This is a question and answer stage. The members will ask you questions and discuss things with you. Answer as truthfully and well as you possibly can. This stage will have a huge effect on selecting the winner of the game and who will join staff ranks.

Please keep things mature and on topic. Any spam questions that have no value to the selection of a staff member will result in a warning.

What qualities do you think a saga should have?

The one thing which will make or break a saga is activity. If you don't have the member's help, it's going to crumble, so you have to keep people posting one way or another. Honestly, a lot of that can come from hype - the promise of excitement, deaths, rewards, etc. But that soon wears off, and if a saga doesn't have what it takes to keep people interested, it becomes obvious very quickly.

For the most part, you have to give people almost constant rapport that they're being listened to, and their actions are having an effect. For a storyline saga, if you leave people to post and make up storylines for themselves, all you're doing is limiting what they could be otherwise doing in a personal roleplay. But at the same time, you need to have some flexibility in your story. If the members can't affect the course of the saga whatsoever, then it becomes boring for them since they're basically reading a story and not taking part.

It has to be unique. Some things get boring after they've been done o-so-many times. If nothing else, new ideas get people's attention. And you need a good number of people to have a good saga. And once they're in, you need to keep them interested however you can. As I said before, flexibility is key. A good example is the end of DA06. BJ didn't let it get to the stage where things got dull. Before that happened, he threw a spanner in the works and forced people to start killing each other. Then he brought the survivors together before it could become a waiting-fest.

I don't know if I'm supposed to wait until the previous question has been answered, so yeah...

How should a staff member act towards fellow staffers on public forums?

Chubbs Idol Finals Q&A - MEMBERS - Jinpo - 09-21-2006

I'm not trying to be cocky with this question but:

Do you think you give as much effort as I did in the competition? If so, elaborate. If not, say why you should still be the Chubbs Idol.

and also:

If a new person is getting on your nerves by pestering you with questions and you have already told them the proper procedure and they still won't leave you alone, what would you do?

Chubbs Idol Finals Q&A - MEMBERS - Dantes - 09-21-2006

Can you honestly say that you will grade/answer/help/discipline... etc fairly between new members, old members, popular members, unpopular members?

Do you plan on being as active moderating as you possibly can be, not just sitting around and doing something mod wise... like once every two weeks?

In the asylum, just chatting and the like, however you'd normally treat them. I wouldn't hold back on my opinion if I ever disagreed with someone, just because they were staff, though if it got to the stage where it was just me and one other person bitching at each other, I'd take it to PM. I don't think I've ever actually gotten in a real 'fight' with another member though, staff or not, that was on the forums. Unless you count pointing out where people are wrong.

But yeah, I digress. On QSU, dealing with staff issues and the like, it would be the same way I'd deal with a member, regardless of my own personal opinion of them; neutral. If you're trying to work something out in a mature manner, like what the rulings are on a certain item/technique/whatever that happens to be ambiguous on the site, then I wouldn't see any reason to change that. If it ever got personal, I'd take it to PMs, but yeah ...

Do you think it's approppriate to criticise a fellow staff member publicly if a ruling exists that you completely disagree with?

Also, how much time should you dedicate to doing your job?

I reckon so. There were some tasks which you obviously spent a lot of time on, for example the saga-making task from Heffers. Like I mentioned in the semi-final task (though that particular description didn't make it to the public Sad) I was jealous of some people, because I never got a 'creative' task in terms of sagas/techniques/content and the like. Mine were pretty dry by comparison, and I couldn't really elaborate on them much, I just had to do exactly what I was asked to do. So in some ways, you probably did more than me, because I wasn't given the opportunity. Not being a whiny bitch here, that's just how the dice fell, 'cause of the random grouping stuff.

Depends. If they're PMing/IMing me with questions/updates which the whole staff could answer, I'd tell them it would be a lot easier to go to the QSU board. And if they ignored my advice, I'd just block them, forcing them to actually use the forum like they're supposed to.

You don't think your job would entail helping members through the PM system? You'll find that if you're an active moderator, a multitude of members will be using the PM system for specific questions, advice on certain protocol, and etc. Granted, the QSU board is there for a reason. Still, my question stands.

Not to be arrogant (since that's a very to-the-point question Tongue), but yes. I think I've proved myself capable of dealing with things in a rational manner.

I visit this forum every day - my basic reason for being a mod is that, since I'm here most of the time anyway, I may as well help out. Wink Unless something significant happens that means I can't use the internet, I'd say that's not going to change anytime soon.

Heffers said he'd unlock OldFrieza's account, and then he posted in the Warning forum that he'd locked it. I noticed that earlier. Wtf?

That and Raditsu' post about OOC characters is that they do not get warnings for offenses, but banned for a certain period of time. But you will notice that HF also put a warning in there.

Not to mention the other various warnings for other OOC only characters.

Not appropriate. Rules are there for a reason - if I disagreed with one in particular, I'd talk to the rest of the staff in the staff forum about changing it. It wouldn't make sense to just disagree in public when a rule is already set in stone.

Quote:Also, how much time should you dedicate to doing your job?
'Should' never really occured to me. The standards for that are usually set by who dedicates the most time, and those people tend to end up staff. But on a less vague note: eh ... at least an hour a week. More if possible.

Aye, I know. I've been staff before (not on Chubbs), and I'm used to getting lots of PMs/IMs. Most of the time, I'll do whatever people asked of me, and then say "ok, but next time, just post it on the QSU/whatever". And most of the time, those people learn and listen. Cargo was describing someone that was being ignorant and incessant - in other words, they won't listen to what you're saying. Like I said, most people do have a capacity for learning, but from time to time you get a few individuals who are completely and utterly obstinate in their ignorance. In which case, you pretty much have no choice but to teach them the rules the hard way.

Sounds good.

To expand on my second question concerning time spent working as a moderator:
What does the 72 hour rule set mean to you?

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but really I see it as just a way of taking a strain off staffers. It's a method of flood control, and encourages the members to practice patience. That's pretty much it. Tongue

(Not sure if I should be posting here... I know it's for Chubbs idol, but do we need permission to ask quetions? If we do, just shoot me or something XD)

Idols, how do you feel about the situation between Alexs and Chubbs. What do you think we can do to stop the rivalry?

OR (If that's not appropriate)

What do you think makes an active staffer/member?

Such as... what is being active to you?

What qualities do you think a saga should have?

A saga, first and foremost, should be fun and enjoyable. If it's not fun, what's the point? People's definition of "fun" varies, so you need to strike some sort of balance to please the majority of participants. For example, some people prefer story-driven sagas, while others like competition-type sagas. While you're not going to please everybody, fun should be most important.

Another thing a saga should have is elements that make it unique. While certain general premises are used (e.g., war), there has to be something that makes it different from the rest, because nobody likes repetition.

It has to be inclusive. Everybody wants to play a part, so there needs to be a role for everyone.

I don't believe that just because you're staff means you have to treat them much different in public. If you're friends, you can still be buds. If you don't get along, just leave each other alone. If there's a staff-specific issue you disagree upon, it's like not bringing OOC issues to IC.

A. Do you think you give as much effort as I did in the competition? If so, elaborate. If not, say why you should still be in Chubbs Idol.

B. If a new person is getting on your nerves by pestering you with questions and you have already told them the proper procedure and they still won?t leave you alone, what would you do?

A. I believe I did give as much effort as you. I produced products in the pre-lims that required time and thought, and I participated in the team tasks. I took to my duties as best I could in the finals, getting to whoever needed help who hadn't been helped previously.

B. You have to take this in steps. If they are persistenly asking questions and I have already explained procedure, then I would firmly assert myself: I am the authority, these are the procedures that are followed by everyone, and that is final. I would have made sure that other staff have reiterated this, and that our word is not going to change. If they still persisted after this point, a verbal warning would be in order. If they still persisted, they would get an official warning. For additional warnings, the severity of punishment would increase and fit the problem. On the very verge of a permanent ban, they would be on a probation that if violated, would result in an indefinite removal from the RPG. Throughout these steps, there would be discussion time away from the board in an attempt to get to the root of the problem and hopefully solve it without having to use warnings or bans.

B. Do you plan on being as active moderating as you possibly can be, not just sitting around and doing something mod wise?like once every two weeks?

A. As for grading, answering, and helping, I would go about this based on time, working my way to the end by starting at the earliest post date. I have used this procedure when giving C&C in RPG Discussion. As for discipline, I don't see the tags you gave (new, old, popular, unpopular). I also cannot say I would discipline everyone the same. This is not to say I would be more lenient or harder on certain people, but you cannot discipline people the same. What may work for one person (warnings) may not be effective for someone who didn't care that they got warned. I'll use Kirano as an example. Kirano didn't care about being warned, so a good punishment was banning him from the asylum. It fit him better specifically, since he was a spam-freak who just kept persisting.

B. I spend as much of my remaining free time here as I can. I know activity is a big issue people would have with me becoming staff, and I have worked on that, even if it doesn't show. All I can say is that I would try my best to be active, which is all I can give.

B. Also, how much time should you dedicate to doing your job? What does the 72-hour rule set mean to you?

A. No, I don't. Criticism will usually lead up to an argument or passive-aggressive shots at each other, so it is best to settle it in PM, IM, or the staff boards. The public boards aren't really the kind of place for that. I believe it undermines both your authorities by creating a discrepancy. It's like listening to your parents argue about what's best for you (or them). Staff are human just like the rest of us, but they are also supposed to be model members of Chubbs, the example set to everyone else.

B. You should dedicate as much time to your job as needed to get it done, or as much time as you can possibly afford. That isn't to say you can't or shouldn't donate more, but whatever will suffice for a job well done. The 72-hour rule is, to me, in place so impatient people can't just bump-bump-bump like crazy. Some people in the join forum do it on an hourly basis, which is absolutely ridiculous. Staff understand that people require updating/answering/help/etcetera, but there is only so much they can do in a day, or even two days. Supes said it's like flood control, and I have to agree with him.

I have no problem answering this question. First of all, I don't think this is a rivalry by any means. The whole thing started very unintentionally, but once it began to escalate and people took it to a personal level, things got way out of hand. I'll just leave it at that.

The best thing we can do is take things very slowly, and try to put what has happened behind us. I believe every day that goes by when there isn't any negative tension between the two places, it's taking a step for the better. That means no insulting, flaming, spamming, or anything. Basically, the best thing we can do is try to forget this whole thing ever happened and reduce as much contact as possible so as not to stir up any bad feelings. A few people seem bent on perpetuating the problem, and they must be dealt with accordingly. One of them already has been.

I for one believe we have all made excellent progress on this.

Chubbs Idol Finals Q&A - MEMBERS - Broli - 09-21-2006

When I asked the 72 rule question (in terms of waiting 72 hours for updates; I apologize for wording it so confusingly), I was looking to see if there was any intent of abuse. In other words, I wanted to see if the Chubbs Idols would look at it as flood control, or as "Sweet, I still have 2 more days before I have to update this guy's thread." Both SB and Bardock seem to have a firm grip on the purpose of this rule set.

In terms of how much work a staffer should do, I think Bardock hit the nail on the head. When I asked, "How much time should you dedicate to doing your job?" Bardock pretty much said the exact answer I was thinking - as much time is necessary. A lot of people look at staff as a role of prestige, and while the job certaintly does hold that prestige, it also carries an obligation to serve the members (whereas a multitude of members, including myself, have been unappreciative in that factor). And really, you'll find that the difference between Super Mods and Mods is that the SMs are the people who have devoted the most time to serving Chubbs.

You guys both seem to share the same view on inter-staff disputes, which I also agree with for the exact reasons mentioned.

That's it from me; I'm out of questions. You guys both seem to have a handle on what it takes to be a staff member, and I know that whoever the winner is, nothing but improvement is left to come.

Still, a competition is a competition. My vote's for Bardock.

What do you think is the most important part of the job?

What do you think the jobs of the other staff (Super Mods, Admins) should include?
