Ok, I dunno what the hell to do...
I get paid end of the month/start of the month (next week basicly), and I'm stuck on two things to do...
First, is buy computer upgrades, and then buy some online games like WoW and GW..
The other is to get the 360.
The only problem here, is that the 360 costs less then the upgrades, but I lack abit of needed info as to weather or not it plays the old games or not.
And as for the upgrades, well they'll chrew threw the best part of all my wages -.-''
Any of you actully wanna give me straight forward opinions on what to do? Or give me the info on the 360?

I heard a LOT of 360's are crashing, if I were you I'd wait a few months before buying it. They rushed it.

If you're thinking of the Core system, don't.
Personally I would go for the computer upgrades. That's mainly because I think the 360 is going to be outclassed when the PS3 and Revolution come out. You'll have about a year of glory, then your $400 (I have no idea how much it is in the UK) console is behind the times. As well as the fact that Revolution will probably be ?200 or less. Ah crap, my fanboyism is showing.
Anyway, you use your computer all the time, you'll notice 'em more. And if you get some online games you can play with us.
My opinions, heed them at your own peril.
Edit: I'm pretty sure 360 is backwards compatible. And I don't know about the crashing thing, but 18 is right about them rushing it out. They wanted it out in time for Christmas - that's the reason for the shortages and the screwups. Marketing.

Slug, I think most people would agree that the PS2 pretty much creamed everything in the last console war. Xbox and GameCube were roughly equal, but neither came near to the PS2 in terms of consoles sold.
In my eyes, PS3 and Xbox 360 are just upgrades of their predecessors, with online functionality. Xbox got the online system down in the last generation, but PS3 is sticking with the fiddly system they had last generation, meaning you meet hardly anyone online unless the game is popular/brand new. Revolution has everything the GameCube had, but it's also adding in the new controller. Having a 'real' sword fight with someone online, manipulating the controller and having your in-game avatar do exactly the same thing is now a possibility. If you prefer old-style controllers, they're coming out with one of them, just with the added movement thing. And it's ditching the old style of online console gaming for the polished, 'all games under one roof' thing that Xbox proved to work the best last generation. PS3 will probably still sell the most though, because it's a name that people/parents know.
Basically what I'm saying is, the hype over the 360 is only there because the other consoles have yet to come out. In a year's time, people will be looking back at the 360 like a better-funded Dreamcast. So forget it and upgrade your PC

Seriously. Since it's owned by Microsoft you can bet in about two or so years that all of their games will eventually become availble on the computer, it's such a waste of money to buy the system. And besides, the next shipment of 360's aren't schedule till sometime in Feburary as I understand it.
Go with the computer, you'll use it a lot more.

Well.. The stuff I need for the PC is as follows.
New graphics card. (Thinking of maybe a GeForce 6)
New HDD (250 Gig)
New RAM cards (debating on two of the new 1GB cards)
New processor.
Thats all gonna cost me soem where betwen 500 and 600 pounds ;.;

IMO, anything over a gig of ram at the moment is unnecessary. When you get to 2 gigs you're going on pure overkill. I play WoW on my laptop with 512 RAM, I can go to battlegrounds and it still plays extremely well. Though I wouldn't say no to another 512.
Hunt around and you can get a kickass computer for far less than ?500.

The advantage is, I'm not working at the moment due to an op I had, so when it's realesed here (next Friday) I'm still off, so I can easily nip down the sotre and grab one before all the freckled school brats get out.
And yeah, I'm leaning more towards the PC upgrades now aswell.... Or just getting my own PC for my room >.>

If you customise it, take away some of the insurance crap, you could probably get one of those in your price range whilst still having a gig of ram and a 3ghz processor. Just something I found in a jiffy
