You'll probably do best solo when it comes to mid-to-late game if you choose to use the "search and destroy" strategy. For the earlier stages, a two or three person alliance would be smart, but not nessecary for you.

With your writing ability, you could take it solo or with a group. Watch the length of your roleplays and try not to ramble or you could lose my attention. You have a knack for making me root for your character and see what else happens to him, so come up with creative ideas around the island to tie into your writing.
You'll probably be best with one partner, but it won't matter terribly if you keep up the quality roleplays I've come to expect from you

Going with CU will help great IC, but the biggest problem with roaming with an alliance is you risk being over-shadowed by the other roleplayers in the group. If you can stand out and make reason for me to keep you over them, then that problem is solved.
You'd be stupid to stick with excellent roleplayers like CU for the entire game, unless you really don't mind losing.
