Batman comics - Spencinator - 08-13-2008
In lieu of reading crappy fanfiction all morning, I decided to read Batman comics instead. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an avid fan of Batman, but I do like to occasionally immerse myself into his gritty world. So I thought I'd start off by reading The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. I'd heard it was good, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm probably only halfway through the first issue, but I do like what I see so far.
Anyway, I just thought I'd ask you guys about your favorite Batman comics and the reasoning behind why they're your favorite.

Knight Fall: It's long, three pretty large graphic novels long, but it's EPIC! This is the 90's tale of Batman(Bruce Wayne) almost mentally unraveling after some brutal nights on the job. Then of course comes Bane, super awesome steroid guzzling monster, who breaks Batman's back paralysing him and forcing him to retire and pass on the the mask and mantel. A great read.
Hush: Just look at this cover( http://johncarloang.com/web3/Activity1/Images/hush1.jpg ). Yeah, try to tell me that a book with THAT cool of art work isn't going to be awesome. Well anyway this book is probably the most famous and critically acclaimed Batman comic series of the new millennium. You can't go wrong here.

I too am not a big fan, but my favorite is Killing Joke. Now, It may not be because its actually better than some others, but it was the first 'mature' comic book I read. Reading late seventies spider man comics was all fine and good up until my dad let me read that bugger at ten. It hit me pretty hard. The joker was just some wacky prankster to me up until then, not the hyperinsane madman with class I associate him with these days. In fact it was the first real disturbing act of villainy I remember in any format. Basically it is my favorite single issue comic book because it changed my world, though it is a bit tame nowadays.
I'll also recomend The Long Halloween. Seriously, check that shit out.

Never really read any Batman (at least not classics), so all I can do is vouch for Frank Miller. Great writer, and many say Dark Knight Returns was one of his best works.
