Battle of the consoles - Zorn - 06-07-2007 Krillin's thread brought up an interesting subject to mind: Which console is the best so far? PS3 vs 360 vs Wii? Battle of the consoles - Kirano - 06-07-2007 I'll always be biased towards Sony Consoles, thus you already know which one I'm backing. Battle of the consoles - Bojack - 06-07-2007 So far the Wii is winning. 360 has enough games to show off what it can do, and it's still failing... which is sad. Halo 3 will make or break the console I believe, but I'm sure it will do fine. I don't think it will win this war though, at least not from what it's been promising. But it's still early, so who knows. The PS3 hasn't gotten to the good games yet (at all), so I don't care who says it sucks. It will start pwning when it gets some good games. Lair, Warhawk, Assassins Creed, Metal Gear Solid, fuckin KILLZONE... all still stewing in the back room. When they step forward we will see just how great the system is. (Resistance, to me, set a more promising groundwork for what the PS3 can do than what Gears of War did for the 360. GoW was the better game by far, but as far as delivering on what the 360 is going to do, it didn't accomplish as much as Resistance.) Don't count the PC out either. AT ALL. Crysis, Spore, Bioshock... Spore especially. It's the only game I'm looking forward to the way I used to look forward to games. Battle of the consoles - Kirano - 06-07-2007 I assure you, the wii's reign will fall faster than Britney and K-fed's relationship. Battle of the consoles - Vegeta - 06-07-2007 I don't consider the Wii apart of the "console war". It's not designed to compete in the hardcore market. Lots of people have a soft spot for Nintendo, but they're not trying to make a console to compete with the PS3/360. They want your sister, your parents and all the other non-gamers to buy. They're trying to create a new market for their console rather than fight in the existing one. I think they've been pretty successful so far. As far as the big boys go, I don't think Microsoft can do anything in the foreign markets. American companies don't seem to be well liked overseas. Go figure. Once the PS3 hits the pricepoint I think there won't be any question. Bluray drivers have dropped $200 in the retail market, which is a very good sign for the PS3. I think we could see a discount on the PS3 as early as Xmas 07. Battle of the consoles - Kirano - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Vegeta You hit the jackpot. Battle of the consoles - Aero - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Vegeta Yeah, Nintendo isn't trying to compete with PS3 or 360; they made that clear. They decided to choose game-play over visuals, and so far it's working. Also, the best of the Wii hasn't even showed its face. Legend of Zelda was the only real game Nintendo's released for the Wii. Remember that Metroid, Mario, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl are still waiting in the background, and they're definitely going to fucking rock ass. Now, between the 360 and the PS3, the 360 is winning. Coming out a year earlier definitely helped; so did the cost difference too. Right now 600 dollars is too much to spend on a system that really doesn't have anything in its favor. While the 360, in contrast, has a solid bundle of games to choose from. As far as sales, 360 is still at the top, due to their releasing the system a year earlier than the Wii and the PS3. The Wii is in second, and its sales are shitting on PS3's. So, you could say, Wii is winning. EDIT: But yes, the PS3 will sell a lot once more games are available and the price drops. Battle of the consoles - Raspberry - 06-07-2007 PS3 for the win, I dont like the others... Battle of the consoles - Zorn - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Bojack Sorry Jack, but I'd hav to disagree with you on that one. So far MGS has proved satisfying on PS2 and the moment i get a chance to grab MGS4, I will. Battle of the consoles - Kami - 06-07-2007 The PS3 can do an obscene amount of stuff, just check out some of the firmware upgrades. I think over the long run the PS3 will have a lot more to offer than it already does now. This isn't to say the 360 doesn't have a lot going for it, or the Wii. Just thought I'd point out that the PS3 has potential for those with the patience for it. Battle of the consoles - Aero - 06-07-2007 If 3rd party game developers would get behind Nintendo, the Wii could easily be the dominate system. The Gamecbude was a decent system. Sure, not as good as the Xbox or PS2, but if 3rd party game makers would have supported the Gamecube, it would have done much better. Battle of the consoles - Raditzu - 06-07-2007 I wholy disagree that the Wii isn't competing against the 360 and the PS3. This is a case there the market is defined by the consumers, not the producers. Whether Nintendo is trying to compete with Microsoft and Sony is pretty immaterial. Its people having debates like this one that are forcing it to compete with the "big boys." The market itself has also changed over the past few years. Pretty drastically, too. Its not a market for "hardcore" gamers anymore. Its barely a market for "gamers" at all. The video game industry as a whole has had a massive influx of "casual gamers" pretty much since the XBox came onto the scene. To say that they don't count is simply ignoring a large part of the people who are spending money on this stuff. Personally, I think a lot of the success the 360 had when it was competing against the GC and the PS2 is going to die down pretty quick. As more impressive games come out for the PS3, I think the "hardcore" gamers will gravitate more towards Sony. On the other end of the spectrum, I think there's little doubt that the Wii will have a large portion of the "casual" gamers in its pockets, leaving Microsoft to straddle the line between "hardcore" and "casual" rather awkwardly. EDIT: Apparently this took me longer to type than I thought. EDIT2: Also, for the sake of clarification: to me, the second someone says "should I buy a 360 or a Wii?" (picked those as an example) the two producers are in competition, regardless of intent on their part. Battle of the consoles - Vegeta - 06-07-2007 Nintendo has sold twice as many Wii at half the cost of the PS3. Dollar for dollar that is pretty even. Not to mention, sales figures are pretty whacky. It actually has nothing to do with sales, it's more how many units have been shipped. Battle of the consoles - Bojack - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Zorn What? You just agreed with me. >.< The price wont matter once the games are better. Right now it's 'Ps3 eh' and not 'OMFG PsTHREEEEEEE'. When it gets to that point, people won't care if it's 600 dollars. I know I won't... it may take a while, but when you want something you save your money. Battle of the consoles - Aero - 06-07-2007 Nintendo's profit is larger than Sony's, simply because Sony put a lot of crap in the PS3. The total amount of stuff that's in the PS3 costs more than the console itself--about twice as much. The Wii didn't waste as much money making their system. Also, Nintendo is gaining more money in general because they get money from developers for making games on their system. Nintendo is defeating Sony, if you want to go by money gained. Battle of the consoles - Raditzu - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Vegeta Depends on what people are basing their information on. Its annoying how people can find total valid numbers that have nothing to do with what they're trying to prove. ie. shipping vs sales figures, or domestic sales vs international shipping figures. Battle of the consoles - Raditzu - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Gokua o.0 You actually have sources for that? Battle of the consoles - Bojack - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Raditzu What sources? Sony already explained how much they would lose on the Ps3 in the first few years. Battle of the consoles - Bojack - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Bulma Bulma, that analogy really sucked. <3 Battle of the consoles - Aero - 06-07-2007 Quote:Originally posted by Raditzu Gathered facts from various television programs. Sony expected to take a hit, but they're not worried because they have other revenues to make money. |
