Gun Specialization
#1
If a character were to specialize in ranged weaponry and various techniques using them, would that have a Specialization Ability of some sort? The closest I'm guessing would be MAS, and yet the stat that would tie to it would seem to be Focus, which is the "Ki stat", in a matter of speaking.

EDIT: Thinking, I'd probably say Agility is the best stat for gun use...

I'd probably suggest mostly Agility, with some decent Focus.

MAS could probably be played as your character having a keen eye for where to shoot and when. They'd use MAS to predict movements to know where to shoot, or something like that.

You could probably build techs like 'Deadeye' (for lack of a better name) off of something like MAS. Truer aim, etc.

I think adding a "Weapon Specialization" ability would be really cool.

A bit late, for some people, I'm afraid.

So? It doesn't mean we can't still add it. They'll just have to go DB hunting.

Why couldn't it be a technique, like ki control? And requiring ki control.

I haven't really considered the idea of Gun Specialisation, so I don't really have an opinion on it, but don't let it being a latecomer stop you. Just give anyone who's already created their character the option of switching out one of their abilities for Gun Specialisation, when (and if) it's introduced. Doesn't mean a free respec, doesn't screw you over if you want the new ability.

Well, idk, is that really necessary? Someone could just get Ki Specialization, a high Focus stat, and roleplay it as having a formidable arsenal of Ki weapons. Like what Waff was trying to do.

Do guns/weapons need a specific Ability? I see it as something your character can just be good at without needing statistical representation.

For example, Kaden is pretty smart. There's nothing in his stats, or Techniques, or anything that says he's really smart, that's just how I play him.

If you want your character to be gun-oriented (really good with a gun, less useful without one) then just write it like that.

Rod: currently there's only one gun in the shop and it shoots ki.

Since, y'know, bullets would quickly become useless as characters gain power, and everything.

I was thinking it should be a tech, because you can learn how to be good at weapons, while stuff like Dark Ki and Regeneration would be things you are "born" with.

Basically, there should be a technique that keep weapons from being negligible. Or maybe I'm just thinking of the old system, where unless you had Metal Binding, any weapon your character used was pretty much useless against other players. EDIT: If that's no longer the case, then cool.

My character has a lot of Strength, meaning he can handle the recoil of an RPG much better than someone who's weaker than he is. Yeah, I can roleplay the hell out of that, but if I make it a character staple (which I probably won't, I just think this should be ironed out), and I have to ignore it when I'm interacting with other characters, what's the point?

Will XRS be just that, a weapon to compete with ki (although, obviously, massively inferior to someone who has it as a natural ability), or will it be a magnifier of someone's Focus stat, like Sync weapons?

I'm not trying to be a jerkoff, this is just one of the things that always seemed to get buried in the Dev forum. I know it's late but, it's not too late to at least add something like a technique that could account for these concerns.

I'm not entirely sure, since we're actually talking about the ki rifle right now, but it will definitely be a viable alternative to shooting ki from your hands.

A gun user will be just as capable as a weapons user or martial artist or whatever.

That's what I'm saying, as an alternative for people who want to be something other than really good at beating people's faces in or shooting energy. And I'd be fine with making it a tech instead of an ability, since wielding a weapon can be considered more of something that is "learned" versus "born with," or like Rosie suggested and make it a free swap or something.

It would go great with something like Metal Binding or a modular or a sync weapon, and give weapons a valid place in the IC world.
