Help, Computer Nerds! - Hellfighter 17 - 01-05-2007 My computers been slowing down a lot lately. Any advice on a free way to do this would be appreciated. Also, no, I do not look up pornography. Help, Computer Nerds! - Dehan - 01-05-2007 ccleaner, try that free microsoft spy/malware remover, and it also defrags your harddrive or somethign to make it run a bit faster. That's all I got. Help, Computer Nerds! - Raz - 01-05-2007 Also Confusion Did what Waff suggest be enough to play B&W2!? At this point the discs'll either be the source of most my time playing or very pretty drink coasters. Help, Computer Nerds! - Hellfighter 17 - 01-05-2007 My computer's actually supposed to be pretty good, and was running fine until just a couple of days ago. Help, Computer Nerds! - King Cold444 - 01-05-2007 Yeah. A good spyware removal program would be the best bet. And if you could find a Corporate version of either symantec or norton anti-virus (or both) then that should be installed (if you haven't already) after you pull genocide on the spyware. Or it could be the memory. Help, Computer Nerds! - Dehan - 01-05-2007 got any teens in the house just hitting puberty? that's how my computer got a case of spy and malware...cousin just turned 13 and he's learnt the many pleasures of porn...*sigh* logged on one day to see some stuff I didn't know about...stuff I didn't want to know about .*shivers* try ccleaner first. Help, Computer Nerds! - Mowgli - 01-05-2007 What I usually do is get rid of old pics/songs etc. that I don't need anymore, then defragment the disk drive, cleanup the disk drive, then use Ad-Aware and Defender and I'm good for a while. Currently 84% of my memory is free so... I have no problems over here. Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 As Turles said, Crap Cleaner is your best bet for Spyware...as with Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster. If you need an anti virus NOD32 is going to be the top of the line. However figuring out NOD32 is a pain in the ass. So go with Crap Cleaner (CCleaner) and that should help ya out. Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 1) where do you buy RAM that its 200? 2) a new Processor would require a new motherboard...so thats out of the question. 3) Harddrive...I doubt he would get anything other then a 7200 so once again, not really speeding things up. Oh, and CCleaner works better then HiJackThis and S&D Help, Computer Nerds! - Jewtastic - 01-05-2007 I doubt HF knows his specs as of right now, but really, if you are going to get a new chip at this point you should upgrade to at least a 64 bit or even a Duel Core. Meaning, if he doesn't have a socket 754, 939, or AM2 he would need a new one. Really to get anything less then a 64 bit 3000+ would just be silly. Help, Computer Nerds! - Krillin - 01-05-2007 I've got the sudden urge to jump into the conversation and spout a bunch of numbers that show Kid Buu is just BS-ing this computer-ness. But I got nothin. I don't understand comps, I just use them, and hope they magically be able to run Oblivion better one day. Help, Computer Nerds! - Captain Silver - 01-05-2007 I don't think he's jealous of a 6 year old PC. Help, Computer Nerds! - Dehan - 01-05-2007 Ccleaner works great...and this is coming from a guy who had porn sites and other crap popping up every time he searched for recipes for dinner and other things .Still download S&D because that's a great one too for spyware and stuff. Help, Computer Nerds! - Vegeta Jr - 01-05-2007 Quote:Originally posted by King ColdRofl? Symantec = creator of Norton Plus, Norton sucks. Help, Computer Nerds! - Whompt - 01-05-2007 Since this topic is already up, I figure I'll ask my own question. While browsing the more adult sites online, I must have picked up some really nasty spyware. Symantec can't seem to find it, and I can't figure out what's benevolent software on my computer and what might be that fucking virus. The funny thing is, the spyware keeps directing me to an anti-spyware website that wants me to download a program. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on how to nip this thing in the bud. All I've been able to do so far is block the IPs of the sites it wants to send me to, and that's pretty much just keeping those sites from loading. It's really starting to annoy me. Help, Computer Nerds! - Vegeta Jr - 01-05-2007 Oh, and the best is to: 1.) Reinstall windows 2.) Install a good antivirus prog 3.) Install a couple antispyware progs Help, Computer Nerds! - Captain Silver - 01-05-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Kid Buu I read what you said, and half of what you said, you repeated half of what Mura said. And added some common know how. Such a defrag, that doesn't make your computer faster by the why. It orders everything up, because when I computer stores something, it randomly piles them in hepes aroudn the hardrive, that program is made so it groups them together making it nice and tidy. But, in some cases, it can make your computer slightly faster. But you can't even notice it. But carry on, this is interesting. Help, Computer Nerds! - Vegeta Jr - 01-05-2007 Mod Alert: Guys, even though we all know you look at pr0n, this is the Asylum. Not the 18+ board. So let's assume no one visits such sites here. :] Help, Computer Nerds! - Krillin - 01-05-2007 Right. And while we're at it, it'd be best if you didn't mention your personal gender at all, just in case some underage member of the site starts dreaming about you naked. Help, Computer Nerds! - Captain Silver - 01-05-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Vegeta Jr Thats the best thing to do, because you could just have some basic Adware problems. I'd recommend backing up some important stuff, and do what VJ said. Oh yeah, KB, Norton doesn't suck. It's the best program I use, I haven't had an attack, virus or whatever, yet. |
