#2 didn't have to be done by programming, even it were prohibitively difficult to implement (which it really is not). At worst it requires some dude to update a list of ranks every 3 months. It had several volunteers. #1 is why am i explaining what i just explained in my last post fuck this going back to silently banging my head against the wall when i read this thread

Alright. I had half a mind to post links but out of respect for the forum rules I refrained. Since the creation of this thread I've been looking over various sites. Reading suggestion, tips and overall observing their rate of growth and success. I know it's easier said than done and far easier to blame than take responsibility but the bottom line is. There are sites right now continuing to run or just beginning that since the time of this threads creation have been able to accumulate members in the double digits and create numerous threads with multiple replies. Sites where people openly seek partners to interact with and Staff replies and updates as easily and almost as fast as Meer was able to change my characters ability from water to ice.
This is not because their sites are prettier, or their coding is superior because beleive you me. I want to learn how to hack just to shut half of them down. Not because of their success but for the simple fact that chat boxes stretched the page, the content was shitty and over complicated or people went through the trouble of coloring text and using different fonts and styles for other peoples characters just because they did it in their posts before.
They are seeing success because these members, staff or not are positively contributing. Both ic and ooc. I'm not saying post once a day, but if one of you posted tuesday, the third guy wednesday and some other guy friday, that along with mirena and kathreda or w/e and i posted with shun and mza, that's more active than we've been in a while. Thats a whole weeks worth and that's only 7 characters putting down a post a day. With all the registered accounts here imagine what we could do if we got more.
There are claims staff isnt slacking, theyre just relaxed because theres no work but then the opposing side argues well updates don't get done. Remember back when more things needed to get updated? When to edit your account profile, format or add a move you needed an update? Or even when members had to post a link to show you were active to get tp? Remember how things still managed to flow? How despite the claims and accusations and all the drama of losing contact with a host screenshots were still taken of roster pages and the database was transferred so that people still had their join dates post counts and actual post history linkage.
For fire to form there needs to be friction and oxygen. For rivers to flow a source and a current.
We can bring chubbs back to life and even exceed what we onced accomplished. It was all fine and dandy when things were in motion. People were excited, then one thing led to another and I feel like we forgot why we even joined in the first place. The concept hasn't changed, some of your characters haven't. And if they have it was through storylines you developed over time. choices you made.
Let's stop linking back to look at the failures and use that ability instead to remember how we got this far. The host is reliable and our knowledge of the worlds both real and fantasy continue to expand. Let's make chubbs fun again. Sure it's not perfect but it never was. Why let that stop us now?
Edit: What ever happened to this? There were some pretty solid ideas here. http://www.cdbzrpg.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=118

It'd be impossible to pull one off with the current member base.

8-10 is a bit optimistic, and isn't enough.

What if an approach similar to another abyss is tried? Conquest I beleive was the name although i could be wrong becasue i often am. Members participate, move one spot a day on a grid and this could result in anything from new weapons, confrontation, collar explosions or nothing at all. Npcs could be included to increase the number of IC participants.
We could just add a twist. Every movement doesn't just bring you to another spot in land but another room in a quadratic cube, I think it was called. A cube that doesn't transport you from room to room only but holds potential to alter dimensions and/or time. The movies name was cube, I only saw the sequel though...idk. Just an idea.
Edit: For example one room is like ours by law of physics, then you climb through the path to enter a room where you are weightless, or the center of gravity has shifted. Or the next room you try to enter you come across a corpse that with some investigation bears striking resemblance to you. Just dead obviously, apparently because you were stabbed so this causes your character to get paranoid, not trust people with knives or whatever. Idk if I explained it good enough.

I can't really say that another Dante's Abyss would interest me. But then I'm not really a fan of competition sagas in general (probably because they're like 80% of sagas that get run).

Okay. What if Capsule Corp, using their advanced sciences and brilliant inventions created a device whose functionality shared characteristic with the animus machine of the assassins creed franchise. Members could, volunteer, be kidnapped or just fall under the effects due to a demo gone haywire, allowing members to take the reigns of one of other characters for a breif time. These could be old customs, customs ancestors or pre-reset even possibly. Bringing them into a world where true power lies in the mind and players must solve riddles and overcome their deepest fears if they ever hope to return to the material world.
Another approach could be the negative effects of the demo scenario causing a body change effect to participating members. Then as they wake in bodys other then their own they come to find the world they know and love overcome by automated sentries who are encasing portions of the earth within energy fields, essentially sampling the life and civilization with the ultimate goal being to catalog the planet, collect specimens and destroy any remaining signs of life. The participants will not only have to respond to the threat but adapt to the temporarily new found abilities if they ever hope to have a fighting chance.

In response to recent events aliens have been prohibited from access in certain areas, both in the sense of planetary and territorial boundaries. A segregation-like trend is beginning to take effect.
Influential political figures are campaigning to enforce a government mandated registration process that records a person's birth place, race and bloodline, providing provinces ultimately with a number and ID system that will prevent immigrants to "pass through" rob banks, pillage farms and/or commit heinous terrorist acts such as but not limited to destroying entire cities(*cough-murmur*saiyans).
This system will record who visits where and why they have done so that in the case of an event they can lock down the city and know who was there. Needless to say, anthropomorphic beings regardless of how alien they are to us are pretty common in the Dragon Ball universe but blue skinned, slug resembling, energy shooting aliens arent so lucky. The group is small but growing steadily and they have one request. "Keep the aliens away from our babies."
While military efforts are focused on beefing up security the guys behind the scenes are already planning ways to abuse the new system. Developing schemes to create new taxes, seize properties for business endeavors and worst of all strip people of their rights. The people don't know any better but you do. Will you fight for them even though they fight with you?

I have no idea, really. My urge to write for anything other than school related junk is pretty nil, and has been for a while since canons were removed. That was pretty much when my passion started its death march, and who knows if I'll ever get it back, but I'm tired of bitching about it. Kazuya might be a dead thing, but Kayne might have something eventually. Right now, time is just not abundant for me.
Man alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear no other creature endures.
A fear of time running out.
