Short Bio: Melancholy came from a small colony of fairies that met a disastrous end at the hands of civilization's expansion. Since then she has harbored a deep and murderous vengeance and manipulates the "City-Dwellers" among others into enacting it for her.

General Description: Melancholy rises no higher than 4 1/2 inches tall with a wing span of 12 inches. She has an extremely slender build, slanted eyes, and pointy ears. Her pale complexion is contrasted by a pair of dark violet butterfly wings.

Starting Abilities: Healing, Stealth

Trait: Defiant

Role-play Sample:

A tiny pearl of clean water leaked down the crease of the small leaf and into the waiting pouch below. The pouch was quite swollen now, having been filling with droplets all morning. A small hand, not even a tenth the size of the leaf, snatched the bag from its nook and quickly tied it shut. The hand's owner, a slender four and a half inch tall fairy, latched the sack to her belt and quickly sped off across the dirt. Her wings could have easily carried her the distance in a much shorter time but the land's once fertile forest had become barren and without the cover of leaf, one of the carrion birds would make short work of her.

Even by foot, the trip was not long. A hollowed out turtle shell camoflauged amongst carefully placed rocks etched out the nearest vestige of safety for miles. With practiced speed she climbed through one of the shell's entrance, a former opening for the late turtle's right foreleg. Inside the shell, on a bed of dried weeds, lay another fairy. This one's thinness tended towards starvation. Her skin was drawn back to the bones. Her hair has begun to fall out and dark circles had grown around her eyes. Despite this, her features were unmistakeably similar to the other.

Turning her sick straining eyes to the entrance she whispered, "Melancholy..." Her words were cut of by an intense shivering that ran through her entire frail form.

"Mom! Don't try to speak. I brought some water," Melancholy dove beside her mother and attempted to lift the sack to her sick matron's mouth.

The ill fairy shoved her daughter's gift away. "You feed me Poison!" she shouted deliriously, her arms flailing and eyes wild. "The whole stream. Poison!"

"No mom!" Melancholy protested, "Its not from the stream. I collected it from the dew."

Melancholy watched as the stranger's eyes became her mother's again. Her soft, warm, loving gaze bathed the fairy with hope. "Such a bright girl," her mother whispered, "You keep the water."

"NO!" Melancholy protested, tears begining to form in her eyes, "I'm fine mom. You need this to get better."

Her mother sighed with a sad look of acceptance, "I'm not going to get better Melany."

"Don't say that," Melancholy sobbed.

"Listen to me." Her mother pleaded as another shudder ran through her body, "You need to leave this place. Its no longer safe for our kind. Search the forests for our cousins. Start a new life far from the City-Dwellers."

"I'm not going to leave you!" Melancholy argued.

"I know, Melany... but I have to leave. I can feel the Gatekeeper calling," a final shudder ran through her mother and then the sick fairy lay still. Melancholy held her mother's hand tightly, feeling the last of the warmth of her mother's body ebb out. Melancholy tears dripped to the ground until she collapsed asleep.
