Help meh - Tapion - 01-03-2007

I'll start this off by letting everyone know that I've never owned, or for that matter, even listened to an I pod before, I've never even felt the slightest desire to own one, until today. Earlier my friend was talking about how annoying it was when he was putting stuff on his cusion's new video I pod and for some reason even though he was talking about how much he hated it and how much of a pain in the ass it was I became intrigued and now I'm highly considering buying myself a video I pod, but solely for the video capabilities.

After a little while of thinking I told a few of my other friends and basically none of them were of any help because they all gave me completely different suggestions, one friend said to get a I pod, another told me I pods suck and to get a Zune, and another told me I should just buy a 30something gig memory upgrade for my PSP(which broke about 3 weeks after I got it, it doesn't play games at all, but everything else works fine). So uhh...I'm technologically retarded...please help me, which should I get?

My personal opinion, buy a USED PSP(mine is used), and get a nice memory stick for it. Take care of it. I've had mine forever, and only did it mess up(because of something I did). Untill then it was great.

Plus, there is so much more you can do with a PSP.

Ipods are great, but I like my PSP better, even if the battery life is shit.

PSPs are gay, and inferior to DSs, which outsold the PSP.

Get an iPod. Period. Do I really need to give you a reason?

It looks sexy.
It recharges.
It holds hella songs.
You'll never want another MP3 Player again.

I'm talking about the Nano btw. If you get it, get the 8GB one. Actually, get anything that's 2GBs or higher.

Help meh - Jewtastic - 01-03-2007

Um last I checked PSP recharges as well.

Go iPod Video. Sure, the thing's got a huge amount of memory, but if you want it only for video, that space will be necessary. I recently got one myself to replace my old broken G3 iPod, and I find it to be pretty nice. I've heard good things about the Zune, but I don't own one, nor do I know anyone who owns one. The PSP... *shakes head*. Not for videos only, because the quality isn't very good, and it'd be a waste of money buying something not specifically intended for videos alone. EDIT: Ah, you've already got a PSP. Then do whatever you want.

I own a Video Ipod as you already know, and i defintately suggest it. Getting video's is a little tricky, but you can upload them right from google and illegaly download them off limewire or something using the Mov. or Mp4 video files only.

but... they are the shit for sure.

Though I hope you don't expect to get a lot of battery life out of video... I have the 60gb video, and it's fucking awesome, as stated. Though you can watch a video for maybe 6 hours max with a full charge.

I own a Nano, as Baron said, you won't want any other MP3 again. Seriously, iPod is the way of the future :o

iPod video:

Pros: Surprisingly good resolution and detail, great audio support (obviously), great library available from iTunes.

Cons: Currently illegal to decode DVDs that you have bought, and upload them to your iPod. That's right. They're your DVDs, it's your iPod, but you aren't allowed to put those DVDs onto your iPod. Also, it's quite expensive to buy movies from iTunes (though still not as high as buying a DVD straight from the store). Why would you want to pay twenty dollars for a brand-new movie at Wal-Mart for home viewing, then pay another fifteen dollars to put it on your iPod? It gets a bit expensive. Also, as MK stated, the battery life is not incredible for movie viewing. You're looking at maybe eight hours tops, if the current generation has improved over the latest 30Gig/60Gig generation. I'm thinking it hasn't (in which case, you get six hours), but I could be wrong.

PSP is the way to go. If it broke three weeks after you got it, then warranty would still apply and you can/could get it fixed. You can convert any video files to work on your PSP for free. Battery life for the PSP is really quite good, they even make these awesome handles (that look like a PS2 controller) that your PSP snaps into and gives an extra 8hrs of battery life.

They make up to a 4gb card for PSP, but you can also run a harddrive attachment with it but that's not really worth it and not supported by Sony. I have a 1gb card and in the PSP's format I can fit a decent amount of video... probably ~90 minutes.

Yo go we the I pod man. I got a Nano myself and i find it very easy to use, charge, and carry. It also draws the ladies Wink. Nah but Seriously get the pod, if its the video you want go for it

Help meh - Saz - 01-04-2007

I say get a 4gb memory stick (I think 4gbs is the highest available). Music files only take up about 3 mb so you can get a good few songs on there, plus like other people have mentioned you can do so much more with a Psp.

I've got a Zune. I don't have any problems with it other than a problem with my actual computer right now that's blocking it from syncing now. It still recharges off the USB when plugged into a computer. I like it. I've seen people go through three iPods in a years or less without actually doing anything to break them

I have never, ever heard of anything like that. Apple has a great warranty, is consistently high in manufacturing quality, and has said multiple times that these things are meant to last. Everyone I know who has an iPod, and doesn't, like, throw it against a wall, is very pleased with its performance through the years.

Same. They're number 1 mp3 players because they're the best. Plain and simple. Anytime I've heard of/seen a dead ipod it was from abuse.

Help meh - Aqua - 01-04-2007

I actually had a creative mp3 for a while. That was a POS and it stopped charging for some reason after a few months. I got an iPod nano for x-mas so we'll see how that goes.

Help meh - Mowgli - 01-04-2007

yeah...I bought my gf a Zune, but I don't have a mp3 player ;(.

All I need is a memory stick and my phone can hold em for me tho so..I guess I do.

Probably a piss-poor stock battery.
