I was wondering if we can use characters from elsewhere rather then DBZ ones or made-up ones. I was thinking of using a pair in my Kaioken training.

From another anime no, as far as I have seen.

...Not even as an NPC? Not even arguing, I'm actually curious now. =\

I was more thinking from a game and/or movie.

I really don't want to see someone RPing like...Vash coming in and acting like a retard with them. I thought this was DBZ? There are no 'portals' or anything to logically say why Vash, or Batman, or even Neo would be here.

Yes I know Bugs Bunny and a few other NPCs were made, but I think that was by staff as a joke.

I just don't like the idea of it.

Yeah, you're right. Jackie, you're welcome to make somebody in someone's likeness, I suppose, but what 18 says makes sense. I doubt you would abuse the ability, but I could see a lot of retarded stuff happening if that were possible.

Sorry, 18, I've been a bit slow today.

As a learned lesson from previous RPG's, introducing non-dbz characters into the game will take away the essential authenticity of the whole basis of the game. There are other characters lesser known (like my own) that don't have much of a background, and you can just make it up as you go. I think I read it somewhere (was it B's guide to roleplaying in the joining section?) I quote:

Quote:B. Characters
Characters are so tractable it?s scary. As with plot, your options are limitless. One of the most common misconceptions is that your character is bound by their identity as depicted in the series. They?re not. You can do anything you want to do. I?ve seen great development of characters that were either never fully fleshed out or cast in stone by the show. In example, Captain Ginyu was the innovator of the Ginyu Force, a soulless body-snatching mercenary who conquered planets. If you portray him in the RPG, you could make him have been born as a mutant Quaker on Earth that ate lard to survive and worked as a janitor, who has never heard of the ?almighty Furiza? and never even met Burter, Jeice, Guldo, or Recoome. You don?t have to pick up where Akira left off; forge your own creation. Aside from that note, what make characters are their identifiable quirks. Quirks are things a character is known for, such as stupidity, bravery, friendliness, essentially any kind of dominant personality trait. Quirks must be real and relatable. Characters need to be real. They have so many different dimensions and emotions that it is so debilitating if they are single-minded and poorly defined. Give them a past. Develop them slowly over time. Cultivate relationships. Give them struggles. Something that is far too garden variety is a warrior who wants to amass a bunch of power and ?pwn everyone?s ass,? or someone with a hero complex and boldly runs around fending off those damned evildoers. There?s nothing wrong with that (it?s DBZ, after all), but there?s only so much you can accomplish with extreme ends of the scale. Instead of good and evil, go for the gray. Instill a little humanity and imperfection. Endow them with a mixed array of emotions and moral fibers. A reader should always be aware of how a character is realistically feeling. It helps them relate on a personal level, making your work more interesting to read. Deeply integrated personal flaws always defined Greek tragic heroes, for instance, and how they overcame those detriments?if they didn?t lead to a dramatic demise. A good writer can manipulate their readers into feeling whatever they want them to. If you want someone to feel sad, you spin a somber, morose tale of tragedy. Likewise, to make them feel happy, you plod along on a trail of sunshine and rainbows.

I know I'm not staff, but it was marked anybody...I just remembered that lil peice of info from when I joined ^_^

No.

Characters from elsewhere - Tamsin - 01-19-2006

Darn, and I had my whole idea based upon it.... Sad

But I understand. Rules are rules.

Also, 18, I wasnt thinking anywhere near those lines. I was thinking of more humorous characters.

I would just like to remind Rad and 18 that Piccolo used "Neo" from the matrix in his King Kai training, how would this be any different?

Characters from elsewhere - Android-18 - 01-19-2006

I didn't know. Whoever approved it gets a disapprovng look from me. From now I I know I'm not allowing such a thing in this RPG, and I'm sorry if anyone disagrees with me. If people want to RP crossover RPGs they can join a different RPG.

That was my bad, I didn't see too big a problem with a seasoned member using it, I'll try to be more careful next time.

Sorry guys...didn't realize that it was a no no...won't do it again.

And HF-17, sorry for getting you glared at.

I created (and killed) an NPC in my first personal saga that acted and looked exactly like Blade (played by Wesley Snipes) from the movie and comic book series. He even had a compatriot named Howler (see, Whistler) that Cell killed off. Those two were the first "real" fight he'd had on earth.

If you wanted to do something like that, maybe introduce an NPC that's exactly like the character but doesn't use the same name, and a different history behind them. The staff, if they ever caught on to that, never had an ill word to say about what I'd done. It was almost obvious, but I did it in a creative way.

Allright, ill do that....allthough one of the characters I want to use will be difficult to substitute. But hey. Staff is staff and rules are rules. You gotta respect that.

Thanks for all your help.
