge to do anything, 'cause many people just do not work together.

Now I'm gonna go off and find the relationship between the Pythagorean theorem and interior angles. It can be done!
