Mebbe you can help? - Bra - 09-27-2005

Hokay, so I just brought home my brother's car today. (The transfer of ownership finally went through)

I'm doing a pretty basic maintenance check on the car right now, y'know, oil, coolant, etc. But I ran into a problem. I can't find the damn transmission fluid location.

The car is similar to mine, so I checked around where my clutch fluid is located, but no luck. I swear the thing isn't in the engine bay. ^_^;;

It's a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.4 liter twin cam. Not a Sunfire GT, though I very much doubt it makes any difference.

I got my dad out there right now, but he can't find the damn thing either. So... if you own a Sunfire with the same engine and an automatic transmission, please, any enlightenment would be pretty snazzy.

(I guarantee it's gonna be painfully obvious and whoever has the answer's gonna make fun of me... =\)

So, I went through the owner's manual for my car a couple days back, since my brother's and mine share engine configurations. (They both have either 2.2 or 2.4 liter inline-4's)

Now, I read something absurdly stupid, but completely true: The 2.4 liter engine with automatic transaxle doesn't have a transmission fluid access. The manual claims it doesn't have to be changed/looked at unless a leak is detected, which I find to be utter bullshit, since my car's a manual (which actually doesn't have to be changed for approximately forever - well, in excess of 250,000 kilometers, anyway) and is easily accessible in the engine bay. Automatics are inherently more susceptible to wear and tear, and they're claiming that we don't need to even know how much fucking transmission fluid is in the transaxle!?

Anyway, the manual claims that we can get it checked at a dealer. Yeah, totally. Checking the level of my transmission fluid is so totally worth the 50+ dollars it'd cost for them to work for roughly two minutes.

Anyway, thanks go out to Trunks and Janemba, for at least offering some form of suggestion. I'm honestly very surprised to see that they would have gone with such an idea, but... whatever. No sense getting worked up over a rather minor... oversight.

Thanks for reading my little rant! ^_^;;
