Need help deciding. - Grandpa Gohan - 01-24-2007

Okay, Im REALLY on the fence about getting either Guild Wars or World of Warcraft. Both seem good, though the youtube's Ive seen of WoW seem much better than GW, it doesnt make it a 'better game'.

I said this before, but eh. Looking for game innovation, overall enjoyment of the game, and above all else, a game that I can play that I wouldnt get bored with because the grinding of the levels suck.

Do gotta say however: The dwarfs are really swaying me towards WoW however. So ye pleayers of the games, which be better? :o

Need help deciding. - Nori - 01-24-2007

If you want one of those games that won't get boring quickly, then go for WoW. It has updates and events, such as last christmas having a Santa quest.

If you want a game that doesn't cost money every month and is still fun (Which allows much more customization of characters then WoW BTW) then go for Guild Wars.

Out of the two I would personally go for WoW.

Guild Wars has events too. O_o They had the "Wintersday Event" with about 20 holiday themed quests and a holiday themed PvP.

Guild Wars is prettier than WoW too.

Guild Wars has no level grinding, level 20 is the max and it's the skills that matter... not your level. There are some skills you have to get from beating up bosses.

Need help deciding. - Nori - 01-24-2007

I have to give you the prettier thing. The game is beautiful.

Does Guild Wars have events? It never did when I was around. Of course I didn't play that long really.

I still think that WoW would last longer, because there is so much to do in that game. I don't have it because it takes money each month, but yeah.

To each their own. >_>

I was planning on getting both, but since Im limited for income for awhile, I was wondering which to get first really, though I'll definitely get both of them at some point.

The biggest negtive I have against Guild Wars is that it is so linear. You get a quest to go kill X guy, and you have to go all the way down some path to get to him, killing everything on the way. It's more like some sort of dungeon crawl than an MMO. Whereas in WoW most of the time you're in a big open area and you can make your own way to your destination, not be forced along a certain path. You can jump off stuff too. I'm also not too fond of the interface, seems a bit clunky at times and your character can be a bit fiddley to control. Of course, that might be due to my lack of experience. The plot is a bit boring too, but that's certainly just me. Oh, I also dislike the way the entire game is like a single instance just for your character or party, and the only place you interact with others is in the towns and stuff. Sure, it means you don't get bothered by other people, but it makes it alot more like a single player game with a multiplayer addon than an MMO. MMOs are all about interacting with everyone else on a day-to-day basis, wether you want to or not. GW seems to lack that (and world PvP).

Guild wars is a good game though, it's worth getting if you have the money and time. Looks pretty damn cool, has excellent customization for your character (although, only one race it seems). But when it comes to depth, individuality and class WoW is face superior.

As for level grinding in WoW, I've leveled both my high level characters without "grinding" so to speak, just doing every quest I can get my hands on. Though, some quests do involve grinding to finish. >.>

My experience:

I bought Guild Wars because Raditzu seemed to be playing it a lot, and I thought perhaps I'd like it too. Being that the only other MMORPG I played was Final Fantasy 11 I was a little weary. It was free to play, so why the hell not?

When I first started, I thought it was great. The quests were simple, the exp was alright. I didn't care for the controls, but it was sure pretty. Hell I even danced naked, who doesn't? I got to level 12, and was searching for more quests, and ended up going to the next "area" and not being able to go back. It really sucked, that's when I stopped playing. Not to mention the PVP I tried wasn't that great to me.

I bought World of Warcraft finally, although I thought I'd hate it. Graphics looked cartoonish, and again, not a fan of PVP. My boyfriend played too, so I started playing with him, and started getting hooked.

WoW has SO much more content than either FFXI or GW, and I don't care what anyone says. I grew addicted to that game. The quests are easy, and you can solo the game if you really wanted to. The end game is fantastic, if you get into a good guild. The PVP isn't so bad, I actually did it for 4 days straight for an item, and people who know me know I don't like PVP much. The graphics may not be "pretty" but they're still amazing.

From my experience I found that GuildWars felt like a ripped off version of WoW and D2 put together. It's really more of a PVP game than a RPG, in my opinion. If you want long term content, fun exp grind, and good optional PVP, I'd suggest WoW. If you just want to PVP, and look at pretty graphics, then GW.

I like GW...but I'll be truthful, after hearing all the hype about WoW, I'd gladly play it...but paying 24 bucks or whatever a month isn't my cup of tea...if gas were to go down a bit then maybe I'd consider it but for now...it's not sticking out that much for me.

I did play WoW and I didn't like it that much, the graphics weren't all that, especially for a game you gotta pay monthly for. GW is great though if you want to customize your character...so basically buy whichever you feel comfortable with.

If you have enough buy both, that way when you don't have the 24 bucks to pay for WoW at the end of the month you can play GW until you scrap up the cash...but that 24 bucks could be going into a piggy bank until you get another 24 bucks to buy another game you like for your xbox, playstation, gamecube or whatever the hell you got.

Need help deciding. - Raditzu - 01-24-2007

If you're going to try both, I would suggest getting Guild Wars first. You don't have to give out any credit card info (a lot of people are weird about that) and if you end up not liking it you don't have to worry about any account cancellations or charges or anything like that.

Need help deciding. - Android-18 - 01-25-2007

Where the hell do you live Turles? In Canada it costs like 15 bucks a month, but I used game cards which was 30 for 2 months, which is a little cheaper with the exchange rates and stuff.

Okay. Quick question.

I'm probably going with WoW, though I am not COMPLETELY sure yet.

I know that I want to be a physical class, and I know I want to be Gnome or Dwarf. Which is better? I know I can be a Paladin/Rogue/Warrior with dwarf, and rogue/warrior with gnome. Still D: Which works better with their jobs? Or is it just personal preferance?

Need help deciding. - Nori - 01-25-2007

I think dwarves would be better at physical fighting..

Need help deciding. - Dehan - 01-25-2007

I live in the United States, I have no earthly idea how much it costs a month to play WoW which is why I said 24-25 bucks a month, hell 15 bucks is too much for me.

I have a mentally that any game has the ability to become unpopular, the company may fail for bankruptcy making that cash you put into playing tha game worthless...that's just me.

That's why I like GW...fifty bucks for one time and you're set. No monthly fees, credit card overdrafts etc...shiznit I don't even own a creditcard, never needed one. Gots me a good ol bank card/debit card....dun want a cc though...nooo ways.

Anyway GO FOR GUILD WARS! You can be my apprentince and I will train you in the ways of the dark side...

I would like to try that star wars mmorpg. But eh...no.

personal preferance imo

Psst. Alliance suck. That and Gnomes have aids. The only decent Alliance race, imho, is Dwarves.

Tongue

Need help deciding. - Android-18 - 01-25-2007

Horde ftw, srsly.

Need help deciding. - Grandpa Gohan - 01-25-2007

Cool thanks. Nice to know that dwarves finally break free of the whole forger thing, Being able to choose a job and whatnot(Im looking at YOU Lineage 2). *ahem*

:O Ah yeah, one more thing. When I go to buy WoW, should I buy WoW or BC? >_> Does it matter? I know with some it doesnt, but eh, making sure O:
