If I am mad, it is mercy! - Tobias - 03-10-2008 May the gods pity the man who in his callousness can remain sane to the hideous end! Now that I am done quoting lovecraft, let us speak of our mental oddities. Nothing necessarily medically debilitating, just those quirks or annoyances we do without sound logic. I was talking to Spence when I realized this one, I have to play each character in a game, such as a fighting game or Team Fortress 2, almost the same amount of time. TF2 annoys me in particular because my nephew plays on my account and effs things up. Also When I go to sleep I have to close all doors and, if possible, lock them. Especially the closet. Its not a fear either. I just HAVE to do it. Also I constantly fidget or play around with something. Right now my foot is jiggling like mad. If I have something in my pocket that snaps open and close I need to fiddle with that until its content inevitably spill or the lid breaks. Sometimes I must resort to ear tugging and constantly readjusting my glasses. also I... well Ill take a break for now. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Bojack - 03-10-2008 I didn't know Retane became a mod. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Tobias - 03-10-2008 He's not? If I am mad, it is mercy! - Bojack - 03-10-2008 Huh? If I am mad, it is mercy! - Orion - 03-10-2008 I have a problem of fidgeting. When I'm doing something, anything, I have excess thoughts/energy that have to be dealt with. Sometimes music can cure that, but other times I end up clicking a pen or playing with my moustache. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Spencinator - 03-10-2008 Bojack Wrote:Huh? O_O >_> *sigh* Tobias > Tien > Garlic Jr. = Tim. He's not Retane by any means. xD Anyway, like Tim, I have my own quirks. I have to have my fan on all the time, no matter what season. I also keep my door shut. If it's open, I get paranoid and I lose this sense of security I didn't know I had. Also, I usually end up chewing on SOMETHING when I'm occupying myself with other things. Be it food, bottle caps, tabs from pop cans, etc. It doesn't matter. Oh, and there are times when I'll be doing something, and then another thing pops into my head that I just have to do right then and there. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Saz - 03-10-2008 Um, quirks, quirks. Well when I'm sitting down I'll tap my right foot repeatedly, I literally can't sit still for more than a few minutes before I start tapping. Oh and I tear the skin off my lips, I know it's gross, but I can't help it. I'll just be sitting there watching tv, and suddenly I'll notice I've peeled off a large chunk of skin from my lips. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Raditzu - 03-11-2008 1) I definitely have twitches. Mostly in the form of a bouncing leg. 2) Someone mentioned their fan. I have mine on next to my bed. It drives me insane if I try to sleep without it. Its the perfect white noise. 3) I'm a horrible procrastinator, which isn't anything really new, but its compounded by two other things. The first being a tendency to do things in large bursts of creativity and enthusiasm. The second thing is that I have a complete and total understanding of the first. I don't bother with something because I know, at some point, I'll have this magically epiphany and get it done in three or four straight hours of work, so why waste all the time in-between. Its not conducive behavior to a healthy career in higher-education, by the way. 4) I compulsively tell non-malicious lies. Mostly for my own amusement. Its never anything bad, but woe is he who bothers ask me what time it is. 5) I'm amazingly apathetic. Like... I don't even know how to describe it. Its definitely not healthy, but at the moment there's not much I can do about it. (see number 3) 6) Laughing at my own jokes. This is a personal favorite. I tell jokes I think are funny. I don't care if anyone else enjoys them or not. 7) I often dance while I walk. Not anything spectacular, but maybe a little slide here, or a snazzy spin there. 8) I've developed this weird kind of ADD. I always need to be doing more than one thing. I don't even watch movies any more, and this is probably why I rarely watch TV. Why just sit there watching a movie when I could be listening to music, with the TV on behind me while I'm at my computer surfing the net or playing a game. This one's actually starting to annoy me, since I have a stack of DVDs I bought sitting on my TV not being watched. 9) I used to only be able to get out of bed if the time were a palindrome. So if I set my alarm clock for 8:30, for example, I wouldn't move until 8:38. I'm better about it now, but it stills creeps up on me from time to time. I saw this thread a while ago and have been thinking about it. Its been a fun little introspective exercise. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Tobias - 03-11-2008 Raditzu Wrote:5) I'm amazingly apathetic. This. Also when I think of something particularly embarassing or distasteful I punch my self. Not pussy punches either, punches I regret afterwards. Additionally I'm like a goddamn house elf. I don't step on cracks if at all possible, and half the time I don't realize I'm avoiding them, like breathing. Further more I eat my food in groups. All the macaroni needs to be eaten first then the green beans then the hamburgers, ect. ect. It used to be in clockwise order but I don't really even notice what order anymore. This extends similarly into colors of candy like skittles and M&Ms. I've run out of synonyms for 'also'. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Spencinator - 03-11-2008 Some of you mentioned being apathetic; I'm a bit of the opposite. When I'm reading/watching something, I'll sometimes get attached to the character(s). If something bad happens to said character(s), I might end up get a little weepy-eyed. Hell, sometimes I'll full-blown cry. So I guess you could say I am a bit empathetic to certain things. EDIT: Raditzu Wrote:8 ) I've developed this weird kind of ADD. I have so many games I haven't even touched because of this problem. =x If I am mad, it is mercy! - Orion - 03-11-2008 Depending on the game, I need to have a movie going on in the background. Usually WoW is the biggest cause for this, as grinding = teh fheg. But then when I play games that have storyline, then TV breaks the mood and my concentratoin. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Tobias - 03-12-2008 I usually put a podcast on in the background while I play rome total war, and there is rarely a moment when I don't have an audio book on my psp for me to listen to at all times when reading and/or vidya games aren't viable. I can do one thing at a time but I rarely do. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Raditzu - 03-12-2008 Tobias Wrote:Further more I eat my food in groups. I totally forgot about that one. I'm guilty of it as well. It's really annoying when you go to a restaurant and get, say, a burger and some fries. Then eat all the fries and not want to finish the burger cause you're full. If I am mad, it is mercy! - Blind Man - 03-13-2008 Whenever I walk on a tiled floor, I have to walk on the tiles so that my feet land on the spots in such a way that a knight piece in chess would move. So say I have my right foot down, my left foot then has to land on the tile two tiles forward and one to the left, or one forward and two to the left. If my stride is too big or small for the tiles, I just walk normally and follow the tiles with my eyes in the order that I would step on them if I had the correctly-sized stride length. |
